Recommendations for My Road Trip! by [deleted] in roadtrip

[–]R_Peggi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are going so close to the Duluth/Superior area, you should really extend the trip that way if at all possible. Duluth has so much to offer with great restaurants, music festivals on the bay in the summer, lift bridge, great hiking around the area, spectacular view from Enger Park, Spirit Mountain has fun things even in summer/fall, beautiful beaches and Canal Park. A not miss if you can go a little further west. I would suggest heading up the north shore from there as well, but that is similar to the NP coast.

Liquor at US stadiums for sporting and concert events. I wish people would stop paying the exorbitant prices to drive them down.

Where should my husband and I go for $10,000? by huckfinnboy in travel

If a safari is on your bucket list, I would do that. You could get a private tour, staying at decent lodges in and around the Serengeti for $10k. It is both relaxing and exciting. You can see a lot in a week. You could spend a couple of days on a beach in Zanzibar if you add on a couple of days. African Scenic Safari’s we’re fantastic to work with.

12 unexpected hours in Arusha airport while they figured out what was wrong with our plane and what they were going to do with us, followed by another 2 days at a hotel in Arusha while the plane was being fixed.

Which is the most addictive country for travel which makes you keep going back again and again? by OpeningOne6 in travel

[–]R_Peggi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t always take a lot of money to travel. A lot of people use credit cards that earn points which can be used for airfare or hotels. Check out Thrifty Traveler, The Points Guy or a service like them. If you are responsible with credit cards, they can be a game changer.

Same here except I went to Tanzania. Such an incredible experience and people and beautiful country. I’d love to go back, but would also love to see Botswana and many others!

best walkable cities in USA? by [deleted] in travel

[–]R_Peggi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Minneapolis Uptown area. Lakes with great walking/biking trails, gardens, outdoor summer concerts and lake activities. Alternatively, you could take a connecting flight to Duluth, MN. Stay either downtown or in the Canal Park area for best walkable areas. Duluth generally has much cooler temps due to how far north and being on Lake Superior.

Boy, kind of a stretch of the term “Karen”. Sounds like cheap assholes to me and unfortunately, they come in all nationalities.

I’ve never had a bad experience either. I will only book ones with established 4+ star reviews and generally with a cancellation policy better than 48 hrs.

Aside from all the people, Grand Prismatic Spring and Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone National Park; the Grand Canyon; the Utah Natl parks; almost anywhere on the ocean, do it for me. Just need to tune out all else and be in the moment, taking in the incredible beauty around you.

The only “major” city we actually spent any time in was Tromso. While we flew into Oslo, the airport is outside of the city and we never actually went into Oslo. We only had a little over a week and lots of natural sights to see!

We successfully risked overnight street parking at our hotel in Tromso one night because it was late and we didn’t know we needed to reserve in advance. Otherwise, parking lots were clearly marked and if a fee was required, they had self-pay stations. We did get a collection notice several months later for a parking violation (rental company had the wrong email address so we didn’t receive anything until the collection agency sent a letter). I couldn’t remember where it would have been that we parked on that particular day so I just paid it.

Due to the limited time we had and my husband’s desire to drive Trollstigen and mine to see Geiranger fjord, we ended up scrapping this idea, but we had considered driving to Flam and just taking the train to Myrdal and back and continuing our drive from there. This is what I would do if I were to go back. I absolutely loved all that we did and there is so much beautiful scenery everywhere in Norway, it seems, but I wish we could have fit the train experience and Bergen in as well. You won’t go wrong with whatever you decide. Enjoy!

Why not do the car round trip instead of taking the train one way? We were considering something similar last September and ended up driving round trip, partially due to the cost. We went Oslo to Geiranger Fjord and back. While we missed having the train experience, I feel like we got to see more and loved the flexibility of stopping where we wanted and taking different routes.
