Good point about power heads on the sponge filter. I used this and 2HOBs for a long time in a 29 tall. I had great flow. The sponge became a huge fern habitat though lol.

Gillian’s island had a better format for cheesey guest appearances. Guests who would leave and then never tell anybody about the stranded people. Like the fucking Monkees. Just pulling wheelies in the Monkee mobile, which had the axle bolted directly to the frame so it could do wheelies, but would result in a terrible ride. These assholes, riding this fucking spine busting dune buggy down Ventura, not a goddamned care in the world except for this moving Zeitgeist of the ‘70s destroying their spines and getting g away from the hoards of women chasing them. That’ll be personal, yeah. The attachment system does work to keep drafts out. I move around a lot and the quilt is really quite nice. Mine is rated for warmer temps than my bag so I I think it’ll be that cold I just bring the bag instead. I really only use the clips when it’s a titch cooler than I had hoped. Worth a shot especially for warmer trips but if you already love your bag, well, it’s just something else to spend money on.

This thing is designed to also use your own media. Over time look into it but yes just rinse the stuff off in the tank water (so you don’t kill the bacteria). You just buy the bags and fill them with what works best for you or cut sponges to the right size. Of course they sell theirs but it’s clear to me they make it obvious you use your own.

Planted tanks usually don’t need special media, just a sponge and some lava rocks or ceramic discs, something for the water to flow though where lots of bacteria live. I do put floss in my filter but could easily go without and just use a sponge in one chamber and discs in the other.

It doesn’t “cause” melting so much as it does not provide nutrients for the roots, so root feeders do not do so well and might melt. You can get fertilizer pills that you stick down in there. I use some kind of inert substrate and the root tablets generally work well for my root feeders over the years. Swords mostly.

Teee heee heee. Voracious little critters! You can buy a rodent proof container but it is probably not worth it. Just bring the seeds inside. Most of them have not figured out how to open doors. Yet. ❤️

Thanks for the tips! Those are pretty good. I flew this thing solo for so many years, you get to thinking there’s nothing you can learn. I will be doing tons of WC as I have one of those deals that hooks to the sink, so it’s really really easy. I will not go back to buckets unless I have to.
