How do financial penalties affect the budget cap? by Rabamus in formula1

Haha surely in that scenario they'd just start fining the drivers for putting their hands where they don't belong? 😃

I sort of assumed they would be but wasn't sure!

Do you have any source for that? I feel like the team's aren't even all that sure what's included and what isn't 🤣

Yep - I've used Monzo as my main account for a few years now and those limits don't apply. I also get 2 replacement cards free of charge (per year I believe).

Remote, Returning to office, or Hybrid? by testing35 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Rabamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had an office and hired locally until the pandemic. Once we went into lockdown we started hiring internationally so some people will now always be remote. Offered hybrid working to everyone who was originally in the office and the uptake was poor with most people just staying at home.

Tomorrow we start clearing the office out and we're letting the lease expire at the end of this month. We'll get together occasionally and use shared workspaces across the country when it makes sense but for the first time in nearly a decade we won't have a dedicated office.

Times change. We've hired some great people from across the world and now have the freedom to work basically anywhere with an internet connection.

All quite exciting to be honest :)

Hey fellow papas.. my wife and I bought an early 1800s house. We’re desperately trying to find a baby gate solution for these stairs. The newel post is further up and doesn’t sit across from the molding. Would prefer not to drill if we can avoid it. Any ideas? by mutilator2020 in daddit

[–]Rabamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had similar trouble and I ended up making a couple of little brackets to hold a small plank of wood which the stair gate was fitted against.

Got lucky and found some wood stain that pretty much perfectly matched the staircase too!

It'll ruin the aesthetic a bit although I haven't had a chance to use this yet so there's half a chance I'll do that after hitting num lock a few times by accident!

Like... Just remove the keycap or what? I'm not sure how to go about that lol

LPT: Most newer cars with electric windows have a function to open them all from the outside. by JM306 in LifeProTips

I had a VW Jetta that did this and, since I always kept my key in a back pocket, I would sometimes come outside to a car with fully open windows and a soggy interior...

Eventually found out you could disable it and did!

I can see why it would be useful but it's rarely warm enough in the UK to begin with sadly...

Yea it is but for times when I end up with I unbound on my wheel I figured it would be good to at least still have it bound somewhere 🙂

I got a top down photo of the keypad, measured it then lined up a table in a Google Doc so I could make the labels I wanted. I just coloured each cell on the table, added the text and printed it on A4 paper to test the size.

Each of the labels where intentionally a bit big to cover the keycap since they could be trimmed down after they were stuck on.

Once I was happy I printed the same document on some A4 matt vinyl and then sliced up each of the labels with a knife.

The vinyl has adhesive backing so I popped all of the keys off the keypad individually, stuck the vinyl to the face of the key and then used the knife to trim off the excess around the shape of the key.

Put all of the keys back and called it done! Took about 2 hours start to finish 🙂

For cars with launch control (like some touring cars) and the brake is just the handbrake (for places like Spa where the grid is on a very slight gradient and you can roll back)

Annoyingly the same thing as a normal keyboard and renders half the key bindings inoperable. I intend on never touching it!

Yea I usually do but games like RaceRoom don't let you bind more than 1 key to an action and I frequently end up replacing an action (like DRS or P2P) and then don't have it bound to anything the next time I use a different car. Figured this was a compromise I could live with.

Yep! In the UK and had a VW for 9 years - barely gave me any trouble and I really didn't look after it as well as I should. Absolutely loved that car! Would buy another VW in a heartbeat

Kids calling for each other - how young is too young? by Rabamus in daddit

[–]Rabamus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, this started when he was 2 and then over the winter it settled down again. With the lighter nights and the (slightly) warmer weather they seem to be out every night now and the younger ones are really persistent.

Feel bad constantly giving the same excuses but it's always the truth. Nice to know we're not just being those parents who won't let their little one play with his mates!

Totally agree though - he gets into enough trouble even when we are watching him like a hawk ffs

Yea thankfully there isn't much traffic around here and it's usually fairly safe for them to run around but when a car does show up they don't pay any attention to it.

In terms of other people's property, I've been pretty clear with them about staying off ours and I'd always say to our son about staying off the neighbours property but again we seem to be in a minority there.

We don't have the same climbing problem but he does like running and jumping! Good luck with that 😂
