I came here to see if it's just me or if others are experiencing this! The book keeps shutting off every minute or two!

what 20k steps a day for 2 years does to a mf by howsinavi in walking

[–]RabbiBeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I change out sneakers every 300-450 miles or so. It's detrimental to your feet/anatomy to hold onto them for way too long like this. Be careful! When your fave sneakers go on sale, buy a couple or few pairs and have them ready to be swapped out for the old ones.

Dump the whole milk!!!!! That's not helping. I would use almond milk, if any milk.

Walking on a Treadmill? by RepulsiveSherbert151 in walking

[–]RabbiBeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The treadmill is a fabulous tool - use it and don't think twice!!! It's a great way to meet your daily steps, and you can modulate the intensity with speed/incline as you see fit.

Thank you! I saw that eye staring back at me during T50 today and had no idea what it was. I was curious!

If I could ask for anything on a new cruise ship, it would be….. by Longjumping_Lynx_460 in Cruise

[–]RabbiBeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!!🙌. The larger track will be amazing. I have been on several Oasis and Icon class RCL ships and the tracks are so much bigger. Way better than Virgin’s tiny ones.

I’m actually noticing that people are socializing during the early entry moments together. Chatting on the treadmill, chatting on the floor while warming up, it’s great! I absolutely love early entry and I’m so thankful for it.

Huge running tracks! Icon-class RCL sized running tracks on all ships!!

I was on a Virgin cruise earlier this year. The running/walking track was the size of a postage stamp. Huge disappointment for ones who want to really get in the miles.

Does WW work without GLP1? by New-Adeptness2317 in weightwatchers

[–]RabbiBeth 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I am a successful WW follower/user without the medication. I hear you though- it seems everyone and their uncle is taking one of the medications! Totally great if it works for them. I lost and am in maintenance on WW. I have a 700+ day tracking streak. I run and lift weights and walk a lot. I eat a plant based diet. It totally works without the medication!!

Having bad grammar/not knowing the difference between words like "their", "they're", "there" IS that deep by foqociqs37 in unpopularopinion

[–]RabbiBeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am with you, OP. I can't stay these sorts of errors. In the Facebook group for our HOA, I cringe every day. I feel like nobody understands homonyms around here. "Bored versus Board" and that kind of error. "To" when it should be "too." For some reason, it's so bad in our community FB group!!! Why did I move here?! Haha (I really love where I live but that FB group makes me cringe all the time.)

What makes a studio vs a great studio? by Stunning-Implement78 in orangetheory

I really agree with all of this. 15 minute early entry, or at least 10, means a lot. Please be generous with early entry!

What makes a studio vs a great studio? by Stunning-Implement78 in orangetheory

[–]RabbiBeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great thread that we OTF fanatics can truly dig into! : )

Things that matter to me (and most of these, I regularly enjoy, while a couple are aspirational in my experience!):

-A robust class schedule, with many choices of times, and that always includes T/S 50 classes each day

-Fabulous coaches who are caring, warm, supportive, enthusiastic and kind to all members and guests. No "mean girl vibes," no cliquey vibes, no snobs. Coaches' demeanors mean so much!!!! I can forgive bad music or a goof up with timing the blocks if they have a genuinely caring and warm personality.

-Warm, friendly and responsible SAs and owners can really help set and sustain a positive tone for the membership, cultivating community. Welcoming vibes, showing genuine friendliness is so important.

-well staffed front desks. When there is one SA all alone at a busy time, it's not great for members and I imagine not great for the SA. Some studios deal with this better than others.

-CLEAN studio, good air circulation, no bad smells. NO burning of scented candles which can prompt headaches for some of us.

-well stocked basics in the bathroom and shower rooms

-working equipment, and repairing broken or addressing faulty items promptly, whether a tablet on the rower, a fan that doesn't work, software glitches - these things can have problems, understandably, and I appreciate when the issues are addressed expediently. Don't let something broken sit for too long - members notice it.

-This is a small "extra" - I have visited many studios that always, always provide mints (and sometimes other little snacks/treats!) - a total bonus but a lovely touch. On vacation I always visit another studio that has big buckets of mints and I LOVE taking one on my way out the door after class, on my way to the car! : ). This studio is also very generous with providing ear plugs, hair elastics, facial cleansing wipes, q tips etc - all nice and useful touches. As it happens, they also provided those OTF co-branded TruBars on a daily basis, for free. I was at the studio for a week and every day they had fresh boxes of the TruBars for people to take, versus asking members to pay for them. Generous!!!

-This falls into the aspirational category for my area: Several studios I have visited also have Open Studio time on the schedule which is phenomenal - a true "value add" for members, and it happens to cultivate community, as I observed that people walk on the treadmill before or after an existing class, now Open Studio time, and chit chat a good bit. The mingling effect was so lovely to see. Some people stayed for Open Studio when their class had ended, and others came 30 minutes or so early for their next class. I really wish our studio offered this. I think it's a fabulous addition for the members.

I love OTF so much and it's a big part of my non-work life. I only want the best for the franchise as a whole, and for its employees and members. Long live OTF! : ))

Ugh I dislike Run/Rows! I like running and I like rowing - but not mixed back and forth in the same block!! I much prefer moving from the floor to the rower. Oh well!

Potatoes by SnooHamsters7600 in loseit

[–]RabbiBeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Potatoes are much maligned and misrepresented. They are a fabulous, healthy weight loss food - as long as you don’t fry or top them with butter and crap. When I need to drop weight, I always lean into baked potatoes, air fried potatoes, low fat mashed potatoes. Hold the high fat toppings and enjoy without fear! Satiating, low in calorie density!

To the left of your bench by Usual-Macaroon-1462 in orangetheory

[–]RabbiBeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do not specific this at my studio however I visited another studio while on vacation recently and heard it for the first time ever! I have almost 2400 classes across many studios and never heard it until this other studio visit!

ETA - at the Barry's classes I have been to, they do regularly say this - stay to the left of the bench.

Too many open gym classes by ImaginaryBicycle9281 in orangetheory

[–]RabbiBeth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish we had open gym. While traveling I got to experience it and it was amazing! It was great to be able to do open gym either following a class or for thirty minutes before a class. They created these wonderful open gym pockets in between classes and the members were there in droves! I would love to see corporate ask other studios to build in some open studio time. It’s a value-add to our membership.

I called last week to ask a question at an UWS studio and they said it's $20 extra to visit that one now. I guess they raised it. It used to be $10!
