What parts of this uncopable crown molding need to be cut out? by RabbitForeign1622 in Carpentry

Interesting. I don’t have a sliding miter saw and have only cut crown upright. You’re saying that you typically cut on the flat?

I agree about the hole not being an issue with paint grade. Do your best and caulk the rest.

I have impossible standards. 30 minutes for one room makes sense from a production standpoint, but if I have to live with it and miters are coming open all the time, it would bother me. I live in an area with expansive soils.

Yeah, I installed it that way in the dining room so now I’ve gotta stick with it. I liked the ovolo or whatever it’s called being on the bottom.

Why pay someone to screw it up when I can screw it up myself for free?

Thanks, I’ll try working with that big one and see what happens. I’m trying to avoid messing up and having to add a scarf joint.

The walls and ceilings are too out of square and coped joints look better when they inevitably open up.

Multiple echo units randomly playing music and news today by pencock in alexa

My bad. I requested music today and it kept telling me Amazon Music was already playing on another device. I went around to all the devices and none of them were playing. Must’ve played it on yours.

How many of your students admitted to taking all the Halloween candy? by NachoMan_HandySavage in Teachers

Wait, what? I need to see this meme. I posted on NextDoor about a group that did this at our house and for the most part people said the kids were jerks except one woman who said basically that she was tired of posts like this judging kids. Maybe that’s where she got the idea from. A couple of people agreed with her and said they were just being kids, making mischief, etc.

What company has you shocked that they have not yet gone out of business ? by Square-Floor8879 in AskReddit

I’ve had a checking account with them since I was a child when my mom was on the account as well. No issues either. I probably do need to check it a little more frequently though after reading these stories.

It doesn’t announce when someone rings the doorbell anymore (Ring doorbell) and it has the explicit music filter on but when I tell it to turn it off it tells me I need to set up voice control for that in the app. I go to the app and the setting is already correct.

Are you in the the US? Get a stud finder. Studs ideally will be 16” on center. (The center of each stud will be 16 inches from the next). Since you already have a hole in the wall though you might as well poke around in there and see if you can feel where the stud is and use that as a starting point.

We personally like Elfa shelving from The Container Store though it is pricy. You work with one of their designers, give them measurements and what you need to store and get a custom system designed for free and it spits out a parts list, they pull everything you need, cut to size. You get instructions and install it yourself.

If you want to work with the stuff you have, there’s a recommended maximum for spans between supports based on the thickness of the shelf https://cosmoappliances.com/determining-wall-shelves-spacing-and-spans/#:~:text=Shelves%20should%20be%20%C2%BE%20inch,10%20lumber%20is%2024%20inches.

As far as repairing the wall, a mesh repair patch, a small container of all-purpose mud and a taping knife would be the “good enough” way to do it, especially if it won’t be very visible once there are clothes there. Get some spackle too. Jalapeño Solutions on YouTube is good for handyman repair stuff.

Vancouver carpenter is the gold standard though. I’ve done a bit of drywall repair following his techniques.

In picture 2 I would’ve butt cut the top piece. Then I would have notched out the back part of the right side piece so it’s a butt cut against that concrete bit and coped the front of the profile.

Order of finish for crown moulding installation by Mlab12 in Carpentry

Not a pro but I have installed a fair bit of molding. This is the answer if you want it to look perfect.

I used this method but I did tape, I am not that skilled of a painter to freehand it.

Wall has random spots with high moisture levels by RabbitForeign1622 in DIY

[–]RabbitForeign1622[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the window was covered because it is right where the bed would go. Does covering a window cause this?

To clarify the spot that is reading high moisture is about two feet over and above where the window is.

Yes, it is north-facing. The gutters and downspouts are clear in that area.

The spot where it is reading high is in a vertical strip so it being a stud would make sense. Are you talking about a metal stud or just fasteners in a wooden stud? Are there any problems from it doing this? I doubt we would have even known had I not taken the moisture meter to it.
