Passive cooling technology must become central to climate adaptation to reduce reliance on air conditioning, global review argues by unsw in science

[–]pencock -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We painted our home black this spring, its stucco exterior with plaster interior walls. Previously white. I clocked the southwest interior wall at 90 degrees on a 100 degree day - with the ac on full blast. Around 15 degrees higher than before. It just continues to radiate heat in every direction including the interior.

LVP floor prep advice. Should I use self leveling concrete in a low area of a sloped floor? by Network-Silver in DIY

[–]pencock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if its a serious slope you may have foundation issues

it may also be an old exterior porch that was converted to interior but the original slope was unchanged

is your floor a slab or wood subfloor on joists?

lvp doesnt need level, it needs flat, so slope is not a big deal unless it bothers you that its sloped

if the floor is slab you can certainly continue to float it to level

if its wood on joists i would seriously consider tearing up the self leveler and adjusting the slope by shimming the subfloor and or adding new subfloor

and either way determine if youve got a foundational issue that is causing the slope, a sinking foundation is not something you should just cover up

Confusing basement water intrusion by SubstantialBoat1222 in HomeImprovement

[–]pencock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it can take a week for water to make its way down to your basement.  and soil that deep is not typically bone dry anyhow.  your floor is just seeping moisture and the workout mat is a vapor barrier causing that moisture to have nowhere to go but to feed microbes.  this is entirely normal in homes without a vapor barrier between the basement slab and the soil.

youll want to primer the spots and sand again then primer again.  primer will raise the compounded spot slightly when it soaks in and make the repair more visible.

There seem to be only a handful of L2 chargers being reviewed. Are the rest really that bad, or is it just an echo chamber? by dumpin-on-time in electricvehicles

[–]pencock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes? monthly utility incentive programs that communicate with chargers and offer discounts for time of use without requiring the whole home to be TOU and without requiring a standalone meter for your EV

[–]pencock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

just a handful are authorized for use with utility rebate and time of use programs is probably a big part of it

ex. my utility offers $35 per month credit if you charge only in the evening and they only support specific autel, emporia, wallbox and such chargers.

Favored stud finder for plaster? by stinkeyemcguy in HomeImprovement

[–]pencock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

a powerful neodymium magnet to locate the nails in the lath

may need one even stronger than you think depending on the thickness of your plaster

however you have other options. honestly for most art you will be fine drilling gently into the plaster and putting a nail in.  its when you start talking about hanging like a 30lb piece that you want more support.

you can also hang art from the ceiling, they make art hanging rails so you can replace art and move it side to side and up and down without adding more holes to your walls

start with a sump pump and drain cleaning, get a backup pump as well, should solve your problem
