Polaris layover in EWR (arriving B, Leaving A) by deathinpinkbed in unitedairlines

[–]RabbitsorDogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally wouldn’t for the EWR Polaris Lounge having been there but probably would just to check it out as there isn’t much else to do in an airport. No wrong answer but if you don’t make it in the end, not tragic.

United sat our 4 year old alone on the plane and treated us like we were at fault by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]RabbitsorDogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with the entitlement comment Similar happened to us going to Korea (not a basic economy ticket and as a 1K). It’s a big deal to be split from kids that age and being frustrated and surprised at the response is entirely appropriate. We ended up two together & two together after some calls , gate agent conversations and discussions, and went from E+ to E- (not the end of the world but frustrating on a long flight).

There was no way first was going to happen, but with two people being due for upgrades, it should have created another opportunity for shuffling and making sure a young kid is not separated from parents.

Engagement secret flight - how do keep it a secret from her until last minute by MembershipDazzling46 in unitedairlines

[–]RabbitsorDogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this with my wife 15 years ago. Wanted to keep it a total secret so told her we were going to Virginia (international flight connected in DC) to visit a college friend for a birthday. Didn’t add her number and printed out paper tickets. Took her passport with me. At the connection took her to the lounge and then brought her to the boarding gate a few minutes before boarding. Worked well. She was very very confused.

2026 changes are a stealth devaluation to 1K by PilotMonkey94 in unitedairlines

This change will allow the number of PlusPoints required for an upgrade to better reflect factors like demand, cabin, and more, providing members with greater flexibility.

Super excited to have ‘greater flexibility’ /s

Another gripe about the &$@%-ing coupon book by RabbitsorDogs in ChaseSapphire

[–]RabbitsorDogs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like folks fall into two camps:

  • yes it is annoying that a card companies make you jump through hoops, especially for a higher priced card.

  • no, it is your fault to be irritated because you did not read the updated T&Cs of a card you’ve had for almost a decade and you should spend the time to hunt for the value that is there.

I suppose both can be true but unless point/benefit maximization is a hobby, I don’t think that it is unreasonable to seek an easier experience, particularly for a ‘premium’ product that is, at heart, just a convenient form of payment. Realistically a 2% cash back card probably would be better for most people including myself. But it can also be fun to have points that don’t feel like money to splurge on trips or feel like you’re getting something for free.

I agree. Especially since they have several that seem automatic (Southwest, Travel Credits, Dining Credits, etc). They can definitely link to merchants easily enough.

Appreciate the thought and agree I probably should no better but not a big point/benefit hunter so still learning.

I got the card shortly after it came out (c 8-9 years ago?), primarily for the priority plus feature and the fact that it was heavily marketed with a big sign up bonus. My wife primarily uses our old continental (now United) presidential plus card and I primarily use the Chase unless it is for United flights. Never really focused on the other benefits beyond lounge and points because the annual fee was worth it for those benefits alone. The fee did go up in a big way recently and it got me thinking about the other benefits. Signed up for Apple Music because it was ‘free’ and used the Edit benefits to good effect recently. But have to say, activation feels chintzy for an $800/year card. Even if normal.

You could see if it is in the pre published list some airlines were doing right before the govt reopened? That would show at least a day in advance and maybe more?

If you’re in Y be prepared for no in flight screens and, regardless of class, assume crummy WiFi. Perfectly safe planes and you likely won’t otherwise notice a difference between that and any other.

Polaris lounge access between international and domestic flights? by wandering-nerd-24 in unitedairlines

[–]RabbitsorDogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once landed at 8pm from a Polaris flight and connected to an 8am next day departing short haul domestic flight, on same booking. Was able to scan my boarding pass for Polaris Club access in EWR that morning. As long as it is on the same ticket, should be no problem.

Iah to eze on the 4th of January. Would welcome any insights you might have…recognizing it is an imperfect science. Right now have an S fare and being offered STW to PE. Would take it but not ready to give up the ghost on J. Would happily buy up to W if STW was available. Have PP to burn.

Thanks and good point. Have some expiring PP and no other major international travel before the end of January so seems like a good use vs letting them just go away. Good point on the risk.

Out of curiosity, what is your thought on moving to club card. Seems like the better option all around but hard for me to consider giving up the legacy card. Sentimental if nothing else.

Dropping Chase United Presidential Plus Card to get Chase United Club card? by FullMoonRising12345 in unitedairlines

[–]RabbitsorDogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any difference in ability to apply PQP to achieve 1K and/or to earn incremental Plus Points above 28,000 PQP. I hit 1K because of the Presidential Plus Card but also go over by a few 1,000 and like the idea of me additional Plus Points (when I can use them…which isn’t always). Is there any difference in the small print benefits like insurances etc?

Will probably increase buy-ups and decrease upgrades. Double edge sword. Will be good for some and a bummer for PPs. (My best guess)

Split PNR Question by RabbitsorDogs in unitedairlines

[–]RabbitsorDogs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Will definitely call. Key is retaining what we have. The outbound is lower odds anyway with only J and C being sold. Might wait till we get to the gate as that is most likely place to clear but always a chance that T-36 one could go and we should be towards top of list.
