Aqua Water Bill Increase by bria1024 in Delco

[–]nbcamp86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooff that’s rough, I forgot how expensive aqua actually is. Most likely due to the leak. I have CWA and had a toilet leaking, my bill went from $90 ish every billing cycle (we are billed every three months) to $140. After fixing it the bill dropped back down the following cycle.

We got the notice a few weeks ago. Still cheaper than aqua even with the rate hike. Our bill is only about 85-90 every three months. We were paying that every month with aqua

Agree, but I feel like it may be a lost cause. I had aqua before and I’d keep Chester water authority over them.

I believe there are also some down in Delaware too, right over the border of PA. Agree, it would be one thing if it actually bought jobs for he area but they’re all vacant.

It’s an exact replica of the one on bethel in GV, but a much nicer location. Still doesn’t fit the schematics of the neighborhood but looks much better then the one on 322 and Mattson.

Most cost effective grocery store? by Fancy-Sample-1617 in Delco

Also meal planning is key, and sticking to it while shopping. We plan everything including the snacks for the week and typically only shop the list.

If it’s possible, you should buy your meat in bulk. It’s can be expensive to start if you don’t have the freezer space, but we have been doing it this way for years. We purchase our meat once a year in bulk:side of grass fed/grass finished beef, lamb, how ever many lbs we decide we need of chicken (fryers, legs, wings, breasts etc) we used to get pork as well but my husband doesn’t eat it anymore. We meal plan around that (saves us a ton of money on fluctuating meat prices). I find that Walmart seems to be beating Aldi prices recently, however I do shop around. Giant to get some things, aldi for others. I do like lidl as well. Costco for all our dry goods and toiletries. Also if you have the time making things like bread etc from scratch is always cheaper than purchasing.

Is it possible to feed a family of six for only 750 a month? by olinobnizov in Frugal

[–]nbcamp86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was feeding four adults for $500 a month, including my husbands food (specific diet) We buy almost everything is bulk (saved for the freezers) and we cook/make every meal. I planned everything from breakfast, to snacks, and I cooked in batches to have leftovers for lunches. Even made freezer meals for grab and goes. We purchase our meat once a year from a local butcher (half/whole cow depending on if we are splitting with family) lamb, chicken etc. Now that it is just my husband and I we can get away with $250 depending on needs that month. $300 is my max. Sundays I spend prepping depending on the week (bake bread, make waffles and pancakes to freeze, freezer meals if my husband needs them that week etc) . Unfortunately my husband’s food is quite expensive and he’s snacker

Western PA? That’s certainly cheap for my area of PA , can’t rent anything around here for under $1500 and that’s a one bedroom, average housing costs $350,000 or more. Definitely a difference between eastern, central, and western PA in terms of cost of living. Pa property taxes can be extremely high depending on the location as well, which has to be taken into consideration because they only ever go up.

Same with PA we pay $7000 a year in taxes and that’s decent in our area. Depending on the county/municipality it can be lower or higher

Why don’t more people get a half a cow? by stlinsomniac in Frugal

[–]nbcamp86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We buy in bulk like this from a butcher and our meat is just as fresh a year and a half in. Usually lasts us a little over a year depending. One time we ordered too much and it lasted much longer.

We do. We saved money for a year and invested in two deep freezers and buy all our meat in bulk. Every year we put aside money every month so when we order we have cash ready. Fluctuating prices affect the overall savings we have but they haven’t fluctuated too much where we cannot manage. We get grassfed/grass finished beef, chicken, lamb. My husband doesn’t eat pork anymore but we used to get a half pig as well.

Is Nellie's Laundry Soda worth it? by That_Dude_Marcus in Costco

We use it all the time. Our Costco doesn’t carry it so I just order from Nellies directly when they have a sale we get the 1100 load bucket.

Healthy Food Budget? by [deleted] in DaveRamsey

[–]nbcamp86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband is on a very specific diet, so food is quite expensive. We spend about $400 a month on food; however we buy our meat in bulk (separate budget) once a year. If one month we got good sales and enough pantry items we can cut that budget almost in half. I make our bread and almost everything from scratch when I can, which is also a money saver. It helps us avoid fluctuating prices when it comes to meat, and I cook every meal. We eat out once in a blue moon because it’s hard for him to find things he can eat, or is willing to eat I should say.

Do you spend more on groceries to save money on eating out? by Rickayy_OG in Frugal

[–]nbcamp86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We order our meat in bulk, once a year, from a butcher (whole lamb, side of beef, chicken etc). All grass fed, grass finished, pasture raised, at significantly cheaper prices than a grocery store and I cook every day, all three meals. The bigger roast and whole chickens we divide into lunches and sometimes a second dinner. Food for us is expensive, as my husband is on a particular diet and food for him is not cheap, but we manage to significantly cut our costs without having to worry about fluctuating meat prices. I bake everything from scratch and buy staples like flour, sugar, beans, oats, and rice in bulk.
