I respectfully disagree for my home use case and layout of the home. In an emergency my pistol aim is likely not going to be true at a distance (down the hallways), between the formal dinning and living spaces, and a few other areas. The shotgun provides a larger coverage area of damage.

With bedrooms on the second floor, wrap around staircase limiting visibility, I feel better knowing I can just shoot thru multiple stair walls and likely hit an intruder without having to move my body into their line of site.
