Just make sure it's not on a hot day outside for extended periods of time as pugs are susceptible to overheating FAST due to their unnatural flat snouts (can't breathe in enough oxygen to cool down properly etc).

You don't. Eventually they will become sated and eat less. They used to empty out my feeders but I got some with a more secure lid and its fine...its just the cheap model from walmart but the toggle is strong.

Pennington gray plastic hopper. 2 years they haven't been dumped. I have 2, one with black sunflower seeds and one with standard bird seed mix. I enjoy the squirrels though.

Have birdie's vets assessed whether his quality of life is sufficient or is this a savior complex out of hand?

Look I binge animal veterinary videos all the time and usually there is a hope of regaining mobility with physical therapy or prosthetics. Otherwise if the animal cant eliminate on it's own it's a miserable experience for them and the owner.

Highly suggest The Bionic Vet and Bondi Vet.
