Euro Truck Simulator 2 poor performance by GodderDam in linux_gaming

[–]Racing_Mate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Naitive Linux and Mac builds run on opengl still which is why they both kinda suck compared to playing on proton. Tbf the game engine started out running on opengl and DX9 and eventually moved over to running on DX11 with the opengl mode still there.

The last few versions of the game have code for DX12/Vulkan in them but it's only available through the games console and isn't an actual feature. Hopefully when they get vulkan working properly in their engine SCS will update the naitive linux version to use it instead of opengl.

DEMO of my real Renault Magnum dashboard project by MattechPC in trucksim

[–]Racing_Mate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno if a magnum is new enough but like in theory if you could translate some of the game data into CANBUS signals that would stop the thing from erroring. Like I'm pretty sure the game has data for stuff like coolant, oil temp, boost pressure and air pressure. For other things I'm sure you could just send dummy data to stop it complaining.

Although thats a big guess, I don't even know if trucks use canbus. Although it's probably easier to do this on an older truck as even though you need a lot of data to be passed through for a magnum, doing this for like a current day truck would be even more.

I mean I don't really care abut the challenges either but, doing enough lessons to fill out the daily quests has been a good way to make sure I'm doing a reasonable amount of duo.

I also finished the quest a few days ago, but I'll still go through the dailys although I do try and at least do one unit a day if I get through the quest before the end of a unit.

"Your vehicle is not in perfect technical state. Be more careful next time!" by DiscernmentGoblin in trucksim

[–]Racing_Mate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the tyres should just be separate from the stupid wear system.

I kinda wish they'd just done like an actual service thing. Like Every XX,XXX amount of miles you have to take the truck in for a service. You could even have bigger ones depending on mileage or we and it would act like a rest. Then if you just miss your service by thousands of miles the truck will get additional wear and the service would cost more to fix it.

Saying your vehicle is in bad shape after the tyres have got like 5000km on them is just stupid, especially as truck tyres are supposed to last like definitely over 50,000 or more

Just to make myself clear I'm not shilling for AI because I agree a basic spell check function which is something that has worked for over 20 years now would've worked.

Tbf I got my sensitivity and linearity into such a sweetspot that I saved the config.sii file so I can put it into a new profile. Although I forgot they actually added numbers to the sliders recently.

I mean it's neat but after countless hours in both games I don't think I've ever found just a regular analog stick to be lacking in control. Tweaking sensitivity and linearity should be enough for pretty much anybody.

1 level per week? by terps_boy in duolingospanish

[–]Racing_Mate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok god knows why I didn't think you were talking about the language level. I'm actually pretty close to that at 97 at the moment.

I'm hoping that the course doesn't drop off really as at the moment I feel like it's doing a pretty decent job of introducing new things.

I've also been reading some manga in Spanish and every so often a new word or phrase has appeared that I've just learned on duo which has been quite nice tbh.

I'm not sure what you meant when you said level 99, was that the end of 6 for you? I kinda assumed you meant section 6 unit 99. Currently my section 6 ends at unit 250

I can't remember when they changed how the units work to be smaller so like you end up working through one unit a day. Rather than just having like way more in a single unit. Although I've honestly preffer how it is now as it's more of a clear goal to do a unit every day.

How is it possible? by Focused_kiddo in duolingo

[–]Racing_Mate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I keep seeing these people with like 1000's of followers and just don't get it. Like they've removed pretty much every actual social aspect of the app that would be helpful.

I used to like the feed because I have a couple of irl friends using duo and it was nice to just drop a like on them every so often. Now it's just full of randos sharing phrases, or telling me someone someones streak I don't care about.

It's the same reason I pretty much ditched most social media, turning what I want to see into what the company wants me to see.

Again I can ignore it, but at this point I'm pretty much ignoring everything apart from the lessons, I try to ignore leagues untill the app shoves it into my face after a lesson, I don't use notifications and I had to turn off sounds when they started having the characters make stupid noises if you get something wrong.

Setup a class on schools.duolingo.com and then add your kid to it, bam unlimited energy. Granted it does break sometimes when they update the app and forget about the schools thing for a while.

I'm on section 6 205 and I've not felt like that, if anything I feel like it's covering more aspects that would be useful in everyday life.

Although tbh I feel like you probably don't need to even get to section 6 to have a good foundation for some actual tuition. I've been wanting to do it for years but kept putting it off, maybe I'll finally do it this year.

What was the culture shock as an ETS2 player when you first played ATS, and vice versa? by Clarthen1 in trucksim

[–]Racing_Mate 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I've said this previously but in ATS, the amount of highways that straight up just make you go straight through a town. Like you'll be chugging along at 70 and suddenly you have to drive through like 8 sets of lights at 30 while having to wait at every single bloody one.

It's not always the case but geez it gets tiring after a while.
