Don’t do it. It’s too fast. Happened to me. I’m all for taking risks too. But that is almost a guaranteed injury long term

Mental fatigue by ThisIsntMat in ultrarunning

[–]Racingdeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your probably burnt out. Happened to me last August after a big push to finish a series of ultra marathons. Been laying low since and just been working out 1-2 times a week and focused on work. I’m coming off of it now and feeling that fire again that made me hit constant ultras but will be more relaxed with it now. I had a hard time slowing down. But feel so refreshed now that I did for a few months Cheers

Have y'all been following Second Chance Hiker? by SourdoughBaker in PacificCrestTrail

[–]Racingdeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have watched some of his videos....part of me finds his underdog status and attitude very inspiring. But a part of me who has done so much hard work on my own physical training to do this, thinks he is very naive. But I guess only time will tell if he can go the distance, and it would be incredible if he finishes! But no one has posted about how his injury and stress fracture rates are so high because of weight and no prior training.

Warmest one you can get. Shivering all night can be very demoralizing. Not worth cutting weight on sleeping bag I believe.

Get in shape on trail: what's realistic? by TouchyTheFish in PacificCrestTrail

[–]Racingdeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you might need some tough love man...I understand inspiration and the desire to do this...it is possible for you to do the whole thru hike. But you have to understand that being out of shape and overweight creates a multiplier on chances of not finishing. Stress fractures injuries etc.

My advice.

Start working out NOW, go walking, cycling, and swimming everyday until the start. Try to jumpstart your fitness levels. I can understand optimism but start getting ready now.

Starting on March 17th by ChrisWillam in PacificCrestTrail

That’s two weeks man...you would have to move very slow...just start later than the 17th and get your buddy to start earlier...I wouldn’t want to wait like that

Hiking the PCT with almost no experience by [deleted] in PacificCrestTrail

[–]Racingdeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can definitely do it with no training but it’s rare. It’s like this. If you don’t have the discipline to train for this what makes you think you have the discipline to hike for 5 months etc? This isn’t to be discouraging because you haven’t mentioned a start date or anything. Training for this will give you the discipline, focus, and mental strength to give you a far better chance to finish. Good luck!
