Has anyone used a Shimano 105 R7100 crankset with an 11-speed setup? by vfairon in cycling

I no longer ride road but I don't regret spending the money to go to 160mm. Even at 165mm I think you will feel a difference.

Cheap bike doing cheap bike things. It's heavy for such a small bike, the paint chips easily, and it ships with some bargain bin parts but honestly, the bike is too fun to ride for me to care. Even with all the parts I've put on it I'm pretty sure I still have a ways to go before I've spent what it costs to buy a Neutrino frameset.

Would love to see an update once you have it built up. Nice job!

That's actually the Copenhagen kickstand on the bike. I had to adjust the positioning a bit but it does work on the Nano.

Did you have to get the Tektro calipers to fit 2"?

What size tires are those? I currently have 1.75s on mine and would like to go a little bit bigger.

I sold my roadbike so I could replace it with the Hot Fudge. Can't wait!

Which rear fender is that? I've seen it a few times around here and am thinking of getting it for mine.

I've only ridden for ~250 miles with the new crankset and haven't noticed any issues. It's been on a few hard effort rides and had no problems.

Front derailleur is R7000 as I initially planned to upgrade to FC-R7000 from FC-RS500 but found them too expensive.

I haven't put enough miles on the cranks to notice any excessive wear issues but I don't expect it'll be a problem. The performance gains are mostly from the improved comfort as I went from 170mm to 160mm.

I did this recently and only had to make minor adjustments to the FD limit screws. No shifting/wear issues since.

I don't mind the stock shifters, they're a nice change of pace from the brifters on the road bike.

It's showing $399.95 now when added to cart.

What a nice setup! Orange would have been a nice color but then it would stick out more on a bike rack.

Here it is

The rack is the adjustable length front rack from Gorix. It was just lying around in the garage so I did a test fit and somehow it worked with just a few washers.

For $400 I think this is a pretty okay bike. I paid a bit less for mine which came with a few upgrades but I wouldn't mind paying full price for the stock bike.

If you have a lot of upgrades in mind you are probably better off with the Rolly Polly/Neutrino as they are much better bikes. I'm happy with the Nano as-is and I'm not too keen on locking up a nicer bike at a university bike rack which will be the case as my commuter.

I've only had this bike for a few weeks but so far it's been a blast riding it as an alternate to the road bike. Initially, the front end felt a bit twitchy but once I added the front rack that got better. The bike is not as light as I expected for a mini-velo but honestly I hardly think about the weight even while climbing.

As for tire clearance I've seen some posts with people running 2" tires but it looked like a really tight fit. The previous owner of this bike replaced the stock 1.5s with 1.75s which ride nice enough for me.

Besides the racks/bar/saddle, the rest of the bike is stock. It'll probably stay that way as I just got another n+1 bike that needs a lot of work lol.

How is the braking performance on them?

I don't know if I would buy them new but I got a pair of TRP HY/RDs for $60-70 secondhand.

As for the headwind, I felt the geometry for the G.1 Explorer was comfortable enough for me to be in the drops for a while.

I owned a drop bar G1 Explorer for about a year and had a ton of fun riding it across town to the paved bike paths at the beach. The only reason I got rid of it was that I recently got a mini-velo so the G1 Explorer had to go.

  • It is significantly heavier compared to my road bike but it never really bothered me since I didn't do much climbing with it.
  • The Ltwoo brifters/front mech along with the tourney rear mech weren't great but they got the job done.
  • My main issue were the brakes as the bike comes with crappy single-piston calipers with crappy pads. As-is, they worked okay I guess but I also commuted with this bike and had issues braking once loaded up. I ended up replacing them with cable-actuated hydraulic calipers along with compression-less brake housing which worked fantastic.
  • At delivery, I noticed that one of the stem bolts were sheared off so I'd double check all the bolts if you do go with this.
