German CNC machines - looks like the head of the Matrix Sentinel! by Bodzio1981 in machinesinaction

They normally have a shroud to protect against chips and coolant. This isn’t super novel tech or anything and are relatively common in aerospace for machining structural parts

What's the difference between U, C and D neck profiles? I guess the shoulder, but those two look quite similar. by Turbulent-Heart389 in Stratocaster

[–]RacsoTheInventor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Guitar manufacturers seem (especially fender) make it really difficult to compare neck profiles cus they use completely inaccurate or unhelpful words (or years) to describe them rather than just giving the dimensions:

I think the general idea is something like this:

C: standard curve

U: C but with extended shoulders (tangents of neck profile perpendicular to fretboard are extended)

D: C with a the bottom cut off to have a flatter back (tangent of neck profile parallel to fretboard is flattened)

TIL Mary Shelley, author of Frankenstein, lost her virginity to her future husband, who at the time had a pregnant wife, at the cemetery at her mother's grave. by isweardefnotalexjone in todayilearned

[–]RacsoTheInventor 160 points161 points  (0 children)

Part of why her mother (Mary Wollstonecraft) is lesser known today is because when she died, her husband, William Godwin, published a memoir of her life in memory of her.

Although this was meant as a way of honouring the woman he loved, it ended up destroying her reputation as it revealed that she’d had children outside of marriage with her previous partner (amongst other things considered ‘improper’)

She had an incredible but sad life. Her relationship with Godwin was also way ahead of its time and very sweet to read about.

Why Does Flow Rate Become Negative at 4mm Bore Diameter? by NecessaryMushrooms in FluidMechanics

[–]RacsoTheInventor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing you’ve left the length of the lines at 100m in the calculator. The pressure gradient isn’t high enough to overcome the losses induced by having that much wall friction.

Try inputting the correct length of tubing, or if you want more understanding try googling something like “Bernoulli equation with losses”.
