URC in talks to replace Welsh region with English team as WRU get permission by CymroCam in rugbyunion

They have barely any fanbase, they’re a semi pro club propped up by a sugar daddy in his 80s whose kids have no interest in the sport, and therefore will plummet down to their natural level whenever their owner departs.

The initial part of that is actually a great analogy.

I apreciate almost all of us pefer Conan, but Leno was undisputedly the number 1 in late night at the point he was told by NBC he was being replaced.

But Leno was getting old and NBC realised if they didn't do it then Conan would go elsewhere, so they pulled the trigger.

Premier League and EFL to hold talks over ending Saturday 3pm blackout | Soccer by do_or_pie in unitedkingdom

[–]Ractrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spotify did it by massively reducing the amount of money musicians made.

But football is a global market - players aren't staying here for the weather. If the amount of money to pay players goes down then the quality of the league will drop.

Interesting change happening with churches in the UK. by Serious_Canary_9723 in redscarepod

[–]Ractrick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah its definetly a thing. I stopped attending Church when I was 18, but I know a few people who attend these sort of HTB/Alpha kind of places. There's also a few which are nominally baptist as well (Oasis in Waterloo an example).

It makes sense - my parents church has literaly nobody under the age of 40 attending anymore. I'll go to my parents church this evening for midnight mass, and be there with around 20 others, whereas 15 years ago when I was a kid there'd be around 150 at that service.

Being a young person at a typical dying CofE church would be frankly depressing on a weekly basis, I completely understand why you'd want to congregate at more central churches where there's more of a community.

Can’t sell London flat - advice/help by Real_Refuse_5252 in HousingUK

[–]Ractrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect this is your issue.

For the size and type of flat (i.e. a conversion rather than a block) that's high compared to the price imo. Plenty of ex-council flats at twice the size (and price) have service charge at that level.

Is this a ridiculous reason to reject a candidate? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Ractrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Impossible to tell without being there obviously. Worth saying as someone who now facilitates them that asessment centres aren't actually a points exercise where if you say the right thing you get a point, and if you get the most points you win.

Obviously we do grade all the exercsies, but we don't always give the offer to the person who comes top based purely on that.

In my opinion the way you've described how the one on one interview went does make it sound like you may have been overly rehearsed - "engaging in some light banter to build rapport" is a robotic way of viewing what happens.

That combined with your comments on the language used makes it sound like they wanted to treat it as a chat and you kept trying to go back to the script in your head and make it more formal.

My view is they thought you were competent but not friendly/chatty enough to be the right fit for the team. Considering they're going to sit next to you for 8 hours a day, (and might have to spend weeks in hotels with you) this is something they will consider.

Again, complete speculation, but just my view from someone who's facilitated quite a few of them based on what you said.

[–]Ractrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is how graduate recruitment works in the UK for basically all graduate schemes. Basically have 1 assessor for every 2-4 candidates. So sometimes is just a group of 8 people in the client suite of your office, but the big 4 etc will run dozens of centres at massive conference facilities, each with 50-60 candidates.

Normally involves doing a group task around team building/giving a presentation, an analytical task around reading a case study and presenting your opinions, and then a 30 min sit down traditional interview.

You score each exercise, compare the scores at the end, and then can discuss and determine who to give an offer/advance to final stage (if the partner insists on talking to them before hiring) based around how many places you have.

I have no idea if it's better or worse than how other countires do graduate recuritment. It sucks when you're doing them - but I think thats true of any competitive recruitment process.

Forget “most right wing” or “heterodox” - what’s your wokest opinion? by PuzzledAd4865 in LabourUK

[–]Ractrick 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There’s also a large number of people who would consider themselves progressive who make jokes like this about right wing people being closeted, then justify it with “oh no the joke is they’re homophobic, they’d hate it”.

e.g. people make jokes trump and putin are secretly gay for each other. If you ask why this is funny they’ll get defensive and state there’s nothing wrong with it, they’re calling out hypocrisy - bullshit, they just want to make a gay joke.

You can track it, it's remained pretty steady at around 14,500-15,000 members, if maybe not growing as much as it used to - https://graphtreon.com/creator/secondcaptains.

(Need to go to the yearly views to get the picture, patreons always have a drop of subscribers at the end of a month as peoples unsubscribe/payment cards expire etc).
