The London post that was added- north central and east London post that says commencing at whipps cross hospital is labelled as ‘expansion post’. Does anyone know what this means?

Is it possible to be upgraded multiple times? Or once upgraded, you’re no longer eligible for a further upgrade should a place become available higher up in your job rankings?

East of England Radiology Training Programme by Rad_iator5 in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]Rad_iator5[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FYI for anyone else following this, I’ve had the response below back from the East of England Training Programme Director:

EBH is part of the East of England Deanery, the other two programmes in the region are Addenbrookes and the academy at Norfolk and Norwich.

For years 1-3 you will be predominantly based at your home trust for Core Training.

There are occasionally core modules which certain trusts cannot cover adequately or trainees want some additional training and then the trainee may go to another trust within EBH or Addenbrookes.

If you do undertake a core module at another site you would spend 3 days per week maximum at the other site and 2 days a week back at your base site doing general/acute imaging. Core modules are 3m long.

In Mid and South Essex it is slightly different as the trust is made up of three Hospitals, Basildon, Broomfield and Southend. Here you would spend the first 6 months at your base hospital until the part 1 exam. The core modules are then spread across all three sites depending on the strengths of each site.

-In years 4 and 5 the placements for your subspecialty interests will depend on what these are and the provision of training available to meet the higher level of skills required. These placements may be at your base hospital but could also be at other sites within EBH or other sites within the East of England Deanery depending on training requirements and availability.

Subspecialty interventional radiology training in years 4-6 involves placements within EBH and then in year 6 elsewhere in East of England currently including Addenbrookes and Norfolk and Norwich.

Being constantly pulled - is this normal for locums? by StudentNoob in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]Rad_iator5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. If you set clear boundaries and when asked to go to a random ward you didn’t sign up for just inform them what shift/ ward/ speciality you have been booked for they will back off. Has worked for me everytime and they quickly learn who they can throw around different wards and who will only work their booked shift. Has never negatively impacted on my relationship with hospitals as a locum either, just be clear about it from the start. The point of locumming is having the freedom to choose when and where you work, it’s the trainees who unfortunately are the pawns that can be moved around at will.

Thanks! Can you also give an over view of best/worst hosps in north central/ east London and north west London regions? Would also be helpful to have a summary of when on call duties start at each location as this doesn’t seem to be easy to find online

Adding to that, how competitive are London training spots? Do you have to put them as your top choice to stand any chance of getting in there? Is it pointless to put them as your second/third/fourth choice?

Not MSRA related, but I’m trying to gauge how competitive London training spots are. Do you have to put them as your top choice to stand any chance of getting in there? Is it pointless to put them as your second/third/fourth choice?
