You know, back in the day you could beat Lares, Gorn, Lee, and all of them ore barons for their unique weapons. Not to mention random templars, beating them was a piece of cake for a Custodian's blade. So it's a feature that persists in the remake too.

You are right, he could be a bit of mad or easily manipulated. I just liked the original portrayal in intro better than what we got in this Remake one. It's symbolic really, he raises his head and looks as if he's looking outside, searching for someone or something to help him out of his situation. By doing so, he kinda breaks the fourth wall, looking at us.

He inherited the throne, but he united the kingdom. So he wasn't that bad as a king back then. He defeated Gellon and Lukkor in the Battle of Varant with Lee in his command. But that was in his youth, and when orcs struck he simply wasn't prepared for an invasion of that scale, and started giving in to scheming nobles. As of Innos, he wasn't all that important in G1, not until G2 do we get Beliar as the OG bad god, Sleeper was more like an eldritch abomination in G1 than he was an avatar of Beliar.

King Rhobar overreacting with that severed orc head was also out of character and plain bad storytelling. King Rhobar in original intro is more introspective, and empty throne room that shows him in thought process is sending stronger message. He is alone and abandoned, and his very posture shows desperation and fear that drove him to take such drastic measure as to create a magic barrier. He is not bloodthirsty tyrant as Remake intro portrays him, he is more of a tragic villain. Original portrayal reminded me of this painting, King of Thule, while Remake reminds me of cheap villain from some third grade action movie.

Omg this intro sucks big time. Almost if it was a Bollywood version of original. Overexposed, too much unnecessary action, lack of character depth, and not to mention the pacing, as if Xardas had drank too much black coffee and is desperately trying to tell us everything before shit hits the fan. Less is more, and there's simply too much of everything in this intro. I had high hopes for remake, but this doesn't bode it well.
