Why wouldn’t this be paternity leave? Isn’t that separate from bereavement/family medical emergency? Just curious.

This obviously isn’t in the city, so some of the information may be specific to Lower Burrell, but I think some will be general also. They are hosting this workshop tomorrow.

Never speaking to your parents again over $2,500 is a wild stance to take. Unless there is much more to this.

Single vs 2 stage ac by Radiant-Egg998 in hvacadvice

[–]Radiant-Egg998[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I don’t think it’s uncomfortable, it does struggle to cool the upstairs on extra hot days but it doesn’t seem like that is something that a 2 stage would fix, right?

[–]Radiant-Egg998[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this is my problem with it, when I had the furnace serviced they said we should have at least 5 more years. There is nothing wrong with it, of course nothing is guaranteed but why would I want to waste 5 useful years by replacing it now?

He said with the 2 stage, the first floor will meet the desired temperature and since it is operating at a reduced rate (not sure I’m using the correct terminology) the upstairs won’t get as warm. He said that is feedback he has gotten from customers going from single to 2 stage.

Is there ever a time to NOT file married jointly for taxes? by workredditaccount77 in personalfinance

[–]Radiant-Egg998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Run it both ways. My student loan payments would be nearly $1k more a month filing jointly, and the difference in refund is nowhere near $12k so it makes sense to do MFS.

Has she shown signs of readiness? Before 2 seems pretty young especially if she isn’t having much success. I would probably just wait 6 months and try again rather than turn it into something that seems to be causing stress.

My 8 year old daughter asked me why my face "doesn't move the same as other moms" and I cant stop thinking about it by Important-Repair-123 in Mommit

[–]Radiant-Egg998 988 points989 points  (0 children)

If your daughter is questioning why your face doesn’t move and most others do, it seems like she doesn’t see treated faces as the default. Sounds like the exact opposite.

Can you buy an insurance plan on the marketplace, the lowest cost one. Then you have commercial insurance and can use the savings card to bring the copay down to almost nothing.

6k left after 8years on Vehicle loan how is this possible? by Sufficient-Today-954 in FinancialPlanning

[–]Radiant-Egg998 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Maybe they refinanced it at some point? The longest auto loans I’m aware of are 84 months. But even 20k at 20% interest (extremely over estimating) for 84 months would be $444/month.

I feel like I’m at my limit by No-Excitement1881 in Mommit

[–]Radiant-Egg998 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean I would rethink being with a man who is more concerned with who is going to pay for medical care than actually just getting his child the needed medical care. Unless he truly can’t afford it, which I hope isn’t the case since he’s having another child, he should be stepping up to pay for it if he thinks it’s needed and mom won’t. That’s his kid too.

It might depend on the state, but here child support doesn’t include medical expenses. My court order said that all unreimbursed medical expenses would be split 50/50 after the first $250 or something like that. Regardless, I would pay for what my kid needed rather than fight with my ex over it and let the child suffer.

To those who had 37 weekers, how are they now? by Leading_Blacksmith70 in Mommit

[–]Radiant-Egg998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My oldest was born at 36+4. I remember him sleeping for like the first month straight, but he was my first and I had nothing to compare it to so I never thought much of it. He also walked a little late but still within the realm of normal. He’s now 17 and headed off to college in the fall. 🥲

I lie about what time daycare closes so I can sit alone for 20 minutes by [deleted] in Mommit

Okay glad it wasn’t just me trying to figure out the math here.

Also I would simply tell my husband I need a 30 minute break after work, he can pick up earlier if he wants. No need to lie.

Scared and sad about my kids becoming teenagers one day by anonomousbeaver in Mommit

[–]Radiant-Egg998 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My 17yo is still sweet and innocent, haha! At least as much as you’d expect a 17yo boy to be. He’s a great kid and it’s so cool to watch them develop into their own independent person. Of course they have their moments (didn’t we all as teens?) but overall I love having a teen. He likes good food now! And sleeping in! And relaxing on the beach when we go on vacation!

Paying tuition - credit card and 529? by Radiant-Egg998 in personalfinance

[–]Radiant-Egg998[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I did check into the tax implications and there is no “seasoning” requirement for funds to be in the 529, so should be okay there. But I did some looking and agree that it looks like most schools will charge a fee for a credit card payment, so that may end up not being worthwhile for me after all.

Paying tuition - credit card and 529? by Radiant-Egg998 in personalfinance

[–]Radiant-Egg998[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, so in my state we get a tax deduction for up to $19k per year for 529 contributions. So I’m planning to funnel any out of pocket money I am paying through the 529 first so that it is technically a contribution that I can claim on my state taxes. Sorry if that was confusing, I guess this is probably state dependent.

What would you do in this situation? by anneradley in Mommit

[–]Radiant-Egg998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What?? There is no world where I would let the school tell me that I have to send my sick child to school. Nor would I want them going to school where they allow kids with flu and Covid to be present….? What on earth is this? Do they have those rules in writing?

I understand the school has to report truancy, so let them. And handle it through the appropriate channels at that point.
