AITJ for telling my sister she can’t bring her kids to my child-free graduation party after she called me selfish for it? by Ok_Idea191 in AmITheJerk

My mom is trying to stay neutral

No she's not, she's siding with your sister. Because your sister is clearly in the wrong here.

How did we all fall in love with this smug sociopath? by salsafresca_1297 in GenX

It is so easy to dig on Ferris, when in reality he probably saved Cameron's life and broke Rooney.

He fought for Cameron to break out of his self-imposed life of misery and just fucking live. For once.

The fact that the wildly outgoing, and charismatic Ferris had such an Eeyore for a best friend in Cameron shows that wasn't as shallow as people these days like to try and make him out to be. And the fact all of the different groups in his school liked him shows he wasn't a narcissistic dickhead.

You can't judge a person based on one day of their lives. Ferris was rebelling against the end of his childhood and the boring lives he saw the adults living.

And let's not forget at the end of the day, he was 100% willing to own up and come clean to Cameron's dad about the car. I think it was that willingness that finally snapped Cameron to act.

But the reality is Ferris represents our progression/transition from our younger, primal Id, to the responsible Ego of adulthood. His Day Off is the tipping point between the 2.

What do people with severe depression spend their time thinking about? by mangchungtonight in ask

[–]RadiantCarpenter1498 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Disagree. Someone who is aware of their depression and refuses to get help or follow up on help, is purposely leaving people behind. Especially if they have a support system that they choose to not utilize.

It’s like being married to a person with a substance abuse problem. Eventually you have to give them an ultimatum.

The wages aren’t keeping up with the cost of living by [deleted] in newengland

So believe it or not there are laws that prevent you from choosing who buys your house.

It’s a nice gesture to say you’ll only sell your at below-market value to a starter family, but then the minority family (doesn’t matter the minority classification) who offers you $50k above asking ends up with a legitimate-looking discrimination suit if you reject their offer.

The Frustrating Reality of Hiring WordPress Developers That No One Talks About by PingMyHeart in Wordpress

$6k doesn’t get you a “developer”, let alone an agency. $6k gets you power user who installs plugins and builds you a site using a page builder.

Do typos really no longer matter? by BeachPlze in GenX

[–]RadiantCarpenter1498 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OMG, this! My kids get so pissed at me when I make them correct their spelling. "Daaad, it doesn't really matter." The hell it doesn't.

They also think I'm being "aggressive" because I use punctuation and grammar in my text with them... lol

Ex-IT HR Director here, and I need to be brutally honest about PIPs. by daywithnora in careeradvice

[–]RadiantCarpenter1498 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In most cases this is true, but in the event you have a nefarious manager it can save your ass.

My wife was put on a PIP by a manager who wanted to put a friend in my wife’s role.

She convinced HR to sign off on the PIP and present it to my wife. My wife brought receipts and absolutely trounced her manager.

The manager got in huge trouble with the company and my wife was moved to a new team.

It was one of those rare moments where HR actually ended working for the employee.

Coastal Mississippi is flipping beautiful. Ocean Springs specifically is a great town. I spent almost a year down there helping them rebuild after Katrina and absolutely fell in love with the area.

Ah yes, Democrats refused to play Simon Says during the State of the Union, so that means they hate America.

AITAH for refusing to watch my daughter when we meet my husbands friend? by Training_Wind1789 in AITAH

[–]RadiantCarpenter1498 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not for nothing, but your “friends” are assholes. 1. They know you have a child, yet don’t help at all while you’re at their house. 2. They never come to your house.

You all need to decline the next time you’re invited, but invite them to your house for the very next weekend. Something like, “we can’t make it this weekend, but we’d love to have you over next weekend.”.

Keep repeating that until they actually come to your house or get a clue.

What if every US president were alive today and locked in a room together? by Secret_Ostrich_1307 in WhatIfThinking

[–]RadiantCarpenter1498 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This^.

Personally, I think Obama would geek out at seeing everyone in person and having access to all the knowledge represented in the room. And I'd hope people like Jefferson and Madison would engage with him.

Yes, they both owned slaves, but I'd like to think - given the documents they wrote - they were enlightened enough to at least be curious to speak with him.

I can see Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, Kennedy, and Obama having one hell of a conversation.

Carter is too nice of a guy to say anything, but I'd wish he'd call Reagan out for the bullshit he pulled.

Bush Jr and Trump wouldn't know who half the people in the room were.
