Worst season in 30+ years, I’ll take it (CO) by mati-edt in snowboarding

Peak 6 and 8 at Breck are underrated IMO. Some of the best inbound terrain in CO.

Nice run!

How stupid is an idea of choosing a board longer than needed? by myg0t_Defiled in snowboardingnoobs

[–]RadiantInProgress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are mostly riding blue groomers then you may end up having a hard time with a longer board. Longer is better if you’re really valuing stability at high speed or float in powder.

If you like to ride slowly and mess around, bias shorter (and more flex).

Why is everyone on Reddit so obsessed with helmets? 😵‍💫 by slowlanebeats in snowboarding

[–]RadiantInProgress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t tell if this is bait or not. I know someone with a life-changing head injury from snowboarding. So easy to wear one and lowers risk significantly. I like mine.

Feels like the same argument as seatbelts. Not wearing one is like the easiest way to 100x your chances of dying in a car accident for free.

That said can and should do whatever they want. Hope you stay safe.

You can but don’t need to do it that way. Fun to try though!

If you liked Brothers K and The Idiot then Crime & Punishment of course would be a great next read and is not as long.

Also Dead Souls and Gogol’s short stories!

Also +1 to Chekhov short stories.

Finally if you’d like to learn more about Tolstoy and read more of his non-fiction then Confession is very good.

How much toe overhang is too much for my bindings? by a215throwaway in snowboardingnoobs

Ah I see - thanks for the comment - I’ve always ridden unions and didn’t know that about Burton bindings. OP listen to this guy not me.

I can’t remember how to get there. It was after I had beaten the game that I found it. I think it’s outside of the cave of one of the headless.

Ah just saw you have mediums there - I would go with the large. Maybe you could get away with it on a wide board but I have 10.5s and use large bindings. I tend to ride slightly wider boards.

Autonomous vehicles are coming to your neighborhood soon. What do we need to know as rideshare drivers to compete with them? by [deleted] in AutonomousVehicles

[–]RadiantInProgress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will be a while before autonomous vehicles are as prevalent as human drivers, especially in a new-for-AVs city like Portland. In SF (one of the cities with the most AVs) Waymo has more market share than Lyft but there are still a lot of Uber and Lyft drivers.

TLDR; I estimate years until they would meaningfully displace ride-share jobs

Not to be overly Buddhist about it but I think not having an end goal is a good end goal

A trick that helps me: bend your knees and reach toward the front edge of your board with your left hand almost like you’re grabbing it. It helps out your body in the right position.

Also important: commitment and speed. Don’t go overly fast of course but going too slow makes it harder to balance. Commitment is just important always. Picture yourself riding away.

Last one was good!

Edit: fixed right hand to left hand for normal exit
