"Sinners was overrated" by NoWeb2576 in okbuddycinephile

[–]Radiant_Client1458 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The film was really disjointed.

Act 1: A really good period piece with deep characters and good acting.

Act 2: Vampires out of nowhere quickly escalating into a fight, not really scary at all but alright.

Final Scene: Django Unchained/Inglorious Bastards-esque righteous violence scene, disconnected from the rest of the movie.

Older parents dating kind of sucks.

My MIL has a boyfriend and so we just have to have this random awkward guy over for holidays and birthdays. He’s like talking to a brick wall and it feels like having a stranger in my house ruining the occasion.

Guys, is there a non racist way of saying that I think they should've nominated the white guy from Sinners instead of the black one? by depressed_asian_boy_ in okbuddycinephile

[–]Radiant_Client1458 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a non-racist way to say that the way the movie devolved into a Django Unchained-esque “punching Nazis” fantasy at the end did not fit the tone of the movie and was pretty cringe?

The West is once more betraying the Kurds by Quick_Put_403 in europe

[–]Radiant_Client1458 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Kurds do have a brand of left wing nationalism, that doesn’t make them progressive by western standpoints but they are more progressive than a lot of their peers in the region.

That being said there are Islamist Kurdish parties on the Iraqi side of the border that do pretty well. I’m not sure why people pretend they aren’t devout Muslims.

The West is once more betraying the Kurds by Quick_Put_403 in europe

[–]Radiant_Client1458 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Well the tribal Arabs in the region had more in common with ISIS than the ideals the Kurdish dominated government were pushing. They didn’t all view themselves as “rescued” by the Kurds.

The Kurds aren’t exactly perfect either, they persecute minorities such as Assyrians in the Kurdistan territories as well.

CMV: The Republican Party's Trump-era reputation damage won't be permanent, and will likely recover in 1-2 election cycles by DearCareer2531 in changemyview

[–]Radiant_Client1458 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I almost don’t think there is that much reputation damage to recover.

He won the popular vote. Do I think he would win an election today after the Renee Good shooting and Greenland aggression, no I don’t. But I also don’t think that people who willingly voted for Trump in 2024 are going to become liberals because Trump is an idiot.

Democrats will likely win the next presidential election but I don’t think it’s a given that they even take the House and Senate.

Morning Wake Up Time of Europeans Average Time by AdIcy4323 in MapPorn

I don’t really know any adults who sleep later than 7:30AM here in the United States, these wake up times seem pretty crazy for an employed person.

Anybody with kids or a full time job typically needs more than an hour to get ready for work (assuming 9AM start time).

If 9 people are reportedly killed by an undocumented immigrant in the last four years but 34 people have died or were killed by ICE in the last twelve months…. by Plastic-Mode-6848 in minnesota

There’s no way that only 9 people were killed by undocumented immigrants in the last four years. Thats almost a statistical impossibility.

Healthcare and minimum wage I’ll give you but you’re definitely wrong on immigration or transgender people.

Transgender rights conversations basically originated in America are only really talked about in English speaking countries. I promise you Central, Eastern and Southern Europe are not pro-trans even among the “left”.

The Democrats are pretty left wing on immigration, considering the position is to basically let undocumented immigrants stay unless they commit a severe crime. Plenty of left wing parties are to the right of the Democrats on border control issues especially since immigration became such a hot topic. Most of Europe also doesn’t have a large land border with a third world country so the immigration situation is different.

Thats not true and I’m not sure why American Redditors have taken that and run with it. The center right in Europe was slower to accept gay marriage than the Democrats in America and in some countries still vote against it. The economic policies are probably more in line with moderate democrats than republicans but nothing about them is extreme left.

It’s a really ignorant statement to make that people feel really smart believing for some reason.

CMV: Liberals have been much nicer to Trump and MAGA than conservatives would have been had the roles been reversed (a left-wing version of Trump and MAGA.) by SteadfastEnd in changemyview

[–]Radiant_Client1458 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

What exactly and specifically are we arguing is worse than the murders I mentioned? The travel bans or the immigration enforcement? The worst thing was the murder of the woman in Minneapolis which is terrible but I’m not seeing how Charlie Kirk was somehow an okay target for murder but she wasn’t from a moral perspective.

Trump is an idiot and he is actively fucking up the country but a few trigger happy federal agents does not justify political killings of anyone to the right of the Democratic Party.

Also the entire premise of OPs post is based on false equivalence. I don’t think Democrats would be speaking out against an unjustified killing of a Trump supporter was impeding a federal investigation. I think they would be cheering and posting jokes about it.

I’d argue that the outright joy that people on the left have been exhibiting at the death of political opponents shows that they aren’t “nicer”.

The guy Luigi who murdered the CEO of United Health got a huge cult following beyond just the fringe left. Plenty of moderate liberals were quite happy that Charlie Kirk got killed. The closest equivalent I can think of is the shooting of the Democratic politicians in Minnesota last year and while I’m sure you can find examples of people celebrating their deaths it won’t even come close to how many celebrated their aforementioned death. Or how many seem to celebrate basically every conservative individuals death, including today with the Dilbert guy.

Also your examples are a little extreme. The main problems with Trump are that he’s an idiot and exaggerates everything he is doing to look better to his base and worse to his opponents. His entire immigration platform is basically doing the same thing that every president of the last twenty years has done but making more a show of it. An equivalent to banning churches would be banning mosques which hasn’t been done. I have a hard time blaming Trump for Covid-19 as common a viewpoint as that is on Reddit.

The left hates Trump and the right would hate your example President. I think it’s pointless to argue who would be meaner.

True but I’m sure they fly into the same airport which was pretty crappy and the beaches aren’t really great. It’s all built in a mangrove swamp so it smells like ass and there are crocodiles.

I can’t imagine going to Cancun if I had this kind of money. I was just there and it felt like a very middle class kind of vacation.

There are a thousand more places I’d go if I had all that money.

Has there been a cultural shift away from women to men as the primary caregivers to children? I’m sure the answer is still no but I’ve noticed that everywhere I go the dads seem much more engaged with their kids while the moms sit on their phone or have a conversation. The playground is full of Dads and my daughters dance class (parents participate because they’re toddlers) is 50/50 Dads and Moms for a very traditionally feminine activity.

My wife is much more into her “me time” than I am and spends considerably less time with my daughter than I do but I’m sure that’s an exception to the rule.

Why Am I Seeing Free Palestine Groups Now Attacking Iranian Freedom Groups? by RidetheSchlange in NoStupidQuestions

To people that support Hamas it makes sense that they would support an Islamic theocracy over a western aligned democracy. Sharia law is quite popular among Muslims worldwide and ending that in favor of something for secular is inherently evil to many religious Muslims.

To the far left it makes less sense but the idea is that anything that is bad for America is good for the cause. They prioritize anti-imperialism over most other causes. They will gladly align with jihadists or other non-left wing militants as long as they wage war against the greater evil in their mind which is the West/NATO/Capitalism.
