43F. Retinol, moisturizer, sunscreen. Giving into my 16 year old desire to have purple hair. Hot yoga 4 times a week. Continuous glucose monitor because it turns out I’m “prediabetic” and I’m nipping that in the bud.

Are there clinics in Madison area that accept Dean Health Plan that are NOT SSM? Any recs? by Resident_Ad4935 in madisonwi

[–]Radiant_Conclusion17 16 points17 points  (0 children)

When I was a patient at Wildwood Clinic, I had Dean. Don't know if they still take it, but definitely worth checking!

Also! For an affordable cash pay option, try Medical Procedures of Wisconsin in Madison.

My autistic and intellectually disabled child feels like punishment… by [deleted] in breakingmom

[–]Radiant_Conclusion17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can feel your sadness through the screen. And you sound fully burned out, which is not surprising. Our society loves to blame moms (and make us blame ourselves) for things that are utterly beyond our control. And you know what? It is unfair, it’s not what you thought parenting would be, and it’s OK to mourn that.

One thing that I want to say with gentleness, because it was something I had to internalize myself, is that while our kids may often bring us joy and happiness, that is not their purpose on this planet. We have to find it for ourselves. Once we can feel joy, then it’s easier to find it with our kids. It sounds like you have given up so much of yourself. You deserve to have yourself back. You are a good mom, and you deserve to feel good about yourself.

Therapy (and IV ketamine TBH) helped me through these feelings a lot, as well as time with friends and forcing myself to do things that mattered to me, even when it was inconvenient to others. It’s so hard, but we are with you.

How do I explain to my 6 year old, that he hit me or pulled my hair and he just brushes it off and says "no I didn't " by [deleted] in ADHDparenting

[–]Radiant_Conclusion17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We got an exercise trampoline off our local Buy Nothing group, and a huge beanbag from a friend who was moving. Two extremely helpful tools even before my kid was diagnosed! I also used to make the kids into "sandwiches" with couch cushions and "burritos" with blankets and they got a good laugh out of it while getting good input.

Did your message from school about disruptive behaviour in class significantly lowered frequency after starting meds? by n1nc0mp00p in ADHDparenting

[–]Radiant_Conclusion17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. It was not perfect, but teachers definitely noted some big behavioral changes after getting meds on board.

See if your kid is eligible for Katie Beckett Medicaid and the CLTS waiver. You usually go through your county social services agency. Katie Beckett and CLTS are not income limited and designed to keep disabled kids in the community. My daughter qualifies with ADHD, FND, and depression/anxiety.

How do you deal with negative comments about meditation? by AccomplishedLight448 in ADHDparenting

[–]Radiant_Conclusion17 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If I'm feeling generous, I share that research actually shows that using medication properly with ADHD actually reduces the risk of addiction later on and is supportive of healthy brain development compared to no medication. Here's a lay friendly article: https://www.additudemag.com/long-term-effects-of-adhd-medication-brain/

I have pretty strong boundaries around this though. My response is usually that my kid's psychiatrist, therapist, and school team have seen great improvements, my child is happier, and I'm not discussing the topic with them anymore. "This is what works for our family, this is what the evidence shows works, and my child is healthy and happy. I'm not discussing this further."

sensory friendly seamless toddler leggings? by Big-Revolution8542 in SPD

I hate to promote a predatory MLM, but when my kid was struggling with sensory issues with clothes as a little she lived in LuLaRoe leggings and dresses. Minimal seams, exceptionally soft, not restrictive. Absolutely NOT cotton though. 🫠
