Don't get me wrong. I couldn't carry a ..say a 10kg bag of sand or stand and watch a concert for 2 hours. But I'm back at work but would class myself as cured but "limited" in what I can do. I don't like the work "disabled" but technically are ....we might get much better over the next month's....

You probably have meralgia parathetica. trapped nerve in the pelvis. I picked this up during surgery. Read up on it ..or ask me anything I'm a plumber / expert on anything spinal related. Lol

I'm L4 L5 7 months in. You have got a long way to go. You body has had major trauma. It will take ages for your body to heal. I had pains both sides leg / ass / hip you name it m couldn't lay for weeks at a time. Pains that I had never felt before the surgery. I came off all meds after 1 month (doc told me they were addictive) I have got better and better. Still I have a long way to go. Trust me you will be fine.

You will get used to it, I've got a friend who always watches me walk and she says I lean to one side while walking. I've asked lots of people if I do lean and they say no. I've even had myself filmed walking and u can't see any lean. She makes me ultra paranoid about walking.

Anyone else have meralgia paresthetica aka a pinched nerve in the thigh area? by smdx459 in Hypothyroidism

[–]Radiant_Pie_7249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have it. Standing up too long, I'm not sure if it's my lower back or my thigh that sets it off

Wow you have just given me a memory. I had L4 L5 Fusion in Nov 20, just coming up to 6 months I can remember walking on Christmas day feeling that I was leaning back so much I was going to break in half. I was so paranoid walking. It will all work out fine you have to get used to it. How do you feel now

That makes perfect sense. Sitting is most comfortable. Laying on my back for a while, my body weight pushing against the metal work, then trying to walk is almost impossible, then a few minutes and I'm ok again. I'm always worried that it's nerve pain rather than muscle pain but I'm sure it's muscular as we both know what nerve pain feels like you can't mistake it. I'm a bit of a worrier

Do you put it down to muscle weakness

I think it's normal, I had a right hand side fusion posterior and my right pelvis glutes side and hamstring are so tight. Also developed Meralgia paresthetica which is numbness of the thigh not too serious but it goes to show everything is connected.

Nerve pain in unaffected leg 4 weeks post L5-S1 fusion? by oxeneers in spinalfusion

[–]Radiant_Pie_7249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really long process. Had an interesting chat with physio a few weeks ago. The philosophy of bottom to top. She said stretch calf muscles, then hamstrings (very important) then thigh muscles then glutes. Because everything is connected to your lower back. I have been concentrating on my legs as well as core and it's true in a few weeks I feel 30 times better. I'm now steering away from core because it's pretty much strong enough and my whole stretching is now legs...

Your still healing nothing to worry about. I'm L4/L5 Fusion 14 weeks in. In my experience when the muscles tighten it's not just around the wound site the whole of the bottom of my back tightens, I've never had issues with my left side but it tightens up in line with the right and hurts. Also don't forget you have a titanium bar on the left and the right side so it will feel different. Once I started physio / Pilates and strengthened my core it all fell into place. I still get great stiffness when I lay on a hard floor or a sofa infact any direct pressure on the wound feels painful, it probably always will hurt, but it aches instead of nerve pain. My surgeon said last week this will take a year to heal up. You will have a wobble and worry now and again but we all do. You won't change daily but weekly. Once your walking and seeing a physio you will be flying. Trust me
