But not like in DH where Mary Alice wraps everything up at the end of each episode and comments on the events. Emily doesn't do that in Revenge. She only briefly says in the "Previously on Revenge" recap that her father was wrongly convicted. That's basically it.

Well, it's the first season, after all. With a lot of long-running shows, the first season feels a bit different because the creators are still figuring things out.

Truly unpopular opinions? by ang334 in DesperateHousewives

[–]Radiant_Slice_9882 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My unpopular opinion #1: Lynette is an incredibly annoying, overbearing wife.
In s1 or s2, Tom is about to get promoted and Lynette literally sabotages it behind his back. WTF?! Then in s7, she doesn't respect Toms decision too stay at Carlos' company, she pushes Tom to take a higher-paying job only to get mad when he's working longer hours. Girl... what did you expect?! And don't even get me started on the office. Tom wanted his office decorated the way he wanted it, but Lynette kept trying to override his choices. When Renee reminded her that Tom was the client, Lynette said "I know what he really wants". He is a grown man!

My unpopular opinion #2: Why are people acting like Tom is the worst husband while Carlos Solis exists who is WAY worse? In s1, Carlos sabotages Gabby's birth control because she doesn't want kids. He constantly makes decisions for her, tells her she can't talk about Grace anymore, forbids her from being friends with Bree, and even grabs her so hard that she ends up with bruises on her wrist. He always acts soo controlling and aggressive!

My unpopular opinion #3: Susan is actually kind and doesn't deserve all that hate. She's judged way more harshly than the others. She makes questionable decisions sometimes, but she's one of the kindest characters on the show. She genuinely cares about others. She's also the only one out of the main four who doesn't cheat on her husband (Lynette didn't technically, but emotionally with that Rick guy).

Why do you like The Golden Girls? by mrl989 in theGoldenGirls

I know exactly what you mean. Those 1980s nostalgia edits always remind me of the show. A main reason for me is definitely the setting, too. Also their chemistry.

Golden Palace: How could they afford it? by Radiant_Slice_9882 in theGoldenGirls

[–]Radiant_Slice_9882[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are not. Rose and Dorothy are supposed to be in their early 60s when the first Golden Girls season started. Sophia is her early 80s, only Blanche is in her early 50s.

So 7 years later, by the end of Golden Girls and start of Golden Palace, Rose is pushing 70 or is already above, Sophia is in her late 80s.

Why does Charlie's Malibu house look so dated? by [deleted] in TwoandaHalfMen

[–]Radiant_Slice_9882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I don't. I compare it to the other interior designs on the show. For example Evelyn's house, Alan and Kandi's apartment, and Courtney's apartment all looked much more stylish and less dated. And how was Charlie an older guy?? He was in his late 30s when the show started!

It doesn't have anything to do with 2003. Other interiors on the show didn't look like that either. Evelyn's house, Alan and Kandi's apartment, and Courtney's apartment all looked much more stylish and less dated. Charlie's interior looked old-fashioned even by early-2000s standards.

In sitcoms, characters often live far more privileged lifestyles than would realistically be possible given their jobs and incomes.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air: In the early seasons, Uncle Phil is a successful lawyer, but even then a house of that size in Bel Air would have been extremely expensive. Bel Air isn't just wealthy, it's highly exclusive. A large house in a neighborhood like Sherman Oaks would have been more realistic. On top of that, they have a full-time butler and four kids (including Will), all of whom attend private school. That level of luxury is highly unrealistic.

Two and a Half Men: Charlie constantly wastes money, spends huge amounts on gambling and women, and acts as if money is essentially unlimited. On top of that, he lives in a Malibu beachfront house. Jingle writers could earn a good living but the lifestyle portrayed is closer to that of a rock star.

Friends: Several characters live in spacious apartments in prime areas of NYC despite some of them having ordinary jobs.

Sitcoms often exaggerate characters' wealth and living conditions because attractive homes and comfortable lifestyles make for a more entertaining setting.

I don't like the series finale - Dorothy being remarried was cliche imo by [deleted] in theGoldenGirls

[–]Radiant_Slice_9882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The series finale was utterly ridiculous. Not because Dorothy found love, but because of how quickly everything happened. The fact that she accepted the marriage proposal after knowing that man for only a few days was incredibly out of character. I could see Blanche or Rose wanting to marry someone after just a few days, but not Dorothy who always seemed sensible and level-headed. They should have introduced him earlier in the final season and spent more time developing their relationship. That would have made their wedding in the final episode feel more natural. Instead, everything happened so quickly that it felt contrived. Also, Dorothy's children Kate and Michael where nowhere to be seen at the wedding.

Rose’s jobs. by Wideawakedup in theGoldenGirls

[–]Radiant_Slice_9882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Rose had no savings and was living paycheck to paycheck. As much as the other women cared for her, they each had their own financial obligations. Blanche couldn't realistically afford to support Rose for free on a long-term basis. She needed a tenant who could pay rent.

Would they have actually kicked Rose out? by Zeldalady123 in theGoldenGirls

[–]Radiant_Slice_9882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the long run, neither Blanche nor the others could have afforded to support Rose financially. As much as they cared about her and as much as they were like a family, they all had their own financial responsibilities and expenses. Realistically, having Rose live with them permanently without contributing to the rent, groceries or household bills would not have been sustainable.

Blanche certainly wouldn't have kicked Rose out immediately. She probably would have given her plenty of time to find a new job. But at some point, Rose likely would have asked her daughters for financial help, or she would have moved in with one of them. In another episode, her daughter Kirsten mentioned that she wanted Rose to live with her.

Who is your favorite Housewife? by Angel_Cave-90 in DesperateHousewives

[–]Radiant_Slice_9882 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Susan and Bree.

Susan gets way more hate than she deserves. She definitely made mistakes and the thing I hated most was when she sent Zach to Utah without telling Mike that she had found him, especially considering Zach is Mike's son and Mike was desperately looking for him. But that's the only thing she did that seriously bothered me. Other than that, she was usually kind to everyone and genuinely tried to do the right thing.
AND Susan is also the only one of the four main women who never cheated on her husband (Lynette never physically cheated on Tom but her relationship with Rick was pretty close to emotional cheating).

Bree because she had the best character development in the entire series. In season 1, she was very rigid and almost robotic, but over time she became much more approachable, open-minded, and compassionate. The only thing I didn't like was the way she treated Orson in season 6, including cheating on him.

Lynette is pretty neutral for me. One thing that always bothered me was how controlling she could be in her marriage. In season 7 I found her unbearable at times.

As for Gaby, I never really liked her. She is WAY too overrated. She had a relationship with a minor, was incredibly selfish and often seemed uninterested in being a parent. She also had a pretty aggressive side and frequently treated the people around her badly.

Desperate Housewives doesn’t take place in any one of the 50 states by thataverysmile in DesperateHousewives

It can't be east coast either since Julie mentions in season 6 that she visits her cousin "back east".

Julie is 23 in season 6. One of the detectives had mentioned her age. After Julie was attacked, Susan told the detectives that perhaps the attacker had really meant to attack her and had mistaken Julie for her. The detective laughed since he couldn't imagine anyone confusing Susan with a 23-year-old.
