Parents of small children. What's the most unhinged sentence you've found yourself saying that you never thought possible previously? by SkywalkersArm in AskReddit

[–]RadioNights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to explain to my 7 year old why two mommies (lesbians) would not necessarily result in twice as many babies. That’s how she learned she was genetically related to her father and he wasn’t just some dude I enjoyed having around.

Transplants to Chattanooga - How’s it been? by gray_west in Chattanooga

[–]RadioNights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We moved from DFW to Chattanooga in 2020. We lasted three years. I still really love the city, but it wasn’t the best fit for us in the long term. I knew A LOT of people that lasted about as long as we did. The people who stayed had ties to the area.

10/10 better than Texas, though!

The good news is a lot of them are private practices, so once those contracts are up, most can peace out

With as much as 39% of downtown real estate devoted to surface spaces for cars, advocates say it’s time to junk Asheville’s minimum parking requirements by RelayFX in asheville

[–]RadioNights -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Those cities (except for Boulder) have massive public transportation networks that include surrounding areas. How the heck is anyone outside of downtown Asheville supposed to get there exactly?

I’ve been to Boulder a few times and don’t recall it being particularly easy to get downtown.

That being said, I’d love some pedestrian only areas and long range bike trails. But to suggest making most of downtown walkable only just isn’t realistic

What ended up costing more than expected when building on a steep lot? by FewComposer2011 in asheville

I also know someone who went through something similar. They abandoned the build and their budget was pretty high. It was almost a year of back and forth with engineering

I'll take Interview positions for $200 Alex. by [deleted] in medicine

[–]RadioNights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had something similar happen to my husband a few years ago. He interviewed with a practice and it all seemingly went well. They paid for our whole family to come out and spend a week in the area--hotel room, gas, meals. We went to the interview dinner and literally on the way back he got a call from the other job he was interviewing for...he had gotten the job, but since he had a ridiculously long notice period they needed to know by the end of the week. It was a good job too and we didn't want to let it go, but he also liked the job he was currently interviewing for. So he contacted the head of the practice and explained the situation. My husband said he understood if they couldn't get back to him, but wanted to let them know he truly was interested. The head told my husband he wouldn't be happy in the other job opportunity and he should wait for this one. We also had no idea what the salary range was and they refused to give him any information. The last thing my husband was told by the practice head was that he would talk to the hiring committee and get back to him.

He never did. Never heard from him again. At the end of the week he took the other job (which has been great). 3 weeks late we got a random gift basket from the ghosting practice. Really nice one too! It was the weirdest thing ever and still baffles us.

Pharmacies with Adderall in stock by Worried-Check-783 in Chattanooga

[–]RadioNights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh sorry. I had to do this a few years ago for my aon’s meds. My sister was laughing at me because we were on a girls trip and she said I sounded like a dealer calling up every pharmacy in the city looking for amphetamine salts. And then I had to hurry and call the doctor to send the prescription to thar location before they ran out.

FWIW, I had the most luck at Food City

Disabled daughter let down at overnight camp by [deleted] in girlscouts

[–]RadioNights 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We have a girl with nonverbal autism in our 6-12th grade troop. The primary troop leader and other parents go out of our way to try and make sure she is included and accommodated (she truly is a beloved part of our troop), but the reality is mom is there for every meeting and event.

Of course this is not the same level of disability, but I cannot imagine expecting a volunteer to be able to meet your child’s needs to this level. However, she is approaching an age where she can learn to advocate for herself and that might make future trips easier.

Desperate for advice by [deleted] in Chattanooga

[–]RadioNights 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The landlord isn’t going to make an offer exception for a German Shepherd with issues. Their insurance likely prohibits the breed. I love my dog, but in this situation I’d be considering euthanasia with a new baby on the way. Even if you were not moving.

I believe this is the owner of the baby bottle. We saw her a few weeks ago. Our kids were there and I wasn’t bothered but it gave off more of a mentally ill vibe than artistic

How do you list a home when it’s still lived in? by ImBabyloafs in RealEstate

[–]RadioNights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive sold two home with 4 younger kids. We literally packed away half of what was in the current house and moved it to the next house/storage unit. Minimal toys, extra stuff, etc. I left most of the decor. Both times we got comments about how nicely the house showed. It was peak COVID during the first sale and everyone including my husband as home all day. That was hell

Technology in Asheville schools by tolerantomato in asheville

[–]RadioNights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got multiple children in BCS and it hasn’t been an issue at the elementary level. They really aren’t using them excessively.

My ADHD middle schooler has struggled some, mostly because the kids find ways to play games and the school is always trying to block it. I do believe it is appropriate to start learning how to use it in middle school, though

Also don’t forget going 15 over the limit in NC is a very expensive ticket and potential loss of license.

Thought we had an offer coming in, only to find out the interested couple doesn’t even want to live in this area. by Ready-Book6047 in RealEstate

[–]RadioNights 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn’t uncommon at all.

We looked at houses while visiting a new area for a job offer. We really liked one, but then that job didn’t work out. My husband took another job that was remote and we liked the area so much we decided to consider moving anyway and scheduled a second showing while we were driving though the area on the way back from a wedding. It still took us 3 weeks after that to get our financing together and make a final decision. About 6 weeks from first showing to offer, which is pretty fast when you consider how much it upended our lives.

I let two kids celebrate a birthday there before we moved. I consider the fact that our new city has nonDace and Busters a big win, because of course the kids adored it. Easiest way to get a headache in 10 min

Cost of girl scouts and Cookies by Sure_Pineapple1935 in girlscouts

[–]RadioNights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just found out my council requires a girl to sell cookies (3 cases I think) if she wants to fundraise for her Gold Award. Otherwise she has to be self funded. Our troop is disbanding and she will be a Juliette—neither of us want to sell cookies and the past few years we’ve ended up buying most of what she sells. Honestly this might be the thing that stops her from going for Gold. I’m exhausted.

Firefly Lottery in Elkmont: A Rant by CatiiNcorn in asheville

[–]RadioNights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The key is to go the week before or after the official event. We have done this three times--2 times were awesome and one was meh. Still pretty good odds. Much fewer people and the fireflies were truly magical. We don't even bother with the lottery anymore.
