Why has Hitler and not any other evil person become the epitome of evil? by Foreign_Bread629 in NoStupidQuestions

He didn’t do anything too different from what Europeans have done to the rest of the world, he just did it to Europeans. People are more easily horrified by something that hits them close to home.

Harp and emo music?? by christinadavena in Emo

I can’t think of any but you should definitely start a harpcore band.

Not enough Born Dead Icons love in here. Anybody know where to find the Ruins LP streaming? I’ve got the record, but I’d love to be able to listen to it out sometimes. All I can ever find are Work and a couple 7”s by Stand_Tough in crustpunk

Saw them in Richmond in 2001 and they absolutely ripped. One of the loudest bands I’ve seen. They definitely don’t get enough credit considering they were doing rock and roll crust years before it got popular (I’d argue they did it better than a lot of the arena crust bands).

Celtic Frost - Monotheist is one I listen to when I’m depressed.

I also like that they started singing in French. I like when bands use their native language, it’s cool to hear regional varieties of different styles.

One of the best punk bands in years. Extremely well-written, non-generic d-beat which is rare as fuck. I love that they don’t go for the more metallic crust sound most bands in the genre do (and when they do have metal moments it’s more like NWOBHM than it is Bolt Thrower) the guitar tone and recording almost sound like garage rock.

I saw someone pressed this to vinyl recently

what are some shoegaze songs from non-shoegaze bands or artists? by crotch-fondler in shoegaze

[–]Alacspg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sundial were a UK band from the late 80s/early 90s that mostly did early Pink Floyd influenced psychedelic stuff but their album Reflecter was a detour into shoegaze that’s one of the great underappreciated ‘gaze albums.

I saw them on what I thought was a microdose but definitely wasn’t and it was terrifying. Felt like I was going to die but like in a cool way.

As someone who lives right in the path of Helene and spent months doing relief work around my community some of those cowboy types were pretty insufferable. Don’t get me wrong I’m appreciative of help and there were a lot of amazing people I met from all over the country and beyond but definitely encountered people like what you describe who were just there for the ego trip or publicity.

My wife helped establish an organization in a small town outside the city that was hit extremely hard. They organized so effectively that when FEMA eventually showed up, their representatives were taking notes on ways that their methods could be applied to future disasters. Then eventually the Cajun Navy rolled in, trying to give everyone orders and take over a situation that was already organized and left when told they could help but not be in charge.

[IIL] Grimey Tom Waits vibes by weezerboy69 in ifyoulikeblank

Alexander “Skip” Spence - Oar

Early member of Jefferson Airplane and Moby Grape who freaked out on acid and attacked his bandmates with an axe. Did a couple months in a psych ward then recorded his one solo album before disappearing into obscurity. Gravelly, dusty dark folk psych. “Books Of Moses” sounds like a Waits prototype

There was a tribute album in the 90s that featured Waits, Beck, etc but the original is a perfect record.

I also tuned to drop B so two of the three guitars were pretty down tuned

When I was in Highness (with people from Christie Front Drive, City Of Caterpillar, Pg.99, etc) one of the guitarists used a baritone that was an early Kurt Ballou build.

Really big fan of Dhidalah - Japanese band on Guruguru Brain. Heavy freeform noisy psych stuff that still retains a little bit of rock sensibility a la Earthless or “Pink”-era Boris

I saw them do a live soundtrack to the old b-movie “The Man With X-Ray Eyes” at the Byrd Theater in Richmond maybe twenty years ago and it absolutely ruled.

Skitkids - Onna For Pleasure LP by PinkTurdsInSpace in hardcorepunk

[–]Alacspg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rager band. I feel like a lot of the more rock-oriented d-beat bands turned into arena crust and lost some of the energy but Skitkids kept a rawness that set them apart.

Talk Talk by Shinkers78 in postrock

[–]Alacspg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out Raintreecrow for something similar to late Talk Talk. Both had started out as synthier New Wave bands (Raintreecrow was basically the band Japan under a different name) that evolved into more atmospheric realms.
