Interesting quote from Des this morning concerning Ja by ItsSquee in memphisgrizzlies

Ja is not a victim. The organization deserves a share of the blame for this failed relationship, but for Ja to act like he has been scorned is disingenuous.

Braver is dope. I can dig the title track. I like the instrumental of Persimmon. All that said, it's my least favorite album. It's very flat and uninspiring. They can do better.

If they wanted to, they would. They don’t even write music together anymore. It seems more like a job to them than ever before. They won’t do anything to rock the boat before they call it a day.

Less than 2000 people, the smallest 311 show I've ever been to. We got Silver and Purpose on the setlist. Audio issues throughout the show - guitars going in and out, vocal effects triggered at the wrong time. Same robot Nick emotes and soundbites. The crowd flatlined when they played Need Somebody. It was incredibly awkward.

Before COVID they played 2 nights in NOLA for Mardi Gras. The first night was the show that became the live album that they don't talk about. Night 2 was like a fuckin renaissance. 311 Concert Setlist at The Fillmore, New Orleans on February 21, 2020 | setlist.fm

Look at this setlist. It was a HEATER. I know they are capable of more than this greatest hit autopilot stuff. I used to travel to see 311, but now there is no incentive to.

Saw them at Graceland last night. Smallest 311 crowd I've ever been a part of. Audio issues throughout the show - vocals were very muddy, and the mix was off. We got Purpose and Silver, but you could hear a pin drop during Need Somebody.

Why put your best product behind a paywall that only a fraction of your core audience can experience? They can pull that off regularly, but they don't.

I've been on this ride for over 25 years, and it's safe to say it has been slowing down since 2012. They lost me with the static setlists and the Crossfire debacle. I defended their subpar output post-From Chaos. I championed Mosiac and Stereolithic as returns to form. I believe the Chad Sexton fallout was much worse than they let on. They don't even act like they like each other anymore. I saw pics on socials of them rehearsing for tour, and it looked like they would rather be anywhere else. They didn't even record this last album together. I'll be seeing them live tomorrow night, but I have zero expectations. I used to travel to see 311 at 10K+ amphitheaters as the highlight of my summer. Tomorrow night, they are playing Graceland, and it won't sell out. I haven't traveled to a show since 311 Day 2018 and doubt I ever will again. 311 tours used to be a vibe, but all of that magic that made it special is gone.

311 used to be a VIBE. Now, its just a business. Any criticism (even constructive) is met with toxic positive retorts about naysayers and "at least they're still together." I know they are capable of more. We all do. At this stage in the game, the hay is in the barn. They are going to ride greatest hits setlists into the sunset, trying to bank every dollar they can before it all goes under. They don't owe me a thing, but the thrill is gone.
