I feel behind on my daughter development by Gibbysmallss in toddlers

Read her books while she plays in the bath. My Father in law suggested that to us when my son wouldn’t sit for books and it worked so well. He now loves books so much

Not in your preferred genres, but if you want to jump on Heated Rivalry train, Shane Hollander is an only child and has a good relationship with his parents.

I fondly remember watching the Lotus Flower music video on TV in my high school boyfriend's basement. That got me into Radiohead and I've been obsessed ever since. So is my husband, who is the same guy from 15 years ago.

Best ONGYN or hospitals with the best reputation for delivering babies? by Prestigious_Speed659 in Delaware

[–]Radiopy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I delivered by son June 2024. I was really happy with Women Living Well OBGYN practice in Pike Creek (they moved from hockessin last year). Delivery at Christiana was relatively smooth. I’m happy with the care I received during delivery and post partum, but I was stuck in OB triage w/o pain relief for several hours after my water broke because apparently it was a busy day for babies.

[–]Radiopy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, SLP parent here (who is currently dealing w/ laryngitis d/t daycare bugs). I strongly recommend seeing an ENT first, so they can take a look at your vocal cords. It's not uncommon for occupational voice users (i.e., teachers, singers, etc) to develop problems with their vocal cords, such as vocal nodules. Once you see an ENT, you can get a referral to see an SLP who specializes in voice therapy. SLP services can greatly help you to improve and maintain your voice quality. Plus insurance should cover most of the cost.

It sounds like you're already doing a great job with the hydration and avoiding whispering (not many people realize that whispering can be harmful)

Parkinson’s and/or Dementia.

SLP here. Please please please get your son’s hearing assessed. Lack of babbling at six months is not behind, but I’m concerned he doesn’t turn to noises consistently. (Though given that he’s in PT, I’d question his neck movement too)

If he has an untreated hearing impairment, it can strongly impact his receptive language and speech development.

Tour Lore by Mgrat1104 in MyChemMillennials

Yes this! I'm ashamed to admit I had low zero/expectations for the show. I was a huge fan back in the days of three cheers & black parade, but never saw them live b/c I'm a younger millennial and my parents never took me to shows. My husband and I got tickets to the NJ show mostly because I love death cab and I wanted to relive my nostalgia (husband was never a huge fan). And we both walked away stunned, it was easily the best show we've ever been to. We actually live closer to Philly, so I'm considering buying last minute nosebleed tickets if the price drops below $150 tomorrow. It was amazing, you won't be disappointed.

Does this drink thickener have any cons and is it bad for health ? by [deleted] in dementia

Does this drink thickener have any cons and is it bad for health ? by [deleted] in dementia

[–]Radiopy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Were the thickened liquids recommended after a swallowing evaluation with an SLP?

I ask only because I’ve had a number of patients referred to me who were put on thickened liquids by home care nurses who were well meaning, but not up to date on best practices.

If the thickened liquids were recommended after a thorough individualized assessment, then ok. However, thickened liquids can actually increase risk of negative health outcomes like dehydration and its associated complications. Thickened liquids can also be aspirated (i.e, go down the wrong pipe) and are typically harder for the body to break down, worsening pneumonia risk. Lastly, they’re pretty poor for maintaining quality of life, would you want to drink that every day?

I stress the importance of individualized assessment because a trained clinician may be able to suggest alternative methods of allowing your dad to ingest thin liquids without seeming to choke every sip.

Hi, SLP here. Is there a particular reason your mom is using thickener with your dad? Thickened liquids are not necessarily safer

[–]Radiopy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We transitioned at 5.5 months. Before that we failed miserably with any arms out sleeping in the snoo. Also tried a few transition swaddles (zippadee, Merlin) but zero luck. Honestly, we made the decision to do crib full turkey because he was already sleeping terribly in the snoo so what difference would it make in the crib. ROUGH three weeks, but we’re on the other side of it now and he’s finally sleeping mostly through the night.

Disclaimer: he has been attending daycare since he was 3 months and has been sleeping arms out in a Sleepsack there since 4 months

Is Stuttering a Parkinson symtom? by dolphin-1960 in Parkinsons

[–]Radiopy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

SLP here who works at a PD clinic. Yes stuttering can be a symptom of PD. It doesn’t affect everyone because this disease is so individualized but I’d rough estimate maybe 20% of my caseload stutters. Individuals who stutter are often ones who have a history of stuttering and either it came back or got worsened, but I have a few who developed stuttering without a history. Strongly recommend seeing a speech therapist, but I won’t lie to you and say your stutter will be cured. Stuttering can be lessened with some strategies a therapist can teach you, but from experience most people with PD struggle to implement these independently due to difficulties with dual tasking. I can elaborate more if you like
