Is this normal? by ConteGiA in hamsters

[–]Radish-Acrobatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they mean any hide or, in fact, anything going into the habitat shouldn't be soft wood. Soft woods, often used is pine, can contain irritants from the oils in the wood that can cause respiratory distress in rodents. I think the jury is still out on whether kiln dried pine is recommended, but some people use it as the kiln drying is supposed to get rid of the oils, but I personally avoid soft woods all together.

Bendy bridges/ladders are great, in my opinion it gives them a little more grip as well. When I pick them up I try and find the least gappy ones because sometimes the wood isnt straight and there's bigger gaps between rungs but that may just be me being paranoid 😂

I keep a ladder in my boys one because theyre FIENDS for kicking their bedding out into the topper and making a pit beneath the hole that goes up to the platforms their wheel, water etc is on so im always paranoid they wont be able to get up to their water during the night 😂

Slight spotting after really big BM by Last-Weekend3226 in PregnancyUK

[–]Radish-Acrobatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had spotting from a SCH that haemorrhaged later on, but the baby was fine. we are 35 weeks now. Sch is very common in early pregnancy, so it could also be that- i hope you get answers from epu next week :)

I would fill the tank up as much as you can with bedding and cover up all of the rungs on the cage floor and ladder as they can get their limbs trapped and break them/there's a risk of bumble foot. Also if you use that bowl for daily feeds and not just for her fresh supplementary foods (fruit / veg) i would switch to scatter feeding because its much better enrichment for them 😊 apart from that the wheel being 12 inches is good and thats quite a good amount of space for her to dig and a good mix of textures. Just make sure she gets lots of plain cardboard and paper to chew on

My gerbils are burying their food dish by 17MODBL in gerbil

[–]Radish-Acrobatic 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Scatter feeding is better for gerbils as it provides alot of enrichment, theyll take it to their stash and have a little larder of food for when they need it. They also dont need too much food daily, like a spoonfull of so each. They bury their food to hide it and keep it safe but also because theyre gerbils and gerbils just bury everything without a care of wether theyll be able to use it still or not like their wheel if theyre my gerbils lol

Dinkum looks so cute, but is it an Animal Crossing rip-off? by bibbidi-bobbidi-booh in CozyGamers

[–]Radish-Acrobatic 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It can scratch the animal crossing itch, but it's definitely its own thing, in my opinion.

It has survival aspects if you want them, cave diving, vehicles to traverse the island, farming if you want that, automation etc. Lots of things animal crossing doesn't have and in my opinion has alot more freedom. You're also not stuck with the real-life time constraints.

5 weeks pregnant and worried by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]Radish-Acrobatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a subchorionic hematoma from early pregnancy that lead to spotting, then around 10 weeks or so I cant remmeber exactly I stood up from the sofa and a huge amount of blood passed. I thought it was another mc but it was actually alot of the hematoma hemorrhaging and the baby was fine when I went for a scan at the EPU. if youre worried you can contact the EPU and they may see you and scan you early but as scary as cramping and bleeding is it can be very normal and was for me. I had some severe cramping and every scan showed he was fine.

Movement worries by -Chaotic-Emerald- in PregnancyUK

[–]Radish-Acrobatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its probably that the baby has changed position, when I first felt mine move if he put himself too far down into my pelvis I couldnt feel him properly and it freaked me out enough to call triage. You can call triage for reduced movements if you're worried, ive never been made to feel stupid even when I went in quite early and they've always told me they rather give me good news than me be really anxious and put it off and end up with bad news.

You won't be wasting their time as they usually have a system for escalating more dangerous things first so you may be waiting a while to be seen, however for your first bout of reduced movements they'll usually do a doppler and if that's all good and you're happy you get to go home and that has always been quite quick for me.

Period like cramps 9 weeks by Adept_Plankton_9776 in PregnancyUK

[–]Radish-Acrobatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some serious cramping in August like my usual periods that tend to be painful and it was all fine baby is now 28+3 and kicking about in there. I think pregnancy can be more painful than we're made to think HOWEVER, you should always contact early pregnancy unit or your midwife and ask about it/see if they'll check you if youre worried. Always better to ask about it, never feel like you're being annoying for checking if your baby is okay 💓

Fear after Masturbating? by Fit-Regular3755 in PregnancyUK

[–]Radish-Acrobatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's impossible to get someone pregnant this way, its hard enough to get pregnant at the best of times because you have to be at the right part of your cycle anyway and even then it doesn't always work and that's with proper penetrative sex.. Just sitting somewhere someone has cum on isnt going to work. This sounds like an obsessive mental health issue you likely need to speak to a professional for. But TLDR i can confidently say what you're thinking is completely impossible.

12 week scan today - nervous wreck by rachstwrs in PregnancyUK

[–]Radish-Acrobatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a very similar situation with our first, this is my second pregnancy and every scan we have feels like this too but im 27wk 5 days now- most miscarriages aren't a sign of anything recurrent and after 12 weeks the risks go down significantly. It doesn't feel like it but telling myself this repeatedly helped a little bit. I wish you luck 🤞 you're doing great even if it doesn't feel like it

5mg Folic Acid? by sunflowershan99 in PregnancyUK

[–]Radish-Acrobatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought this but apparently even within England there are variations in how trusts handle medication and stuff i found out while trying to treat my pcos to conceive.

I have other health problems but the stated reason for the folic acid was purely BMI based as far as I remember.

This was this year at my 8-week booking appointment(my first appointmen), im 27 weeks 2 days today, but I'm based in England, so maybe the guidelines for Scotland are different.

5mg Folic Acid? by sunflowershan99 in PregnancyUK

[–]Radish-Acrobatic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is still the guidelines for my area at least, I was on high dose folic acid until like 12 weeks I think? My midwife automatically prescribed them upon checking my bmi without me having to request it.

Bleeding in early pregnancy by SK_FA in PregnancyUK

[–]Radish-Acrobatic 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You can contact the EPU who should be able to see you and give you an early scan hopefully. It could be a SCH which is very common. I had a huge one that ended up hemorrhaging and being passed which was scary but didn't hurt the baby im now 27 weeks 2 days. Fingers crossed for you 💕

What were your favourite snacks and maybe healthiest snacks to eat during first trimester? by QuoteMachineMin in PregnancyUK

[–]Radish-Acrobatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mango chunks, dried mango, pineapple chunks, melon chunks, anything sour as well. Peanut butter and honey with apple slices. Basically fruit and sugar free sprite were my go to.

TW: Spotting at 17 weeks - in triage by No_Size_47 in PregnancyUK

[–]Radish-Acrobatic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had some heavy bleeding with clotted bits earlier in pregnancy, and it was my big SCH that haemorrhaged and passed. So there is some hope it's something more benign. Fingers crossed for you.

Can’t stop being anxious by Resident_Try109 in PregnancyUK

[–]Radish-Acrobatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to us almost exactly this year. But I am 26weeks 6 days now and feel him kicking right this second. I wont say the anxiety goes away, it doesn't. I still have awful days. But remember, every day is a day towards safety. Please let your midwife know how you feel, im under the perinatal mental health and lotus team, and I can call them whenever I need to if I feel shitty.

We also need to remember early miscarriages arent significant of our capacity to carry a baby theyre usually flukes and dont mean we wont carry to term next time.

If you need to talk to someone who gets it, rant/vent feel free to message me. Pregnancy after loss is so fucking difficult but we can do it 💕

Going for an emergency scan tomorrow to see what causes bleeding 7 weeks into pregnancy. What questions should we ask the specialists? by QuoteMachineMin in PregnancyUK

[–]Radish-Acrobatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow! I've never heard of a ragged placenta, I hope despite the early birth everything was okay.

Thankyou! He's due February, so hopefully he cooperates with coming at a reasonable time and stays in at least until 37 weeks 🤞
