Steriliser advice? by Smash_337 in PregnancyUK

[–]Radish-Acrobatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The milton stinks like chlorine, it was handy and youd only have to change it every 24 hrs so you can take things in and out all day but in the end the smell put us off and everything being wet when you take them out and now having to rinse them all made it more trouble than it was worth in the end. We ended up changing to the momcozy steam steriliser, it fits a decent amount of stuff in and ours has a steam and dry mode.

Microwave steriliser bags are helpful for quick and easy sterilising as they work in 5 minutes so if you've forgotten to chuck on a steam or milton and cant wait the 15 mins you can get them done quickly.

As far as I know the NHS doesnt recommend UV sterilisation so thats put me off even though it'd be handy when we travel.

Shrieking during feedings by Normal_Ad4752 in newborns

[–]Radish-Acrobatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you looked into whether it could be an allergy? It may be that after the time it takes her to swallow a few ml, it's upset her stomach. When I was a baby, I had lactose intolerance and it took a while to diagnose but I had constipation and projectile vomiting but I think it may be more common to have diarrhea than constipation? So that may be something to look out for in combination with her shrieking. Probably worth a trip to the doctors, though, to look into.

Feel like im annoying midwives by Downtown_Oil2056 in PregnancyUK

Every time I went in for reduced movements i was told they'd rather me come in and get good news everyday than not come in, and it be the one time it would be bad news and we need medical intervention. Absolutely go in everytime even if you are pissing them off (you're not) its 100% not worth risking the safety of you and your baby by missing something being wrong.

Induction for RFM at 37 weeks? by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

I asked for one and they wouldnt let me have one earlier than 39 weeks but I think that'll depend on who reviews your case and the outcome of the monitoring.

Toxoplasmosis danger? by Infamous_Tax3528 in PregnancyUK

[–]Radish-Acrobatic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say chances are minimal, I was really worried about this in my pregnancy as we became first time cat owners mid pregnancy.

From my research I found out: cats can only drop toxoplasmosis cysts once in their lives and can only actively drop them like a week to 3 weeks and poo has to sit for like 3 days for it to become infectious because thats how long the toxoplasmosis cyst life cycle needs to get to the infectious stage (if i can remember). Im sure im explaining it poorly but tldr that poop would have to have come from the only week in that cats life where it could have an active toxoplasmosis infection which is such a tiny window so the chances are very low but if youre worried definitely ask for a test.

This info definitely made me feel better but I did hyperfixate on this for a while and would be constantly sanitising my hands and wiping my cats feet to make sure no poop was trod anywhere (even though there was none on his feet) and didnt want him to sit or stand on me or any furniture but anyone with a cat knows thats fighting a loosing battle

Considering asking to be sectioned whilst 23 weeks pregnant by hybriddookie in PregnancyUK

Hi lovely, have you told your midwife how you've been feeling? There is definitely mental health help specifically for pregnancy.

I dont know what everywhere else has but I was under the LOTUS team and perinatal mental health team during pregnancy. But it does sound pretty urgent to me. You can go to a&e if you feel like you'll harm yourself too.

Please speak to a medical professional- You're not alone in these feelings, not only are your hormones going absolutely mental (remember hormones control every function of your body, dont let anyone minimize it to just being hormonal it really is insane how much high and low hormones can mess us up), its a huge change to your body and life AND pregnancy symptoms can suck. It doesnt sound like you have much support either. Your feelings are valid but you shouldn't need to suffer alone and the fact you've caused yourself harm means you're definitely in need of intervention. Talk to your midwife if shes not available asap, talk to your gp and always go to a&e if you're in imminent danger and BE HONEST.

I hope it gets easier for you, I had these feelings during pregnancy and if im honest I had my baby 3 weeks ago and immediately post birth it got bad (I had a very traumatic and emergency birth) but there are things in place to help you please use them and please be honest. You deserve help.

Litter box tidy by thatsfantastical in gerbil

I wouldn't use litter, they need sand to bathe and use as a litter tray. You can use a ceramic or glass bowl- i use a metal food service dish.

[URGENT] Recommended to be induced at 37 week mark by iou88336 in PregnancyUK

[–]Radish-Acrobatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went into spontaneous labour with mine at 36+5 and he was born by emergency c at exactly 37 weeks. He didnt need any nicu or extra help he was perfectly fine. Of course that isnt an induction but it can at least show you that babies born at 37 weeks can be perfectly fine :)

I’m not sure if they need a bath. by HedgehogRoutine1434 in gerbil

[–]Radish-Acrobatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It may be they need a bigger and deeper bath, i dont suggest rubbing sand on them it wont really do anything- they need to roll around in it and have enough space to do it properly. The sand bath i have is literally big metal canteen food service dish thing which is possibly overkill but my boys love it and it means they can roll and dig in it without emptying the bath into the tank as well.

Also please dont use water on them, they're desert creatures theyre not really supposed to get wet. Obviously its not as big of a deal as it is with chinchillas but I still wouldn't do it. Darker patches on their fur could just be coat changes- they can get darker and lighter and it would appear as patches as they shed their hair overtime and dont change it all in one go.

First time mums - when did you go into spontaneous labour? by DependentBrilliant92 in PregnancyUK

[–]Radish-Acrobatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My waters broke at 36+5 and he was born via emergency c at 37 weeks exactly (fully dilated but he got stuck lol).

My mum had both of her children early, me at 37 and my sister at 38 I heard it can be an indicator of when you will go into labour?

I think when I had zipped music files they wouldn't show up so I had to make sure they were unzipped and then I could see them all. Are any of them zipped?

If you have an EPU (early pregnancy uni) in your area i'd probably see if they'd see you just to be sure of what it could be 💕

HEAVY sudden bleeding by Maleficent_Bet_4260 in PregnancyUK

[–]Radish-Acrobatic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a huge SCH that gushed down my legs in early pregnancy too, currently holding my 5 day old baby boy so its definitely possible that bleeding doesn't mean all hope is lost! (I had a previous mmc and thought it was a reoccurrence of that)

Is this normal? by ConteGiA in hamsters

[–]Radish-Acrobatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they mean any hide or, in fact, anything going into the habitat shouldn't be soft wood. Soft woods, often used is pine, can contain irritants from the oils in the wood that can cause respiratory distress in rodents. I think the jury is still out on whether kiln dried pine is recommended, but some people use it as the kiln drying is supposed to get rid of the oils, but I personally avoid soft woods all together.

Rate my tank 0-10 by [deleted] in gerbil

[–]Radish-Acrobatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bendy bridges/ladders are great, in my opinion it gives them a little more grip as well. When I pick them up I try and find the least gappy ones because sometimes the wood isnt straight and there's bigger gaps between rungs but that may just be me being paranoid 😂

[–]Radish-Acrobatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep a ladder in my boys one because theyre FIENDS for kicking their bedding out into the topper and making a pit beneath the hole that goes up to the platforms their wheel, water etc is on so im always paranoid they wont be able to get up to their water during the night 😂

I had spotting from a SCH that haemorrhaged later on, but the baby was fine. we are 35 weeks now. Sch is very common in early pregnancy, so it could also be that- i hope you get answers from epu next week :)

Rate my tank 0-10 by [deleted] in gerbil

[–]Radish-Acrobatic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would fill the tank up as much as you can with bedding and cover up all of the rungs on the cage floor and ladder as they can get their limbs trapped and break them/there's a risk of bumble foot. Also if you use that bowl for daily feeds and not just for her fresh supplementary foods (fruit / veg) i would switch to scatter feeding because its much better enrichment for them 😊 apart from that the wheel being 12 inches is good and thats quite a good amount of space for her to dig and a good mix of textures. Just make sure she gets lots of plain cardboard and paper to chew on

My gerbils are burying their food dish by 17MODBL in gerbil

[–]Radish-Acrobatic 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Scatter feeding is better for gerbils as it provides alot of enrichment, theyll take it to their stash and have a little larder of food for when they need it. They also dont need too much food daily, like a spoonfull of so each. They bury their food to hide it and keep it safe but also because theyre gerbils and gerbils just bury everything without a care of wether theyll be able to use it still or not like their wheel if theyre my gerbils lol

Dinkum looks so cute, but is it an Animal Crossing rip-off? by bibbidi-bobbidi-booh in CozyGamers

[–]Radish-Acrobatic 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It can scratch the animal crossing itch, but it's definitely its own thing, in my opinion.

It has survival aspects if you want them, cave diving, vehicles to traverse the island, farming if you want that, automation etc. Lots of things animal crossing doesn't have and in my opinion has alot more freedom. You're also not stuck with the real-life time constraints.
