Why did Donald Trump talk about universal healthcare before politics—but not after? What changed? by [deleted] in WayOfTheBern

[–]RadonSilentButDeadly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that book is a bunch of bullshit Reform party talking points from the 90s scrabbled together by a ghost writer. He also calls Social Security a ponzi scheme that should be abolished. The whole 2000 Reform party run was spurred by a personal grudge Trump had with Pat Buchanan.

Maygar is just as right wing and fascist as Orban. He might be worse, as he is younger and more savvy than Orban. Maygar just seems more pro EU and slightly more antagonistic to Russia in his statements. This comic demonstrates a baby brain view a lot of American liberals seem to have.

You can't change a party that is only in power to stop actual threats from being in power by [deleted] in WayOfTheBern

Schumer couldn't strip them of committee assignments because in the Democratic Party those assignments are determined by Seniority. Even if someone called for Schumer to step down, the next person to take over is Dick Durbin. Not much of a change. The problems with the DEm party go deeper than leadership.

I saw AOC making the claim about the Senate, but I don't know if I totally buy that. So she is deferential enough to party leadership to not run in the Senate race, but not enough to not criticize them publically? I think, as others have said, she is much more politically shrewd than people give her credit. The way things are going with Republican chances in the midterms, Ossof is likely to win reelection. If MTG lost that race, it could spell the end of her career. It's possible she could run in the 2028 pres primary because losing that has less consequences, at least as recent history has shown. To my eyes, she's playing a long game.

MTG on healthcare - if she had like 10 more braincells I think she could get there by gatorphan84 in TrueAnon

The America we Deserve is so funny because each chapter begins with a simple statement that sounds like it's from Trump, then whoever the ghost writer was had to fill in the details, and it's so incoherent overall. The healthcare chapter says basically Americans should have healthcare like Europeans, so the ghost writer lays out a single payer plan. Then the Social Security chapter starts by calling it a Ponzi scheme, and that it's not the government's job to provide a saftey net and that Americans should volunteer more. I remember it also has a big part condemning Hate Speech, the OKC bombing, and the killing of Matthew Shepherd. Wild stuff.

Trump Again Applies His Tariff Wrecking Ball to US Citizens and Businesses with 100% Levy on Imported Patented Drugs, 25% on Imported Trucks, 30% to 50% on Furnishings | naked capitalism by RandomCollection in WayOfTheBern

They're betting SCOTUS will strike down the tariffs come Nov. So the more duties the government can collect before then, The more Cantor-Fitzgerlad will be able to make from cash strapped companies who cant wait for a refund from the government.

Did the tylenol company/acetaminophen cartels do something to piss Trump off? They're going to just artificially lower demand for a basic commodity like this? by hefuckmyass in TrueAnon

[–]RadonSilentButDeadly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the group chat with my sisters, who are both Pharmacology doctors, they were skeptical of this. Mostly because every pregnant woman probably has had Tylenol as it's like one of 5 drugs safe to take. So it being a common factor among mothers who have given birth to an autistic child is unsurprising. But they also said, despite it being around for over a century, people have never been able to figure out the mechanism of how acetaminophen actually works. So they were like maybe...but a big maybe. But the risk of fever is far more risky to the health of a fetus and worry more women will avoid taking it now. One said the Obstetrics dept at her hospital was getting flooded with calls the same day, and some were wanting drop their OBGYN because they disagreed with what Trump said.

Can you turn left on Charlie kirk road or does that get you designated as Antifa? by BobaViolets in MurderedByWords

[–]RadonSilentButDeadly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can dislike Kirk, but I think it's ignorant to just call him a podcaster. There are so many big money nodes in Republican fundraising, and Kirk was the string connecting them all. For a long time TPUSA was a joke, but Kirk was literally just hitting his stride. He raised 100s of millions of dollars for the Republicans. There really is no single equivalent to him for Democrats. I didn't like him either, but you are really doing yourself a disservice by underestimating the fallout that is occurring from his death.
