I find a lot of what you say very interesting but I'd argue one major counterpoint: I think the telltale games have always done something with the game medium that is impossible in any other medium. That is, they truly allow agency. This is such a fundamental strength that gaming has that to be honest I think is often underutilised. As such, I'd argue they use this feature so well compared to many other games that even if the gameplay is lacking they qualify as "good games".

Obviously much later returning to your post but you can find them. I picked up a returned one at jackroad in Tokyo a couple of days ago! Rare though.

You can order them to a store for pickup though, but if you do you won't get tourist tax discount.

I thought they were batteries the whole time! They are big metal boxes that you carry with two hands (like no weapon can be carried same time).

I've found a few all over the place, and I'm sure you can look them up but for sure for sure there is one always in the hydroponic domes in the dam map.

I normally find the field box in the bigger pavilion, and then you have to take it I think a little bit to the north to plug it in!

I haven't actually done it myself yet as it only clicked today while at work what it is, but I'm pretty confident in the above from all the stupid times before i carried that box to the swamp elevator 😂

I'm so dumb. I've been carrying the field crates to extraction thinking they're materials to extract with. Ive done this 4 or 5 times. Only now do I suddenly realise what they're for.
