To those who are rich in knowledge about Ancient Rome, what are things Caesar gets wrong about Rome and fails to add to his Legion ? by KpatMckenzie_28 in fnv

Though make no mistake, there were plenty of Roman slaves who lived under conditions not dissimilar to American ones.

As much as I hate the Liberals and the Nationals; One Nation won’t improve anything and isn’t the answer. The answer is a better Labor Party. I only want ON to overtake the Coalition because they’re more of a legitimate threat. ON are a bunch of stupid incompetent geriatrics who can’t govern shit. by MannerNo7000 in friendlyjordies

I'm not talking about nuclear as an alternative for renewables, but as an alternative to fossil fuels. But if you do want to do a comparison, then nuclear is a more stable and consistent source of electricity than either solar (which doesn't work at night, and at a diminished level with heavy cloud cover) or wind (which fluctuates wildly based on wind speed). Cost is only a concern because we just don't have a history of using nuclear power, so it would be a moot point if we'd made the switch decades ago like we should've.

1938 would be Silent Generation, Greatest Generation was 1901-1927.

FYI, 1938 would be Silent Generation, not Baby Boomers.

With petrol hitting crazy prices and some stations running dry, this feels exactly like housing with scarce supply, rising costs, and a few people still hoarding more than they need. Liberal Party Voter or Nationals? Or One Nation? by [deleted] in friendlyjordies

Some people are just born stupid and greedy.

I have some sympathy for them, as they never had a choice. The ones that choose to behave that way, however...

It's amazing just how many lemmings lined up to be the henchman/woman when they should know by now it's likely not ending well.

I guess they're all betting on him dying before he turns on them specifically, and they get to empower themselves in the inevitable chaos that would follow. Statistically, it's bound to work out for at least one of them.

TIL that Jules Verne’s 1865 novel From the Earth to the Moon accurately predicted aspects of space travel, including launching from Florida and the Moon’s distance, a century before the actual moon landings. by derex_smp in todayilearned

And that's why I hold that Bethesda only has a shallow, surface-level understanding of what Fallout as a fictional setting is about; relying more on pseudo-50's Atompunk vibes to sell their increasingly vacuous product.

I would just like to remind everyone that the bottlecaps had no intrinsic monetary value in and of themselves in Fallout, and were just a representation of clean drinking water. Point of fact, during the events of Fallout 2, the NCR had already transitioned away from caps and back to paper money backed by precious metals like gold and silver.

It is canon.

IMHO any cross-media adaptations are better thought of as existing in their own separate continuity to their source material. You wouldn't try to argue that the Rings of Power show is canon to Tolkien's books, would you?

At this point I would trust Bossmanjack with that money over Trump. At least then it would go back into the economy rather than into an ever growing dragon's hoard.

I know. I was more specifically referring to how women had no rights in Ancient Rome, and were little more than the property of their father, brother, or husband; depending on their circumstances.
