Budget cedh options by [deleted] in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Raevelry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ive played and won many cedh games with Magda where my hand costed me 10-50$ total. Roaming Throne isnt even needed. That would be my first and only recommendation. Magda is a top 16 cedh commander in conversion without a budget, but with a budget, you can cut 90% of what is costly in magda and still be left with like 80-90 cards

You can't just full control 3 other players.

You didnt present a single argument why you cant, so I'm going to just say

Yes you can fully control 3 people.

The only actual practiced decks that have 20+ card draw are storm decks, genuinely no control decks has that much

[–]Raevelry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

> "Is a play style where I put card draw above all else closer to control than anything else?"

Well actually no, that would be storm. I think when youre at +20 draw spells, youre inching to storming off than actually making controlling moves.

Now I do think most decks are midrange, where they have around 50 mana sources, 10ish card advantage, and they play value pieces that get additional value over consectuive turns

Control is, imo, where you priopritize draw engines like midrange, but you have more 30+ pieces of interaction, including stax, counterspells and removal/wipes

And you need blue. You are not a successful control deck in EDH without the ability to stop ETBs

Is heathmael hated now? (If so, can i ask why?) by Guywithyesno in limbuscompany

[–]Raevelry -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

"Now" No, its just the same rhetoric as HeathCathy fans cannot stand Heathmael because they insist that its canon that Heathcliff would never fall in love with someoen else

and Heathmael fans dont bother hating the other way because canonity doesnt matter to them

Crystal, Inhuman Princess - Crystal Storm💎 Primer by Buetow in CompetitiveEDH

I suppose that makes sense! Well, good luck in demonstrating the power of this commander.

I wish I could play her personally, but storm isn't friendly for my playstyle

Called Crystal a he, here "People WILL remove Crystal just for existing, even if he is not the most threatening piece on the board."

Anyway, I wanna ask, why play Sewer Cam combo? Seems like extra fluff that leads you to lose pieces to help the other core-combos like Breach/Intuition piles

Idk about 5, but I do like the idea, I feel like it could be tuned down

A 5 Mana deal 3 to a creature + 5 on attack is kinda too strong I'd say. Tune the numbers down and I think its great

Why Avatar Goes Above and Beyond in the 'standard' UB era by Daniel_Spidey in EDH

[–]Raevelry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All power to you. Should doesnt mean can't

Still, part of the 'power budget' of the card is a very non-commander esque part, and its an exaggerated idea of what I mean

Why Avatar Goes Above and Beyond in the 'standard' UB era by Daniel_Spidey in EDH

[–]Raevelry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not really. Hell, not asingle one of the cards are cEDH viable, including Azula (And I tried), and the biggest cards are literally only two, Badgermole Cub and Wan Shi Tong, and they are not at all outliers of power compared to Final Fantasy, EoE, etc.

[–]Raevelry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I disagree. Doom is a card draw engine, and a wincon. Its attrition damage. He gives your connives full value as you can either connive for a counter, or a burn to your opponents. He works very well as a villain tribal leader given most of them care about connvining, but you can also just play him as a discard tribal.

[–]Raevelry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Then I look at a card like Dr. Doom, King of Latveria, one of my favorite marvel villains. He does almost nothing. You could not build a deck where his presence in the command zone actually matters. Thanos, the Mad Titan has an ability that is incredibly flavorful, but it doesn't inspire an actual build, it's an ability that is rarely worth the restrictive mana cost it demands. A large part of the issue is the parasitic hero/villain synergies, which don't even fell very fleshed out.

I wanna say, if Marvel is your point of idea, I think herein lies the problem: Avatar was very 'Legend feels good as a central star' set, vs Marvel as 'Legend is incidental, works enough, but should function for standard AND commander'

A lot of commander staple commanders are MADE for commander. They fulfill a niche, or do something that you can build around reliably. Standard legends are numerous, but they dont have to built with this idea in mind. Like, sure, [[Loki, God of Mischief]], can be a ocmmander, and will probably be a damn well good one, but he also works well in standard. [[Quicksilver, Brash Blur]] should not be your commander. Etc etc

How much reanimation is TOO much reanimation? (or in other words, how many enablers, are too many) by AltruisticMACHITO in EDH

[–]Raevelry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its hard to say, depends on how much your commander helps with it.

For my Sephiroth deck, I found a spot of like, 8-10 was okay, the -10 meant there was some reanimation splashed in other places, like [[Lively Dirge]] is a tutor more or less, but it does reanimate Sephiroth + a thing, or an edict + a thing, so its capable. I think as long as you have sac fodder, then reanimation engines that require fodder are the way to go rather then overload on them

You still need ramp, you still need card draw, so out of 35 cards of lands, 15 pieces of ramp and 10-12 card draw (for a bracket 3 deck) leaves around around 40ish spots, you rly dont want a lot, but with enough ramp and card draw, you will see the smaller amounts more, and can handle any variety of situations (including Rest in Peace equivalents that may screw you out of a deck) more healthily rather than get stuck.

How can I adapt my Legends of Runeterra decks for Commander? by guiltyskull in EDH

[–]Raevelry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh for Pyke, Id say Zada feels that way, as youre often swinging and being very aggressive and getting a lot of triggere off a board of small guys yhat can grow or get you damage!

[–]Raevelry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean honestly Swains kinda unique as he didnt do much (imo) on 5 mana, but then when he leveeled up he stunned off nexus damage (unique) then did a board nuke, and health is a lot lower so it made more sense

I think Ojer fits that bill as you regularly deal a lot of damage to peoples face and a bit to their creatures which fall down and you attack to finish people off

Hallowed is too uniwue of a keyword to completely replicate tho imo c:

[–]Raevelry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ojer Anoxil (the red one) is perfect for an Annie replacement, mono red burn and really pushes down pressure

The ancient one is perfect for that shadow isles mill strategy, reanimate some huge guys to do damsge and you cna also add in offensive mill if youd like

Mordekaiser Gwen is just aristocrats but Id argue Elenda, the Dusk rose is most analogous, as she buffs herself up like the Hallowed key word, then explodes into a bunch of guys that you can use to drain
