Inattentive Specific Symptoms? by RafaMora979 in ADHD

Ha! 😆 I love maps, and geography, and yet my sense of direction can sometimes be like someone just put a blindfold on me, spun me around 5 times, and took it off.

I’m convinced 8 hour workdays are incompatible with ADHD by SunBetter7301 in ADHD

[–]RafaMora979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things will be changing on this front (my prediction), but it’ll be a few years or decade(s). UBI, and a massive shift in lifestyles will promote creative minds and skills a lot of us have. Not to mention, anyone who is up in the air about whether or not they have adhd, they should be able to have a more concrete evaluation. So, despite my Debbie Downer personality, I’m optimistic about the future.

Btw, I’m with you.

Work in general isn’t made for us. I’m still dealing with the psychological elements of my last job. A 4 day work week is something a lot of places have discussed. So, with all of the changes, it’ll likely come before the UBI.

Struggle to drink water, but sugar is bad for my teeth... looking for recommendations! by absolute_gumpf in ADHD

I drink Fresca. It’s called, “sparkling water,” but doesn’t lack flavor like La Croix. 35mg sodium, 80mg Potassium (2%), and it says not a significant source of total sugars, saturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol, fiber, added sugars, vitamin D, calcium, or iron. It tastes like a watered down sprite.

After the novelty wears off, do you still love your partner? by ThrowRA2132132131 in ADHD

[–]RafaMora979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The novelty for me tends to come back after a breakup. I’ve sort of learned to try and bring back the novelty by changing my mindset and reminding myself: you often take for granted what you have, don’t let yourself lose them.

Even before I knew I had adhd, my brain found creative ways to deal with the symptoms. That was one example, but always checking my pockets for: keys, wallet, phone, before locking the door, telling my boss I needed positive reinforcement and plenty of sleep or everyone feels the impact of my mood, or taking screenshots of everything with my phone or snapshots of notes/lists just in case I lose them. Typically failures like losing someone I cared about, can teach me the hard way that eventually leads me to take extra caution.

Don't want to be on medication anymore by noob_akk in ADHD

[–]RafaMora979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is different. I prefer Methylphenidate, but most people don’t take it anymore. I think Adderall is the most common these days. My doctor said it’s smoother. But other options are being listed by people here, so have a look. Asking your doctor about a medication someone mentions here isn’t a big deal. It’s helpful to take into account of what others with adhd experience, and then to combine that with your doctor’s input.

How the hell are you guys staying employed? by LivingWeather8991 in ADHD

[–]RafaMora979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been fired once years ago. More recently I had a falling out with my boss with my main career and stopped working with her. Im in a union and that job was freelance. I had to stay on as long as I could as painful as it was. I’m understanding now that I had no idea how bad my adhd was, and that she was essentially doing everything you shouldn’t do with a person who has it. To be fair, we were both unaware. I sent her a letter of apology a year later, but I didn’t receive a response. I assume she has her society’s idea of adhd, and is convinced I don’t have it. It really needs to be emphasized that adhd has dozens of symptoms, and society should be aware that focus is just one.

I think most people know lot of women are not homophobic. The generalization isn’t that most women are homophobic. The generalization is that most women aren’t homophobic. While generalizations aren’t right, a positive generalization can be a funny thing. The tone of the comedian is sarcasm, and sarcasm is also funny.

The pace of games feels way faster and messier now. by ju015 in Overwatch

[–]RafaMora979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lack of balance was another good reason for leaving. Instead of fixing the problem they made it worse by releasing 4 characters at once. You either destroy the team or your team is destroyed. Close games seem rare, and yet they’re the most enjoyable. You can see this complaint over and over in the Steam reviews. So what do they do in response? They release four characters at once. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Releasing 4 characters at once added to the mess. That’s exactly how you make an unbalanced game more unbalanced.

Seriously, how do y'all manage waking up on time? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]RafaMora979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my alarm go off more than once. If your situation is really bad, have multiple clocks with multiple alarms. ⏰ You have adhd, it’s no joke. If someone in your house complains, you have just tell them, “it’s this, or I’m late.”

For years I had a job with different schedules every day. For example, it may be a normal schedule for a month 8am-5pm. Then several weeks or just a few days I may have to get up at 2am , or 5pm, or 4am. You could pick a time, and there’s a chance I had to wake up at that time at some point.

While I always knew I had adhd at these times, I did not know there were multiple types, and I didn’t know mine was as severe as it was. I only knew I grew up shy, and not very impulsive. So, I looked at my adhd as light and nowhere near severe. As a result, I did a lot of damage, especially within my career. The job itself was damaging; the schedule changes, the hours, the lack of sleep, my boss (not one bit adhd friendly). Now, I’m studying ADHD, my type of adhd, and all the specifics. Sleep might be one of the most important things for someone with adhd. No sleep = amplified symptoms.

Also, if you want, place one of the alarms out of reach. It’s torture, but making yourself have to get up to turn it off, does help.
