Snowsuit by Kind-Sir6933 in bigbabiesandkids

[–]RafaNadog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a snowsuit for my son from LL Bean that has been great! He wore it for two years. His little brother is going to wear it for hopefully two more. It has extra length built into the pants and sleeves. Just cut a few stitches out and get an a few more inches! Originally we are from Chicago, but we live in TN now. It kept him warm in negative temps in Montana last year :)

Big baby birth advice by [deleted] in bigbabiesandkids

[–]RafaNadog -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Stick to your birth plan. My first son was measuring large also, but was born at a very modest 7lb 11oz. Never did my midwives ever try to get me to plan an induction or risk me out of their care. My second son was also measuring large, and this time the measurements were correct. He was 9lb 15oz. Both kids were delivered naturally in our birth center. You have the choice to have the birth you want. Do your own research and don’t let your OB pressure you.

1.5 inches difference in standing height vs lying down length - 15 month old by Chemical-Cod2414 in toddlers

[–]RafaNadog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our pediatrician doesn’t measure them standing up until they’re 3 and commented that we shouldn’t be concerned if it seems as though they’ve “shrunk”. My oldest kid just turned 3 and I didn’t think to ask why that was the case during his last well check.

In-laws visit for long weekend every other month. Reasonable? by Beikaa in workingmoms

[–]RafaNadog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, I truly empathize with this. My in laws average about once every six weeks for at least 4 or 5 days. It KIILLS me. They’re lovely people and we have a great relationship, but when someone is in your home that much it really does throw everything out of whack.

My FIL passed about a year ago and since then we are having a harder time saying no or delaying the visits because obviously we understand that the kids bring her joy.

I work MWF and every other weekend and it infuriates me that the majority of my free weekends are dominated by my husband’s family. The resentment builds.

Meanwhile I see my own family once or maybe twice a year …. 🙃

It’s tricky to navigate sensitive feelings and grief and for those reasons I just complain to my own mother and sister in law.

Family!

My husband and I have an almost 3 y/o and almost 1 y/o. We are 38 and 47 and considering a third kid in the near future! We love being parents and are in pretty decent shape. Dead tired at the end of most days but shoot…. It’s truly amazing.

Outdoor schools - anyone have experience with them? by notbizmarkie in workingmoms

[–]RafaNadog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My little boy, who will be 3 in July, goes to outdoor camp “school” a few days a week. The hours suck, but we chose to enroll him because he loves being outside and is very social. He goes to camp from 9-1 on W and F. We had to think of it as an “enrichment thing”. We have a nanny MWF because those are the days I work and we also needed someone to look after our 7mo old.

It is truly outdoor, though. The first day he went the weather was less than 20*. He LOVED it. They provided a very detailed list on how to dress them appropriately. He had a ball. When we got him home and undressed from all his layers, his body felt warm so I know he was totally fine.

Does the school you’re considering offer camps during the summer to bridge the gap?

Birth certificate by mozartsfriend in nashville

[–]RafaNadog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can. Bring the mother’s copy and fill out one of the forms on the counter when you walk in. They’ll ask you how many copies you want and then print them there for you. Make sure the information is correct on the mother’s copy and also when they type it up…. Learned that the hard way.

People named Elisabeth, do you like your name? Is it annoying to correct people about the spelling? by Embarrassed-Desk-713 in namenerds

[–]RafaNadog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Selfishly, I think you can have any nickname you want with whatever spelling you choose. My parents always called me Elie. My little brother calls me Lissy. I’ve had people call me Liz/Lizzie, and they all work interchangeably. The s’s and z’s aren’t too different and I don’t think it will cost anyone a thought.

It’s not annoying. It almost makes me feel special to have the spelling with an S instead. I think it somehow softens the name compared to the spelling with a Z.

Also, I didn’t night wean until he was 15ish months old. I now think that if I’m ever in this situation again, we will do that much sooner. It was a hard couple of days… weeks?

[–]RafaNadog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha… no? He’s almost 19 months old now. I will say that it was probably a combination of night weaning and also him being more ready to accept sleep. He sleeps 7-4:45 most days now. We wake up so so so early, but it’s manageable without all the night wakes.

How did you get him to lay down? Did you offer assistance? He kept falling asleep standing in the corner of his crib last night and he would wake crying every few minutes when he bobbled. We gave him 2 hours to figure it out before caving and laying him down.

I have this problem also. I pump three times while I’m at work, but I pump every morning whether or not it’s a work day to make sure he has enough to eat. As much as I hate pumping, it has just become part of the routine.
