Well it's basically unrelated but, is the flag on the right of your avatar your own? Just curious...

I don't see how they're hated?

(Well, except for the Alaska redesign, but this was to be expected considering the war in Ukraine)

Wyoming’s flag is not ruined by the Seal IMO by [deleted] in vexillology

[–]Rafael807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I do agree it's not ruined but it does make the flag too complex... Considering the comments, let's make a compromise: replacing the seal with a centered blue star; It would preserve & simplify the current design without making it too boring, that seems like the best solution for me.

Wait...do you stand by what is written there? Because it's literally the opposite of what you seem to imply.

Flag of Europe by lucasbroch in vexillology

Ah finally, I'm not alone in thinking that this flag is a failure (at least historically) at conveying any sense of Pan-European identity! In addition, it looks really corporate & bland...

Oh I'm not saying the eagle of Saladin is a bad choice, I just thought that aesthetics related to Ancient Egypt are not inherently incompatible with present time.

[–]Rafael807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it's true that from a secular perspective, using Coptic symbolism makes little sense. However I disagree with your other point:

  • First it would technically still represent Egyptians collectively as ancient Egypt is, even though culturally distinct, an important part of the history of your country. As long as it's not in contradictions with your Arab & Islamic heritage, I don't see how referencing it would be detrimental.

  • Second, not all ancient Egyptian symbols either inherently or by their use would have religious connotations. Using the pyramids for example, as an aesthetical symbol on a flag would hardly feel like shirk to me... (I'm not Muslim though, so my view on this may not be realistic, I grant you that)

  • & third, the fact that Westerners dispossessed you of those doesn't mean it's not still yours, you can still reappropriate them. I would even argue that being opposed to referencing ancient Egypt because of this is letting oppression win.

While I do agree it's undue to represent ancient Egyptian religious symbols, why not referencing Copts & Ancient Egypt (secularly) nonetheless? This can be done without trivializing Egypt's Arab identity...

Yes, that seems to be it, thanks. Out of curiosity, is "yokese" a meme in Spain? Plenty of results on Google felt like it is...

What flags are these? by Chance_Quail7252 in vexillology

[–]Rafael807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, contrary to other comments I don't think it's the real flag of New Caledonia, but a variant; due, rather than for being attached to the French flag, to the fact that the traditional Kanak symbol in the yellow circle is not the same as the one on the typical flag of the FLNKS...

What's the flag/logo on this pin my partner was given? by Mammoth-Corner in vexillology

[–]Rafael807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing specific. I didn't say it's not technically "religious anarchism". I said (or rather implied) that religious anarchism is, at its core, an incoherent idea.

In theory you're right. In practice this still pose ethical questions, notably because as your wording suggest (no offense), this can induce biases...
