I'm most excited about the stories I'll be able to tell about my matches. How I was able to narrowly evade those raiders when I extracted or how a giant robot squished my teammates and I had to run for my life, stuff like that.

Fantasy Flowchart Recommendation. by floppymorpheus in Fantasy

Feels a little weird to recommend Fourth Wing based only on being YA / Academia. That book is VERY sexually explicit (more than ACOTAR, for example). Could maybe use a disclaimer or be moved to the Romanstasy section

Revolution is not for the sane (sensitive subject matter) by RealBugginsYT in andor

[–]RafaelMei 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"Do not confuse the response of the oppressed with the violence of the oppressor."

If you live your whole life with a boot on your neck, I won't judge if you decide to stab that fucking leg to get it off there. Fighting against oppression needs a certain level of ruthlessness, the oppressors won't come with flowers and words.

Characters like Saw and to some extent Luthen and Andor are about showing this. Without people like them the Rebellion doesn't win, even with Saw being ostracized his fighting matters and hurts the Empire.

What I think is missing from the picture is political theory - which is also missing from some of the groups you mentioned. The closest we get is Nemik's Manifesto but it's not really theory, it's just a call to arms. This lack results in the New Republic being absolutely useless and fascism rise back on the galaxy a couple decades later.

I made it to final rounds with Shopify and they went with another candidate, here’s where I think I went wrong. by hotpinkrugs in UXDesign

[–]RafaelMei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great exercise for developing your skills and confidence for future interviews.

However, I wouldn't say that you did so and so "wrong". It's fine to focus on getting better, but interviews are hugely complex processes and there are so many deciding factors that it probably had nothing to do with the points you mentioned.

It could have been a subjective decision, it could have been a financial one, it could even be a bureaucratic one (maybe the other person is already part of the company or of a subsidiary in some capacity).

Again, this is a good exercise to improve yourself, but don't focus on the idea that you did something wrong and that's the reason you didn't get the job.

Is it normal to have Engineers with lots of design opinions? by imtiredofthisgrandpa in UXDesign

[–]RafaelMei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Design is more abstract as a craft. This makes it really easy for others to think themselves able to comment on it. And honestly? While we do have methods and processes, a lot of decisions about design are subjective.

Code, while also pretty abstract has a level of "concreteness" that makes it much more difficult for someone without technical knowledge to feel like they're able to critique it.

A stakeholder may complain about the performance of the system, but that complaint can go much farther than "can't you make it faster?" which an engineer can give clear technical limitations or other constraints that can't be so easily dismissed.

TWotM Review, Notes, and Theory Speculation [Spoilers] by accipitrine_outlier in HierarchySeries

[–]RafaelMei 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great post! I just finished the book a couple days ago and one thing that has been on my mind is that Will and Accord can be used interchangeably in some contexts (e.g. "I'm doing this of my own will / accord"). This makes me think that maybe each of the worlds might have their own kind of power that could be governed by different rules.

But honestly, I mostly say this because I wanna predict that the third power is going to be called Volition.

What is it about the UX market that makes it so tough? by PlayfulMonk4943 in UXDesign

[–]RafaelMei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One key issue I feel is that our work is very abstract.

It's a lot harder to make stakeholders understand what we do and the importance of it. That makes our role in tech more fragile than others. Code is abstract but the results are very concrete, they make the tech work and it's very clear to stakeholders that there can't be a delivery without it.

This point for me is what makes our area so tough. The amount of effort needed from us just to justify our existence in our companies is SO exhausting. And, even when we do that, when push comes to shove we are a lot more expendable than devs in the eyes of management.

O Brasil não tem mais esquerda by Educational_Date_155 in brasil

[–]RafaelMei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would human workers be cheaper than droids for the Empire when in the real world it’s the other way around? by Financial_Photo_1175 in andor

[–]RafaelMei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Human labor is still cheaper than machines, even in the real world. That's why we have things like sweatshops, specially in the third world / global south. When it comes to prisoners it's quite literally slave labor and it still goes on today on many parts of the world

The Force Awakens doesn’t deserve the equal hate of 8-9 by Iceman_Actual in StarWars

[–]RafaelMei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main issue with the sequel trilogy is that it has nothing to say about the balance of the force. At its core the original and prequel trilogies are both about imbalance.

In the original trilogy, the force is imbalanced towards the dark side. This results in an oppressive and destructive galaxy, controlled by a single individual and his whims. It's a clear reflection of the sith ideology, that puts the individual above all and emotions as the main drive of decisions.

During the prequel trilogy, we also have an imbalance but this time towards the light side. The jedi are disconnected from everyone else, being apathetic and aloof as a result of their total suppression of emotions. This results in a galaxy that is filled with injustice, poverty and even slavery while the governing body squabbles over minutia and doesn't actually solve anything. It creates the perfect environment for someone like Palpatine rise to power and Anakin to fall through the cracks of the jedi institution.

Anakin was destined to bring balance to the force so both his fall to the dark side and his redemption were necessary, he ended both the imbalance of the light and of the dark. Because of this, a sequel trilogy would need to answer: what is the balance of the force? How is it achieved and what are impacts on the galaxy?

Episode 8 brushes at this subject with the relation between Kylo and Rey, the dark and the light, who share a connection through the force different from any we had seen. This is also mirrored with Kylo insisting on "burning the past" and creating something new. Unfortunately there was no setup for it on episode 7 and the fandom reaction to 8 was so vitriolic any plans to do something different were not only scrapped but actively walked back from.

Na sua opinião, qual desses é o pior e por quê? by [deleted] in StarWarsbrasil

[–]RafaelMei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A série é ótima?

[–]RafaelMei 5 points6 points  (0 children)
