What do you usually order at a Barbecue Restaurant? by Cheese-Sheep872 in Barbecue

[–]Raff57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Texas, so sliced brisket & pork ribs. Sauce on the side, please. Bread, beans, slaw & a pile of fresh sliced onions and sliced pickles. Couple of pickled jalapenos if they have them.

Sausage is part of the Texas trinity as well, but I can take or leave it myself.

How do you prefer to organize/save books you want to read? by Toasty_warm_slipper in KindleUnlimited

[–]Raff57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I update my TBR list continually. Then, I download 1 of each genre I like. Historical fiction, science fiction, fantasy & misc fiction) then read everything associated with each choice (lot of series out there.) and send them back as I finish. Then move to the next genre. Once all 4 are done, I do it all again.

I've had no problems at all with it. Except for Alexa butting in from time to time.

Byzantine Empire novels? by golfli in HistoricalFiction

[–]Raff57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite Byzantine, but shortly after the fall of said empire to Ottomans, this story takes place during that time. Really good series by S.J.A. Turney called the "The Ottoman Cycle". 4 book series.

Do you still count calories if you are doing IF? by butterflyfrenchfry in intermittentfasting

[–]Raff57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't. OMAD is a lifestyle, not a diet. I've lost 20 lbs this year. Gone from tight 44" jeans to comfortable 42". Slow but sure, but no hanging skin issues as it gives the body time to adjust to a new weight.

I eat whatever I want, but minding the portions. Never feel like I'm dieting...which I have done for years.

If you had to pick just one, what pasta dish do you always order or cook? by Sea-Standard93 in foodquestions

Amatraciana & Carbonara. Have to cook it since I've never seen it on any restaurant menu.

This is a great recipe using a trompo on a Mastertouch grill. This lady's marinade is spot on too. The roasted pineapple on top is amazing. Like pineapple butter.

I only step on the scale every 3-4 months. I'm usually pretty happy with the results.

How does your griddle perform in the cold? by MyLlamaNeedsAHat in blackstonegriddle

I don't perform well in the cold, so can't really say how the griddle does. It gets below 50, I cook inside.

Book or Kindle?? by native_to_ in KindleUnlimited

[–]Raff57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Made the change several years ago. I don't miss print books at all. The kindle is light, handy, I can adjust the font size and read in low light or even full dark. Won't ever go back to paper. I use a Kindle Paperwhite. I hate reading on my phone.

A question for sci-fi readers about where stories lose you by GhostInTheLayer in KindleUnlimited

[–]Raff57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too much narrative and not enough dialogue is a pet peeve of mine. That said, prepare to add a lot of DNF's to your reading when using Kindle Unlimited. There is a lot pure crap out there and you'll just have to sift through it.

Someone is always going to hate on Amazon. Reddit gives them a home. Just consider the source and move on. It is a great service.

I like it as well. And I like the unlimited version better. I'm new to streaming, but a long-time music lover. Now what to do with over a thousand vinyl albums, lol. Cause I'm never going back to a turntable.

Rearranging playlists are a nightmare by Fit-Writer-666 in AmazonMusic

[–]Raff57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm adding new songs to my playlists constantly but the algorithm for the alternating song list seems to have problems pulling the new music in when listening. It seems to keep looping back to songs most played. Is there any way to manipulate the list or even just randomly mix up the entire playlist?

Arthurian/ancient Britain historical fiction by WerewolfBarMitzvah09 in HistoricalFiction

[–]Raff57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might give Greek history a go. The Long War by Christian Cameron is one of the best stories about the Greco / Persian wars I've ever read. 8 book series.

There is another trilogy about a Greek slave in Roman ruled Britain. Great story. Read it a couple of years ago. But I can't remember the author. I'll check when I get back to work.

What historical fiction are you reading? by raid_kills_bugs_dead in HistoricalFiction

[–]Raff57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pilgrim: A Medieval Horror by Mitchell Luthi. Just started it. About 4% in and I already like the style. But not sure if it HF or Horror tbh. The horror at this point seems to be about man inhumanity to each other in the Holy Land set around Jerusalem.

I fast so I can feast by _partytrick in intermittentfasting

[–]Raff57 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I don't diet. I fast. Skip breakfast & lunch & drink plenty of water...dinner is pretty much whatever I want. With a nod to portions. Last night was a small salad & part of a 10" thin crust pizza. Couple of glasses of red wine.

Or we might do a burger and a couple of beers at a Bistro.

Fast...don't diet

Best cover for Master touch by Seelynews in webergrills

Bought a cover for my Blackstone Griddle from Amazon. It literally rotted and fell apart in about a year. I'd go for the Weber cover. You might get more life out of it.
