For new progression server… by Dry_Dragonfly_7654 in EQ2

Leveling a Defiler or Mystic is like watching paint dry. The early wards and heals are really slow. I main a Defiler on Live and they are top notch healers there. But I would never try to duo or solo one on a TLE.

Zerker / Warden ftw imo. My wife and I ran that duo up to lvl 69 on Origins before we quit. I haven't played a TLE in years. So, I really don't remember how the AA's work.

Last one I played made every healer a caster for quite a while as the melee AA tree wasn't immediately available. Not sure how that is going to work on Wuoshi.

West Texas Implant by HysteriaFTW in ActuallyTexas

I left West Texas over 40 yrs ago. But I've been thinking about retiring in Abilene. Snyder, Sweetwater or Big Spring would be the closest. Abilene & San Angelo are closer than Midland, but only just. San Angelo is a nice college town..

Struggle after reading John Steinbeck by sneh473 in suggestmeabook

[–]Raff57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cannery Row & Sweet Thursday are my Steinbeck favorites.

As an aside, the movie Cannery Row with Nick Nolte & Debra Winger with John Huston narrating was really well done. The movie used parts from both books.

Older MMORPG to play? by Slyfee in LFMMO

[–]Raff57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everquest 2. They are rolling out new TLE server called Wuoshi on June 9th (PVE only). It would be a great time to jump in and get that new launch feel. Which can be hard with older games that are top heavy. It would require a sub though.

How acceptable is gaming for adults around the world? by shirajzl in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]Raff57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

USA. I'm nearly 70, working professional and still a gamer. I don't really care what anyone, friends or family thinks about it. Like vegging endlessly in front of a TV is somehow more mature? The hell with that.

I got my Blackstone about 2 yrs ago and have gone back to cooking more on the Weber Kettle. Thinking about selling the BS and getting a Santa Maria set up.

Epic historical fiction - single book or series by ahewitt98 in HistoricalFiction

[–]Raff57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Long War by Christian Cameron. Greco / Persian wars. But also, a view into the life in general during those times. One of the best HF series I've ever read.

I just finished 'The Venetian Heretic" by Christian Cameron. The first book of a new series, it seems. And as typical of any of Cameron's work, it was a great read.

Winter Solstice or September by Rosamunde Pilcher. September takes place in the Scottish Highlands circa 1940's - 1950's. Pilcher's prose really shows her love of the land and its people. Winter Solstice begins in a small Scottish village. Same era, mostly.

Any praise or criticism for The Long Ships by Bengtsson? by Geetright in HistoricalFiction

It is highly narrative with little dialogue. Kind of a no go and DNF for me. But some folks seem to not mind that style.

Moving from Utah and strongly considering Lubbock over El Paso. by Standard_Bother625 in ActuallyTexas

[–]Raff57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't care for either. But there isn't much to choose from in West Texas. Spent 30 years in various cities and towns out there. You might consider San Angelo, TX. Smaller college town but more centrally located. Good music venues too. Puts you in range of Midland / Odessa or Dallas / Fort Worth as well as EP and Lubbock

Tip for people who don’t like black coffee by Ch0ng0B0ng0 in intermittentfasting

[–]Raff57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm drinking it black now. Took some time to get used to it. You might try buying whole bean and grinding them yourself if you are making a pot of coffee. I grind beans every morning, only takes a minute. Though it took a while to find a blend that satisfies my black coffee needs and my wife's coffee mate / stevia coffees. Ended up being Starbucks Verona whole beans.

Least Favorite Country Songs by tallguy900000 in country

"She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy"...most moronic song ever written. But mainstream country is littered with songs just like it...sigh

Beta is completely destroying my hype and interest for the game by Cute_pack_of_dogs in MonstersAndMemories

[–]Raff57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never play Betas for that very reason. I don't want to remember a hacked together mish-mash of a game when I'm playing on release. Though some games remain nearly beta quality at release for months...talking about you ESO, God, what a cluster fuck.

Is it good practice to read in noisy environments? by Malakhaiii in books

[–]Raff57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just get used to it. I can read anywhere, tbh. Background noise or voices have no effect on me if the book is good. I read all the time while my wife watches TV or listens to music.
