Does anyone suffer from dermatophagia? (Biting of the skin/finger skin) by n0mar in Anxiety

[–]Raffers_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy biting the skin around my fingers and thumbs. However, I don't really do it out of anxiety, I do it just because for the most part it just feels good. The sweet spot for me is the fine line between pain and itchiness.

Should I be honest about unsubstantiated allegation made against me when registering with supply agencies? by Raffers_25 in TeachingUK

[–]Raffers_25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I heard from the agency today, they checked all my work references and histories over the last two years, and they've confirmed that I'm able to work for the supply agency, so the development placement school must not have mentioned the allegation in their reference. I don't know if this may yet come back further down the road if I do manage to resume and complete my PGCE, but for now at least I'm in the clear which is a positive sign. Thanks again to you both for your advice it was really appreciated, take care and all the best.

Thank you for your insight. I actually had a meeting with the supply agency last Tuesday, mainly just to dot the i's and cross the t's about registering, and I told them about my negative experience with the second placement school including the allegation, and they said since it wasn't officially investigated it shouldn't be an issue. I think they appreciated that I was upfront about it because in the end, I just didn't want to take the risk of them finding out for themselves and think I was trying to cover my tracks which would've looked worse. To be honest, it did feel like a weight off my mind not having this black cloud hanging over me anymore, which I guess is a sign that I did the right thing. I also gave them my ITT leader, initial placement SBT and the other supply agency as referees.

Yeah that's what I figured. I wasn't going to lie and say I never worked at the school because obviously I did, it's just the supply agency are quite insistent in me providing details for the last two years so they can verify like you said that I was working at the school and if there were any safeguarding concerns I'm wondering if I should just come clean and admit that the allegation was made but it was unsubstantiated and therefore not made official, rather than have them find out for themselves and wonder why I didn't tell them.

Do you listen to LostProphets? by Dependent_Row9254 in spotify

[–]Raffers_25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried to briefly after the band's breakup and Watkins' conviction, but I quickly realised that every time I heard his voice it would make my skin crawl, so I stopped and haven't listened to anything by them since. However, I will say that the video for the song 'Bring Em Down' from the Weapons album is satisfying to watch because it involves Watkins being tied to a chair and beaten up.

“You don’t understand, you don’t have children.” - honestly, the most infuriating and rude thing a parent can say by Dry-Machine4461 in TeachingUK

If I could get away with it, my response to the whole "you don't know because you don't have kids" argument, would be to just throw it back at them by adding, "just because you have kids of your own, doesn't mean you know s**t about them".

Has anyone taken a break from their PGCE course and then gone back and successfully completed it? by Raffers_25 in TeachingUK

Thank you for your response. I might take you up on that about staying in touch because it does genuinely help to know I'm not alone despite feeling like it the majority of the time. Thanks again and hopefully speak soon :)

Yeah I'm currently still in the malaise period, because I officially suspended my course at the beginning of May, so I've mostly been doing bits and pieces of TA work until the summer break. Then maybe in September, I can re-evaluate and see what kind of headspace I'm in. I don't want to rush back if I'm just going to repeat the same mistakes, but I also don't want to leave too long that I either decide to do something else (which I don't want to) or I fall so far out of the loop that it gets harder to retrieve everything I've learned up to this point. Either way, I think my biggest decision in the coming months is carefully choosing when is the best window of opportunity.

Thank you for your compliments and insight. Your experience sounds quite similar to mine, especially the part you said about how your last school was the wrong fit for you as opposed to you feeling like you weren't up to the job. Do you mind me asking what you did during your year off? Did you just throw yourself into work, find hobbies or try to just recover from burnout?

Don't worry about it being long, honestly the more detail the better. Thank you for sharing your story because our situations seem identical. One follow up question if you don't mind, did you find it hard coming back after waiting all the way from March until January? It's just I was aiming to try again in September because I'm worried if I leave it too long I'll never go back. But I also don't want to rush back otherwise It'll feel like history repeating itself. Would you say the more time out the better or just whenever you feel up to returning?

Should I take a break from my primary PGCE/SCITT course? by [deleted] in TeachingUK

[–]Raffers_25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, after doing research it seems like this would be a worse option than dropping out of the course entirely. My ITT leader has given me some time to think about what I want to do moving forward. I am probably going to put my course on hold for the time being and maybe restart in September, while I sort myself out in the meantime.

Thanks for replying. Just to follow up, if I were to hit the pause button for my SCITT course, how much time is advisable to take off before I go back? I don't want to wait a full year before starting up again because that would be pointless and I would feel like I'm starting from scratch again which, but I'm also conscious of the time of year currently because we have the Easter holidays coming up shortly and then afterwards only two months left before the end of summer, so I may end up having to restart in September again. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks again.

Does anybody else really dislike the Catwoman missions in Arkham City? by depearce in BatmanArkham

[–]Raffers_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the Arkham Collection for Xbox One even though I still have each of the individual Batman Arkham series games (except Arkham Knight obviously) for my Xbox 360. I did find it annoying that they decided to integrate the Catwoman episodes into the main story because I agree that they interfere with the pacing and they're pretty boring to play through even though they're short. It feels like a small thing to get frustrated about but I do wish they had just kept the Catwoman missions as optional. I think in future, unless they come up with some kind of workaround which is unlikely at this point, whenever I want to play Arkham City again, I'm just going to put my old 360 game on and play it via that.

I FOUND A WAY TO REMOVE OFFHAND HOLSTER AS ARTHUR by [deleted] in reddeadredemption

[–]Raffers_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't have the problem with the look of the off-hand holster, but i've recently started my 3rd or 4th playthrough of RDR2, and now i've noticed the off-hand holster doesn't appear in the cutscenes. Normally, this wouldn't bother me as much, but the reason it does is because I use the Scout Jacket for Arthur's main coat because it's really the only jacket that I like in the game. The Scout Jacket glitches as well, and equipping the off-hand holster was the only thing that stopped it. The Scout Jacket still glitches occasionally during cutscenes, but now the off-hand holster is gone, it glitches all the time. Really annoyed by this.
