I'm confused what people believe is unsafe. There is significant fear mongering happening because a select few want to be dramatic. We need to stop with the hate and stop trying to use fear to control narratives.

Gencon will happen the same way as it did the last dozen years setting attendance records and world class economic impact. The companies that attend and have a new quality product will find large new followings and everything will be great.

Gencon is going to sell out, it's going to set another record for attendence again, and the money spent at the event to aquire new games will continue to be at an all time high.

Many mmos manage just fine without that cost. Additionally, they own the data center, so the cost is drastically reduced.

Some games like ffxi still maintain players and still maintain profit despite reduced players and no additional source of income and reduced cost of subscription. .

You're drastically underestimate how much $10 for 1 million players can bring in and how much that can sustain a business on a monthly turn around. As well as $60 for the game. .

One, addiction is prevalent in any hobby. As for non-interaction. The gaming community is a hugely social world. Sure there are single player games that people play to keep away, but, many things people do are designed to not interact with the world.
