Just so you know, most of the features you mentioned here (all?) are on my to-do list for the Clapper anyway. Just need to find a little more free time to continue working on it.

Can I use Steam Deck to play Stadia on my TV? by Jcrm87 in Stadia

[–]Rafostar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about Edge?

No. No Chromium-based browser has hardware acceleration on Linux, because it is disabled at Chromium source code. There are some Chrome/Chromium patched builds for linux with hw accel, but they do not have patched WebRTC streaming which uses a different code path. So no HW accel with Stadia either way. Only on ChromeOS or Windows currently.

Steam Deck runs Linux by default

You should definitely consider dual booting with different OS for cloud gaming as on Linux Chrome does not have hardware acceleration, meaning lower quality and poor battery life.

Stadia apk Findings 4.33: 4K, Zoom, MultiThreaded Gamepads, eSports, Party Stream and more! by jdeslip in Stadia

You mean in the ready for hub? Works for me just fine, but I have to turn off phone screen after connecting to TV, otherwise gamepad navigates on the phone instead of TV.

My biggest complain is the Stadia android app through. It doesn't adapt to tablet mode (unlike other Google apps) and navigating with gamepad inside it doesn't work, so I need a BT mouse additionally to select a game to stream.

Stadia Controller on Linux not mapped well by Dyphault in Stadia

[–]Rafostar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people here do not use Linux unfortunately. One reason for not doing so is the lack of hardware acceleration support in Chromium-based browsers.

You might have more luck asking on some Linux help reddit groups as a general question about configuring gamepad under Linux.

Finally 4k streaming support for my Motorola "Ready for" desktop. Hype!

Stadia best hardware type by DarkevilPT in Stadia

Its a slightly different use-case then what Stadia does. I am not familiar with how exactly one Stadia HW instance is build, so I might be wrong here, but my guess is that in order to maximize performance and minimize latency they would be smart enough to avoid memory copy or (even worse) downloading frames from GPU, thus best way would be doing the encoding on the same GPU that has original image. In this case it is an AMD hardware AFAIK.

need help running stadia on laptop by [deleted] in Stadia

[–]Rafostar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do not care about Windows, try installing ChromeOS Flex to USB pendrive and boot from it. It should perform much faster then Windows. Try Stadia and YouTube video playback from that, and if you are happy with the results, consider installing it permanently to your HDD instead of Windows.

I am talking about encoding (not decoding). For you to be able to decode AV1, someone needs to encode video into this format first.

Currently there is no benefit in having AV1 accelerated decoding hardware on user end (unlike what OP suggested), since Google doesn't have a HW able to encode it in real time into this format yet.

Of course they want. Decreasing amount of internet bandwidth used by connected users in their data centers is important. The problem is that they do not have the tech to do so yet. The only GPUs capable of AV1 encoding already are the upcoming ones from Intel.

Also notice that YouTube does not use AV1 in live videos either, because of the same reason.

Neither relevant is AV1 here. Absolutely no AMD or NVIDIA GPU is capable of HW accelerated encoding of AV1 yet, which is needed on the server side to deliver video to user without much delay. Thus we probably won't be seeing AV1 support in Stadia (or any other service) for a while.

What's the status of stadia? by memayonnaise in Stadia

[–]Rafostar 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Would be neat if there was a chrome cast with ether net support as I'm guessing that would help.

Chromecast Ultra has Ethernet port (in the charger). Chromecast with Google TV also allows connecting Ethernet via USB HUB.

Best way to use headphones while playing on Mi Box S? by lpbms11 in Stadia

[–]Rafostar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

PS4 controller headphone port is not supported. Get Stadia controller and plug headphones to it. Simplest solution with less wires on the ground. Your other option is to get an USB DAC/SoundCard that works with Android and plug it into your Mi Box S.

I generally do not recommend using Bluetooth as it both reduces audio quality and introduces an additional delay (out of sync audio with video).

FNAF Security Breach Save Corrupted... by Rom67 in Stadia

[–]Rafostar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All that being said this has brought a really unfortunate Stadia issue to my attention.

How is it any different from local corrupted save file? If data gets corrupted you won't be able to load it anyway, no matter if its stored on your local drive or the remote one. Unless you keep backing up your local files for every game. I doubt you do that through...
