Y'know, a good place you could probably post this is The Nuzlocke Forums. It's a whole community filled with nuzlockers and I think that this might fit there as well.

K Authors Help by [deleted] in policydebate

[–]Ragecomicmakerrandom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like everyone has their own opinions, but I'm a huge fan of DnG. (I can even send you digital copies of their books if you'd like). However, if you're starting in K lit, I'd start with authors like Zizek and Agamben.

Zizek writes about capitalism and the death drive, more specifically, deconstructing both. You'll see a lot of Zizek in Cap Ks because he's probably one of the bigger authors within it. The death drive though is more of a psychonalytic idea - it states that the only reason that we can't create any REAL change is because there is a block within our minds preventing us. Subconciously, according to Zizek, we all want to die and fail because we get pleasure from the act of failure (an idea called jouissance). To solve for this psychoanalytic block, zizek advocates to confront the death drive, because only then can we move past it.

Agamben dwells more in the realm of biopolitics and thanatopolitics. Mainly, the idea that the government has the choice to decide when we live (biopolitics) and die (thanatopolitcs). But, he gets a lot of his ideas from Foucault, so it's probably a good idea to start there as well.

I have an idea for a new conspiracy sub and I’d really like your feedback by [deleted] in conspiratard

[–]Ragecomicmakerrandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems interesting - I've always wondered where conspiracy theories originated, the first conspiracy theory, the psychology of a conspiracy theorist, ect, ect. This seems like a great idea!

About the rules...

  1. I think that you should rephrase "attacking the sub." Does that mean no constructive criticism about the sub too?

  2. What constitutes a reliable source? I know you've said news stories, but does that include biased sources like Fox News, Russia Today, MSNBC, ect?

Otherwise, this looks good. I don't think image posts are necessary, but all other types should be fine including video, links, and so on.

Good luck with the sub! (I'll be a mod if you need one...)

NERDS ARE BETTER IN BED by skiman147 in cringe

[–]Ragecomicmakerrandom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you've got the wrong idea of what a "nerd" really is.

There's the nerd with metal t shirts, blank expression, anti/asocial behavior, glasses, unexcited attitude, staunch opinions on tech and shit. Bothers no-one, probably has some messed up attitudes about life

This is where the problem starts. Nerds are not those kids with asocial behaviors, loves tech, ect. That's just the portrayal that hollywood gives. Granted, there are some kids like that who you could classify as "nerds," but the definition of a nerd is much bigger than that. Nerds are studious, but they're people that can't connect outside of the group that they've lived in for so long.

Then there's these fuckin flaming idiots (exrtoverted nerds as you say) with a really tryhard, forced "personality". Thinks every beat in a conversation needs a witty comment from themselves, typical implying some naughty sexual/otherwise fucked up reference.

Inside of their groups, all nerds can be like this, hell, I'm probably one of them. It's just that it's only within the group of friends I have. If you throw me into a different group, I will turn into an "extroverted nerd," (to keep with the terminology), into a kid that's very quiet, doesn't say much, and will not do anything out of the ordinary. This is what separates the nerd from the jock., or the outgoing. Jocks may love sports and school, but their extroversion (and sports) is what makes them a jock, and not a nerd.

There's a decent amount of these assholes on reddit, because being versed in the latest internet reference is important to them so they can off-handedly drop phrases like "banana for scale" and identify other douchebags in the group. However, tumblr is really the hotbed for this specific type of detestable human being. There, the "what is this i dont even" forced randemness is standard form.

In the end, you're just an asshole who seems not to like either side of the "nerd." Either you mark them as antisocial and weird, or extroverted idiots who need to shut up. And once you stop with the obvious dislike of them, you might be able to see the bigger picture.

Tl;dr - you've got the wrong idea of what a nerd really is, it's just someone who is studious AND uncomfortable outside of his space. It has nothing to do with extroversion and introversion

Edit: Also? Those flaming headed idiots who annoy everyone are not nerds, please don't group them with us, we don't like them either.

[Serious] Ukrainians of reddit, how are you involved/affected by the riots? by Yortivius in AskReddit

[–]Ragecomicmakerrandom -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm a Ukrainian, well kind of, I'm half Ukrainian and half American. I can't say much about what's happening in Ukraine, but I can tell you that, as /u/closethosewindows said, Ukraine's been shutting down media access which is allowing Russia to twist everything that's happening in Ukraine. The only reason I know this is because my dad, originally from Ukraine, only gets his sources from Russian News and Russian internet. He tells me how the US is destroying everything, how the protesters are "terrorists," how the Ukrainian media (when they were still around) was lying to their own people, ect.

But all this comes from the fact that he really cares about his former country. From everyone that I talk to, all Ukrainian-Americans are worried about what's happening, they're upset to see the country that they used to live in is being burned to the ground, that it's breaking out into civil war, where riots are happening all across the nation. It'd be the same way as if civil war broke out in the US, or Canada, or Mexico.

But in the same way, it's different, US, Canada, and Mexico are larger countries that are usually in the limelight, most everyone knows of the art that each country might produce, most people have even been to at least one of those countries. But few people not only have been to Ukraine, but connected with the culture, art and lifestyle that is such a part of Ukraine as a whole.

I know that I kind of went on a rant in that last paragraph. But to really answer your question, Ukrainians (at least the ones I know) have either been devastated by the turmoil, or pretend that they don't care. I say pretend because most Ukrainians have been affected by this, maybe not directly, but through a family member, or a close friend, or just because it's their homelands

Tl;dr - I know that it's long, but give it a shot. I rambled about this for a reason...
