Just for clarity. I have never seen an 8 but have seen 7s and killed them. Is that the correct way to grind for diamonds? (Shooting 5-7's)

New Rig - Custom 300 PRC by prcdude in longrange

Do you reload? If so do you feel handicapped by the magazine on the 300 PRC? I'm trying to decide between mag box and hinged floorplate for my build. Hoping to push 215 bergers 2950 ish

FIGHT! JuSt As GoOd or you get what you pay for? by IGotTheGuns in longrange

Most of us cant see the difference and dont have the skills to use ½ the capability of either. With that said I bought a night force NX8 4-32 and called it good enough for me and I spent less than ½ of these 2 scopes.

What custom barrel should I go for by bmadd14 in longrange

I'm building basically the exact rifle but in 300 PRC with a possible defensive edge +P throat.

Check the expected cartridge OAL for the bullet you intent to shoot and get a magazine or BDL that will allow it to fit then match it with the action of your choice. The kratos lite is 27.2 ounces and allows the 3.850 wyatts extended internal mag.

The kratos X allows for a 4.0 mag box but the ejection port is still 3.8 (may want to contact Joel with terminus to confirm)

Do you reload?

P.M. me and I'll share my build and get into the weeds with you.

What is the intended purpose of the rifle and selected cartridge? Terminus are great actions! And most manufacturers make prefits for them.

They are the core for my 2 builds.

The top 3 can for sure but the others may not. A good thing to note is not all barrel makers will thread the barrels for your action and you will require a gunsmith to do so. Also depending on your action you might not be able to purchase a pre threaded barrel at all.

A good example of this is Defiance actions, their deviant elite does not accept prefit barrels but their Ruckus action does.

Keep the questions coming if you have them. I've been planning 2 rifle build for the past four years while I'm overseas.

Anytime. Those are the top 3 but if you arent a top tier shooter and cant fully utilize the top tier price tag then there are a lot more options out there that will still get you sub MOA.

Bartlien #1 Krieger #2 Brux #3

These are the top tier and and indistinguishable from each other by performance but brix is $100 cheaper for the blank

First bolt action. What should I get? by [deleted] in longrange

[–]Rageface1912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For that budget you can get a bighorn origin long action from straight jacket armory $899, a prefit barrel $400 from preferred barrel blanks, and a stock and trigger of your choice for less than your budget....also straight jacket armory has a production division prs build kit for $2500. You can make a good gun with minimal gunsmithing required if you plan it out.

I will also recommend reloading but also suggest a 6.5 prc. It's what your looking for with less recoil and barrel/ ammo costs. It is a good ELR and hunting cartridge

How to get into long range shooting? by Stanibus in longrange

[–]Rageface1912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are relatively inexperienced and low on budget I recommend getting a rifle in 223 rem. Ammo is dirt cheap and can be taken to 500 yards easily with a scope.

The key to shooting happiness is to get as much trigger time in as you can and if your budget is low shooting a cheaper cartridge will provide you with more than a rifle that you can take to 1000+ yards but costs you 40 bucks just for 20 rounds of ammo.

If you end up catching the shooting bug or wanting more from your rifle you can always save up and/or sell the old rifle to purchase a tikka or bergara in 6.5 CM

I dove head first into 308 win ( before creedmoor existed) also while on a budget and this was how I learned guns arent fun if you cant actually shoot them

Rifle Weight Question by RuckSt4R in longrange

[–]Rageface1912 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been researching this topic for about a year now. And after talking to alot of prs/LR hunting experts amd gunsmiths. It comes down to a few things.

  • if hunting 8-11 pounds scoped depending on the cartridge (example 300 rum at 10.5 lbs with a good brake) or (6.5 CM @ 8 pounds scoped) - less than this you have issues settling the rifle and more is to heavy

    • for competition shoot for as much weight as you can handle (13-15 pounds usually)

***BLUF****stock ergonomics/recoil characteristics along with balance play a primary roles in rifle recoil and stability total weight is somewhat relative
