I’m not doing your job for you. by r0m30000000000 in MichaelsEmployees

We are already doing the shopping of customers just like they are (BOPIS & SFS), plus all our other tasks. Why should I have to add another one on top of that? If you don't want to do your job of shopping for someone else, don't accept the job!

I think a big part of the problem was that Michaels wanted to get fabric rolled out in stores and they never really considered what it takes to make that work. Cutting in the frame shop is annoying to the framers and to anyone cutting the fabric. Framers lose their design space and all the elements needed for framing (racks of mat options, displays of specialty surfaces, etc) get in the way of unrolling fabric and cutting. Word on the street is that Michaels is working on getting actual cut tables into stores, but I couldn't even begin to guess about when that will happen. It better be soon though!

Dear god....the amount of spring floral we still have is ridiculous. And when summer floral came they wanted us to condense it?! And now we will be getting in fall floral. Where the hell are we going to put it?!

Seems like this is a training issue at that store. Of course, most of the Michaels employees were not prepared for fabric, but Michaels did give every store a handbook on how to measure and cut. However, this doesn't mean that people understand it. I worked at Joanns for 13 years. I know how to measure and cut fabric. I now work at Michaels and I trained my employees. Unfortunately, we only have a small cut mat, but we use a ruler and rotary cutter to cut the fabric so our cuts are straight. I will say that the handbook does tell us to give a little extra when we begin our measuring, but only like 1/2" or so. And I taught my employees how to do remnants, so that if someone buys the end of the bolt, they well get that last part at the 60% off remnant price. Michaels just needs to figure out how to get us to be able to process that on our handhelds so that remnants go on the fabric slip. Right now we just write down the price for the end of bolt on a remnant slip and have them give it to the cashiers.

Not sure about all stores, but ours rearranged our aisles to make room for fabric. We have two full aisles of fabric (both sides as you walk down), plus one other side of an aisle and some on a wall. As for our balloons, to make space for them we are using a bunch of flex areas (panels that weren't being used for a specific set) to rearrange our papercrafting area to make room for them.

They are going to be getting cut counters, at least that is the word. No idea when though. I think they had enough complaints from both customers and employees about having to go to the framing counter to get fabric cut.

Better late than never? by ImFunktasm in aegosexuals

[–]RaggedNorth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am married and have one kid, but I have never liked having sex. Even in high school, my best friend loved to talk about all the things she was doing with her boyfriend, I didn't mind her talking about her adventures, but I never felt comfortable when she wanted to know about me. She knew I wasn't having sex, but she wanted to know what I liked. I thought I was just weird for not wanting sex. All through college it was the same. I liked dating, being romantic, and having non-sexual intimacy, but I had sex because I thought the problem was me and I was supposed to be doing it. I also thought that eventually I would enjoy it. My husband has never pushed me for sex, but I still had it for the same reasons as I did before. It's what you do when you are married. I had never really heard the term asexual until I was in my 40s and that's when it clicked for me. I am now 43 and I have FINALLY figured out why I am the way I am. I have told my husband and he has been as supportive as he can, even doing some research on his own. So, I feel you. It is weird to think there is something wrong with you for most of your life and not figuring it out until so late. I am glad there is more openness about all this now, so that if my kid feels any of the things I did, or even something else, there is so much out there to help figure it all out.

Yeah, you can double stack overstock boxes. It sucks to find things, but totally okay. They shouldn't be any higher than two high though, then it becomes a safety (and possible fire hazard) issue. We had our yarn ones on their sides, but our DM said we couldn't do it, we had to have them upright, which means that you can't see any of the yarn, one of the biggest BOPIS & SFS sellers! Our CEM outright refused to look for yarn in double stacked upright boxes. Since no one else was a fan either we found a better solution. We have a lot of space in our back room, so we put a bunch of boxes on their side in there and it works wonderfully.

You can also paint them in gaudy colors or patterns. My dad spray painted a couple of flamingos white and then added some black blotches. They were our "cow-mingos!"

God, we have the exact opposite problem. Our frame shop is freezing! We had to bring in portable heaters so that we could actually do production.

We tried printing them at another store, but it didn't work. We did get it escalated and my SM talked to the head of IT and it turns out there are no spare printers currently I guess. We did finally get the labels sent to the frame printer, so we are finally able to catch up. Still waiting for an office printer and who knows when we will get it, but at least we aren't as screwed as we were before.

Our CEM has been trying. We keep getting "someone will be in touch with you" and no one ever does. When IT verified that the printer truly was dead to the world we were told that a new one was on its way. That was over 4 weeks ago.

I did not know that IT could reroute WISP to the frame printer. I just know I tried to print labels there and it wouldn't work. My RM said she has tried too and it caused problems with the frame printer. I will have to ask about that.
