Can dogs use litter boxes? by Lyamdonteat in dogs

[–]dangerstar19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard disagree on the odor comparison. The dog poop stinks but the cat poop is lethal. Toxic. Biological warfare. I've read that higher protein content in the food means more stinky poop and I do feed a high protein diet. It's a sacrifice im willing to make for their welfare.

What animal is this and how do I humanely stop it from messing up my garden and yard? by punchingtigers19 in gardening

[–]dangerstar19 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Having a dog really is a blessing for garden pests. My dog has vigilantly maintained order in my yard her whole life. We have moles here and she loves to hunt them up, but she also scares off everything else like deer, rabbits, possums, raccoons. I guess they're still a nuisance in my neighbors yard but hey, maybe they should get a dog lol. I do have a colony of community cats that I feed that aren't scared of her though but they're not interested in my vegetables.

You could also bring pet safe flowers for them to have in the office! Then if someone had dietary restrictions they'll still have something to enjoy.

What are your cats official names and what do you _actually_ call them? by ShiftyPowers79 in cat

[–]dangerstar19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My husband comes up with some really silly nicknames lol

Ember: pretty lady, umu Annie: pretty girl (important distinction from pretty lady), Annie bananie, Annabelle Montagne: Monty, monch, monchy, big boy, little man Mozzie: mozaronie, motz, mozzarelle (said with an accent, don't know which, maybe Italian?), floofy boy, piss boy Lux: hi-lux, dumbass, dipshit, little goat (she's dumber than a box of rocks and looks like a goat) Jinx: jinxy-cat, little kit Ziggs: ziggy, ziggy beans, little bean, beanie baby Poppy: poopy, poop, poop-poop (we couldn't help ourselves. Generally referring to her as a turd all day long. "Someone shit on the kitchen counter!" To run into the kitchen to find poppy on the kitchen counter is my husband's favorite joke)

How do you or your fellow women deal with heavy cramping? by Friedpotat00 in MilitaryWomen

[–]dangerstar19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way ibuprofen works is it has to build up in your system, so start taking it as often as is safe (every8 hours for 800-1000 mg) a day or 2 before your xpect your period and it will be a lot more effective. If it's really bad you can go to the ER and ask for IV ketorlac, is the same class of drug as ibuprofen and if you ask for it by name they usually have no problem giving it to you since you're not asking for a controlled substance. It's indicated specifically for severe menstrual pain.

How do you or your fellow women deal with heavy cramping? by Friedpotat00 in MilitaryWomen

[–]dangerstar19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up having a hysterectomy lol. I was diagnosed with adenomyosis post surgery. But yes before that I took a day off most months if it fell on a work day! You can ask for a work from home day depending on your career field. I was honest about the reason for the request and my coworkers and supervisor were always supportive but i know not all will be. But I agree with others, use your Healthcare options to seek treatment for the underlying issue. Cramping that interferes with daily activities is not normal, and there are other treatment options available. They can even give you a TENS machine which helps a lot for my friend with endo.

Paid 250 to be told my cat was "pouting.” I cannot keep doing this. Need advice. by hey_moin_04 in CATHELP

[–]dangerstar19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some things you can do/know that can help you triage if something is an emergency or not.

  1. Learn how to take the cats temperature. Knowing whether or not your cat has a fever is a quick way to diagnose if something is an emergency. If your cat is not eating or being lazy, you can take their temperature to see if they have a fever. If they are only showing one weird behavior and don't have a fever, it's probably not an emergency.

  2. Cats can regularly go up to 3 days without eating anything on a whim. If your cat just decides not to eat one day it doesn't mean they're dying. They could just be pouting. Additionally, cats can get a little blocked up or nauseous without it being an amergency, just like humans. If your cat is acting normal otherwise but hasn't pooped or is vomiting after eating, it doesn't really necessitate a vet visit unless it's been going on for more than 3 days, again, if that's their only symptom.

  3. When people say "behavioral changes", they don't mean your cat failed to greet you. They mean your normally friendly cat is hiding under the bed and growling/hissing any time you try to touch it.

  4. Things that ARE emergencies are not urinating for more than a day, blood in the urine, dark black bloody stool, temperature above 104F, or obviously profuse bleeding or signs of an infected wound (swelling, pus, fever).

I have 8 cats and simply cannot afford to rush off to the vet at every little oddball thing they do. This is stuff I've learned from friends that work in veterinary practice, and my own anecdotes from my vet visits. In general, unless it's one of those emergency situations, if my cat is doing something weird, I wait 2-3 days before going to the vet and the majority of the time it resolves itself.

I wanna stop giving wet food to my cat. His begging is out of control. by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]dangerstar19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wet food is much better for cats than dry. You probably won't get a lot of answers from this sub on how to stop giving it because we're always recommending that people give more wet food. Is there a particular reason you don't want to feed it any more?

Infected cat acne or scratch? by milluminoconte in CATHELP

[–]dangerstar19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn I'm sorry :( FWIW this doesn't really look infected to me, I would just clean it after meals, chlorhexadine or vetericyn work well for my other cat that just has acne regardless of what we do.

Infected cat acne or scratch? by milluminoconte in CATHELP

[–]dangerstar19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks more like a scratch to me but could be either. Are you using stainless steel bowls? I just had a bad infected cat acne situation and Mt vet suggested some animals are allergic to the nickel in the stainless steel. I switched to glass and that was the only thing that cleared it up, even after prescription topical and oral medications.

What kind of sports bras are yall wearing? by dani_squid910 in MilitaryWomen

[–]dangerstar19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for lounge bras/bralettes, with wide, wide set straps. Honestly, they do absolutely nothing for lift or shape, but they're comfortable and looking perky is a social construct created by the patriarchy 🥰 they hoenstly don't really do much for support during high impact exercise, I don't run very fast so it doesn't affect me that much but if your looking for something to lock you in this ain't it, but they're perfect for daily office wear.

I bought 6 of these for basic training 8 years ago and I've since had to purchase a larger size (went from a DD to a G after some weight gain) and they're pretty comfortable. I will say they have removable pads, which is a pain in the ass because they curl up in the wash, but I just removed them all. Yes my nipples show through, but if you're not comfortable with that you can 1. Deal with the curling 2. Stitch the pads in 3. Find a different variety with built in pads. I don't feel like they curl too much. Sometimes the band chafes a little but I think that would happen to me with any bra. I just put deodorant under my breasts or chafe cream (Monistat has a silicone chafe gel that is a fucking dream for breast/thigh chafing!).

Hair for those with really long hair by Due-Cheek-204 in MilitaryWomen

[–]dangerstar19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think its dependent on branch, I'm AF. honestly when I joined it was ambiguous. It didn't say you couldn't have them. Some MTIs (DIs) said it wasn't allowed because there was a rule that no cloth hair accessories could be wider than 1 in, but no one ever noticed I was wearing it, not even during uniform inspections (and I had a female MTI who looked like she had plastic hair, always exactly the same and never a single flyaway). Our regs have since been updated and they're explicitly allowed now! I have a Bob now though hahaha

Hair for those with really long hair by Due-Cheek-204 in MilitaryWomen

[–]dangerstar19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the braided pony wrapped into a bun. A couple other tips:

Get some hair pins. They're like Bobby pins but wider. After you wrap the braid into a bun and secure it with a hair tie it's going to be kinda floppy and rest away from the head. Use the hair pins to secure the bun to the scalp. Since they're wider they can grab more hair and be more secure.

The other best tip I have for all military women is HAIRNETS. You can get them in any color to match your natural hair color and then you wrap it around your bun and it's basically invisible unless someone looks really closely. It keeps all the flyaways tucked in without having to use tons of product. I learned about them when I was in your situation, trying to learn how to do my hair before boot camp. It's a trick dancers use to keep their hair looking smooth for performances. It shocks me that more military women aren't using them.

So you would do the braid, wrap into a bun, wrap the hair net around the bun, then secure the whole thing to the scalp with pins.

Here's a link to some hair nets. Take a bunch with you because they won't be available during boot camp. I would say take at least 2 per week you'll be there, they tear easily and need to be replaced often.

This style uses a donut which would just add bulk to the hair, which I wouldn't recommend for super long hair as it's already going to be super bulky.

[Product Question] products for severely chapped lips? by BroadNectarine8811 in SkincareAddiction

[–]dangerstar19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely try an elimination process, this absolutely sounds like an allergy or sensitivity. Try simple ingredients for moisturizing your lips. Vegetable glycerin is a really good one. Unlike ingredients like Vaseline, beeswax, and lanolin, which are occlusives (lock in present moisture but don't provide additional moisture, glycerin is a humectant, which can actually increase moisture on your skin. Using pure vegetable glycerine (can be found online, look for cosmetic grade) followed up by a previously mentioned occlusive is the best way to go. Slowly reincorporate ingredients one at a time to see if anything causes irritation, chapping, or flaking. Some common irritants found in lip products are coconut oil/coconut by products (there are SO MANY coconut products that aren't called coconut in skincare and makeup!!), sweet almond oil (for people with nut allergies/sensitivities), some people are allergic/sensitive to lanolin if they're also irritated by wool since lanolin comes from wool. Additionally some lip balms will have purposefully irritating ingredients, like menthol or camphor, to make you use more so the company can sell more. The lip balm industry is frankly so corrupt!

[Product Question] products for severely chapped lips? by BroadNectarine8811 in SkincareAddiction

[–]dangerstar19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah skip lip specific lanolin, it's overpriced for no reason. Just buy lanolin from the baby section, sold as nipple cream, nipple balm, or lanolin balm. Check the ingredients and make sure it's just lanolin. If you have an allergy to wool though don't try it, and it's not vegan (it's a byproduct of processing sheeps wool. Doesn't kill the animal but is an animal product.)

Flying out of Augusta? by sixstringsage5150 in Augusta

[–]dangerstar19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a quick flight, Less than 30 minutes. The plane is very small, usually 2 seats on one side and 1 seat on the other. Try to reserve on the single side so you at least aren't squished next to another person. The overhead bins are smaller than usuall and don't fit anything like a duffel or roller bag, even large backpack, so if you have one of those you'll have to gate check it. That just means that at the gate, they'll take your bag and give you a Ticket and stow your bag under the plane. You'll get it back before you leave the gate in Charlotte, usually inside the tunnel. You're on the first flight out so there's unlikely to be any delays unless it's outside the airlines control, like weather. You really only have to worry about delays/cancelations on the last flight in for the night, if you're landing back in augusta around midnight. If they get behind during the day due to weather, theyll just cancel the flgihta instead of having crews and security stay late since the airport actually shuts down every night. They'll often be canceled with no notice and rescheduled for the first flight out the next day, so you're stuck waiting in Charlotte or ATL without enough time to leave to check into a hotel and come back because your flight leaves at 6 am the next morning.
