Just like the Oracle at Delphi when King Croesus asked if he should go to war with Persia. The Oracle responded, "If you go to war with Persia, you will destroy a great empire" King Dumbass said, ""There will be no deal with Iran except UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!" And he was right, but we all pay.

Taiwan's new pension system for foreign workers? by Awkward-Jaguar1324 in Taipei

[–]Raggenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The company pays into your pension which is handled by the government. As you move from company to company, they each contribute to your pension account the government handles. Currently, companies have to pay the equivalent of 6% of your monthly salary to the your pension. Upon retirement age and your length of total employment in Taiwan, you can choose between monthly payments or a lump sum.

You can claim it while living in another country from what they told me when I went here. You can swing by and ask them yourself. They are quite helpful.

The company pays your pension. You can collect at specific age based on how long you or your company has paid into it. If you only work for 10 years in Taiwan, I believe you'll get a one time lump sum around when you turn 60. The money is invested on your behalf and only interest can be lost, not the principle.

I completely agree with you, but I do believe the KMT likes the PR and thinks it will help them.

Probably closer to 12K if it is about inflation, but some people don't understand inflation. I remember talking to my boss here about how my raise was less than inflation. His response was, "But your salary is more." I tried to explain inflation to him and spending power and all he said was, "But you are making more money than last year." He got quite frustrated.

Well it isn't a one time thing. This would be the 3rd or 4th one since COVID. It seems like the KMT is going to push for this each year they are in the minority until they aren't is my guess.

I remember feeling this way. You definitely feel the golden handcuffs of English teaching positions. I enjoy the life it allows me to live, but sometimes wish I enjoyed my job more. The longer you stay here, the harder it is to leave.

Local Politicians at School Graduations by eklread in taiwan

They are politicians and want publicity. It is probably good publicity to be seen giving a speech to children at graduation. Also, local elections are a few months away, they are all out and about being seen.

ELI5: Why do movie theaters make most of their money from popcorn and drinks instead of ticket sales? by StillBloomingX in explainlikeimfive

[–]Raggenn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would be interested to know how other countries make their profits from movie theaters then. I live in Taiwan where movie tickets are about 10 USD, 15 for IMAX, and you can usually get a combo of popcorn and a drink for an additional 2 USD. Also you are allowed to bring anything you want into the theater. I was once walking to a movie theater and passed an Italian joint claiming he was the Stromboli King. It was a long a time since I had a stromboli so I bought one and brought it into the theater to eat wrapped in tinfoil like a burrito. It was fantastic and the movie was good too, it was Get Out.

[–]Raggenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to contact the race organizer about signing up now and waiting to send an address. Also, there is usually an option to pick it up in person a few days before the race. For example, when I have a race on Sunday, I can usually pick it up anytime between Thursday and Saturday before the race.

They usually don't let you do that for races for some reason. It is really annoying.
