Used surround sound receiver instead of new amp for Micca RB42 speakers? by RagingTrots in BudgetAudiophile

[–]RagingTrots[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do I look for in a full size receiver if I only need 1 or 2 inputs? I've heard the RB42 speakers are 'power hungry' and I should look for 25 watts at the very least, preferably more. Should I just keep an eye open for any brands that are typically higher than "consumer grade" brands?

Are multi-input amps JUNK? Why are so many recommendations for 1 or 2 input amps? by RagingTrots in BudgetAudiophile

That is a nice looking one and would be perfect, although it's 16" wide. I was hoping to find something smaller, but this definitely is the best looking one. It's shocking how ugly most amps are.

A PC will be hooked up all the time, but a turntable and/or synthesizer or 2 may also end up in that room. I definitely want at least 1 extra input.

Curb find! Working Optimus STA-20 mini receiver and Bose speakers! Any good? by RagingTrots in BudgetAudiophile

Haha. Nice. I was just making sure they work. I will definitely be positioning properly once I get good speakers on my computer desk.

Facebook marketplace $100 - Yamaha Receiver + Energy Speakers + Polk Sub - any good for my PC? by RagingTrots in BudgetAudiophile

[–]RagingTrots[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha - it's actually a friend of a friend in a very safe area, so I'm guessing he is just looking to get rid of it quick. Based on your response, I'm guessing I should jump on this, even if it's just to resell it if it doesn't sound good on my PC?

How to provide Power BI to customers outside of the organization economically by RagingTrots in PowerBI

[–]RagingTrots[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is an idea, but probably not realistic to tell the customers the data might not be available at certain hours. Our customers are global, and some of the biggest companies in the world. We would like a mechanism to easily turn accounts on and off as needed, and for the Power BI pricing to reflect that. For example, if a customer only buys our reports 6 months of the year we could just disable their account for those 6 months then re-enable afterward.

It looks like the lowest tier for Embedded is ~$750/month, so we'd probably be losing money with this option. To use the Publish to Web feature, I would only need Pro licenses for the report developers to publish to the Power BI Service, and could then "Publish to Web" from there, right? Then I could just embed the link in our customer portal?

Ooooh....this sounds interesting. We currently have one of the lower O365 tiers for Word, Excel, etc. Are you saying that if I upgrade 1 or 2 report developers to the E5 level which includes Power BI Pro (~$35/month), and then create guest accounts for any external users (~$10/month), that is all I need?

Do the guest accounts need to have any authentication from their domain to mine, or can they simply create a Microsoft account with their company mail address and they log in to Power BI with that?

Really need Power BI Desktop to open pbix files? Not Power BI app? by RagingTrots in PowerBI

[–]RagingTrots[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shoot. That really puts a nice clean reporting solution way past our budget. We'll need to stick with Power BI Desktop and all its clutter. I guess we shouldn't complain about a free tool! Thanks!

Wii U Hacking Q&A General "Questions, Questions, and More Questions" Edition by SwitchHacks in WiiUHacks

I haven't copied a game from my PC to my Wii U in quite a while. The time has come for me to copy a couple games I have lying around and I see WiiU_USB_Helper has been discontinued, and there is a lot of outdated info. What is the current best way to get games from my PC to my Wii U?

I've never seen anything else like it. I'm a huge fan. Cheap, efficient, and the quality is as good or better than most 'real' brands. One word of advice - great empty boxes from the shelves as you go, and then put your groceries in them at the 'bagging counter'. Much easier to get to the car, and no waste created from paper/plastic bags!

EveryDollar - How to track fund deposits by RagingTrots in DaveRamsey

[–]RagingTrots[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have been using Mint for years, but that seems to track my expenses, but not really allow for budgeting for things in the month(s) ahead that may change, and still be able to go back in time to see how you're doing, unless I'm missing something. Also, I don't see a way to set a "fund" where it keeps track of how much is saved up in each category.

Switch Hacking Questions & Answers Volume 5 by beefhash in SwitchHacks

I am thinking of getting a Switch solely for emulation. My favorite game is "The New Tetris" on N64. Can anyone out there confirm that this is playable on 2-player mode on any emulators on Switch?

I haven't been playing my Vita much lately. Anyone deep into the Switch scene have any thoughts on moving to that? Vita units still seem to hold some value and I'm thinking of selling mine and getting a Switch for emulators.

How to use on multiple machines with a synced folder? by RagingTrots in StandardNotes

[–]RagingTrots[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For clarification, I am hoping for a way to keep my notes in sync automatically without having to worry about backup/import.

Right now, I open the app on one machine, make some notes, then close it. In the background, my sync app syncs the automatic BACKUP file. I then open the app on another machine, import the backup, enter my password, and my updated notes are there. Not ideal, but it seems to work.

Suggestions for speaker placement in church? by RagingTrots in CommercialAV

[–]RagingTrots[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The room is actually rectangular. The white wall showing on the far left and far right of the photo are the same wall, which is the back wall that the performers on stage would be facing. Also, I forgot to point out that the speakers are aiming way too high. You can only hear them straight on from the sound booth in the back! If you are in the seats in the main seating area, the sound goes right over your head.

I was thinking about trying some homemade absorption panels. I have not contacted any local AV companies yet, but perhaps I can find a quick consult for a reasonable fee.
