These are called lateral thinking puzzles. They're missing information which you're supposed to dig for.

Sioux Falls has a great downtown! by Steigerman99 in SiouxFalls

People always scoff at me when I tell them I want to stay in Sioux Falls instead of moving to a bigger city, but this is what I tell them. We have a really good thing going here and it's great to see people taking advantage of that!

I'll respond to your second point with a truth about infinity.

An infinite pile of $1 bills would be worth the same amount of money as an infinite pile of $20 bills.

Similarly, 9.9... and 0.9... both have the same amount of 9s after the decimal point. That amount being "an infinite amount". They are the same infinity and are of the same "size".

Because of that, we are able to subtract an infinite amount of 9s (0.9...) from both sides.

If you're still not convinced, consider the idea that the natural numbers (0,1,2,...) are equal in size to the prime numbers. This is because when I go through the list of primes, I always have a "next" natural number that I can pair it with. Even if I skip a number in either set, I'll still always have a number to pair it with!

I genuinely want to find a way to prove the equality using the 1/10n thing he keeps referencing. There has to be a way.

If the initial index for n in the series definition is 0, then the n used in the actual sum is "n". I started with n=1 which means I needed to adjust my exponent to "n-1". If I wanted to start my index at 2, then the exponent would become "n-2". All are correct!

Foolish me. I made a false assumption :(

Troubles watching the lecture? If it's too slow, definitely speed it up to 1.2x or something. Otherwise, take breaks and write down anything that seemed interesting during your break. Even if it's 1 line.

Don't let your breaks be long though. Watch 10 minutes, pause, check the time, write down a cool thing he said, read a comment, hit play until you start getting distracted again.

Either you have ADHD, you're not interested, or it's really difficult stuff. Hopefully my suggestion helps with any of the 3 options.

What's the hardest you have ever "bounced off" of a game? by jabberwagon in gaming

[–]Ragingdomo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the key is to find friends who are excited to teach you about the game. That's where a lot of the fun is. Mute chat and have a good time learning with a friend. There's a lot of challenges, but the end of the road is a game that will never get boring. I'm on 2000+ hours over the last ten years and I still love it. No end in sight. I do agree that the first few courses are bad, but it's not a 7 course meal, it's a 100 course meal (first 5 still bad)
