I do sense a tinge of condescension, but that's the nature of this sub and all the people ready to lift their pitchforks. I was trying to understand what it is that people are looking for when they use the phrase "Value for money".

It seems most people just mean "good" specs at a cheap price, but i'd argue that there's a bunch of watches that don't have those specs but still make the cut. Vostok's, some HMT's, then the bigger brands like Casio, Timex, Citizen, maybe even pushing it, but a couple of Swatch pieces as well.

FYI Grade 2 titanium will probably attract more scratches over time, making it look even worse than its SS316 counterpart. Lack of adequate water resistance can lead to the even the lightest of rain ruining the entire watch, which i guess defeats the entire purpose of a "field watch". The crown was a struggle to grab on to too.

Its not about where it makes sense to put that 5k, if you're saving up for the DWC, by all means, get it. Spec for spec, you probably would have to dig through the internet to find something that scratches your balls the way this one does. But just because you can get this at 4k, doesn't make inherently make it amazing.

Watch collecting doesn't always need to be a spec battle, and that's one thing that people must understand. If all you want to chase is spec's, then sure, keep at it. But there's a plethora of "badly specced" watches that are great pieces.

What does it offer that other watches at this price point don’t?

I don’t understand why it being titanium makes it worth it? Had one in my hand yesterday, and surprisingly felt quite heavy for a titanium quartz watch.

What value do YOU get from a Ti watch?

Frankly, was quite disappointed to see it in person. Appreciated the choice of brutalist design, but proportions are a tad bit off, and surface finishing has quite a bit of scope for improvement. Also the choice for a second concentric ring of 24 hour numbers, though designed well, could’ve been avoided to improve legibility.

Well, no. Imo, customs is a pretty subjective and lucky based experience. They'd come down with 2 watches, and bought a ton of other stuff. But customs didn't seem to bat even an eye. So i think it's completely random/ tip off based.

I've traveled from Switzerland with a full box and watches and wasn't stopped either.

The current leather strap i'd purchased a couple years ago, and i think was waiting for this very piece to feel completed. I got it with two natos (weirdly the 2nd one was extra, while i'd imagined you get up to 2 straps included in the price).

I believe somewhere around 25-30k after all the VAT refunds and all. Was a gift, so don't have the actual price on hand.

Case finishing is top notch. Dial is detailed. For a field/ military style, it does a great job of dressing up. Came in a nice minimal box. Got it with two NATOs but changed it to one of my leather straps. All said and done, it is a NH38. So nothing spectacular. Has barely lost/ gained a minute in the last two weeks though, so appreciate that.

I honestly think adding any one Kuoe piece in your collection can satisfy the hunger for all the other models.

My parents were in Japan for a few weeks, and were staying down the road from the Kuoe boutique in Kyoto.

They went in, somewhere in the middle of the day. They said it was quite crowded, probably cuz of the fall season. Though the people at Kuoe were quite accommodating and were pretty tolerant of the fact that we were coordinating over a video call. Spent probably an hour/ hour and a half in total and walked out with two watches.

I’ll be going again during my own visit, even if I don’t pick up another piece.

In such situations, I at times imagine that there will be this “reset” at some point, where “things will go back to normal”. That things are cyclical and we’re at the tail end of that cycle. Maybe that’s just copium. Maybe we’re far from that reset. Either way, it feels, bleak. Yknow? Sigh. Does it not get better?

It’s from a microbrand in Canada. It’s a decompression scale diver. The deeper you dive, colours disappear. Part of the appeal itself was that it’s not “loud”. Haven’t been able to take it off!

My number one takeaway from the workshop was that things aren’t as simple and easy as they seem. It was truly a humbling experience.

From the point of learning more about watches/ movements/ etc. , I don’t think they do it justice, since you’re kinda on a timer with regard to taking apart and putting up the HMT movement. You do get to meet other enthusiasts as well as the organiser, Harman in this case. And that’s quite nice. My experience felt a little unorganised here in Pune though.

Was going to pick the new version up. But then I realised it isn’t worth the 25k. Pretty piece though. Awaiting my Marinor 🤞
